The Charming Ex–Wife
Chapter 499 I Rejected Him
During the evening, there were hardly any people in the garden. Such a situation couldn’t simply be explained away as a mere coincidence.
Amelia blinked, twirling a strand of hair, she said, “You’re Lysander, right? Don’t get me wrong. I’m not referring to the one who’s still hung up on Mr. Guerra.”
It seemed she knew quite a bit about Josiah.
Lysander admitted. “Did you need something from me?”
“It wasn’t anything significant. I just didn’t expect to run into you here, so I couldn’t help but take a few extra glances.” Amelia spoke with a laugh in her voice, her tone surprisingly not off–putting
“What are you looking at me for?”
Amelia tilted her head and let out a chuckle, abruptly changing the subject. “Ms. Thorne, your outfit is quite stunning,” she praised. “Would you mind telling me where you got it? I’d love to try something
similar.
“So, you’ve followed me all this time just to ask about my clothes?” Lysander naturally didn’t believe it and stated bluntly, “What I’m wearing might not exactly match your style.”
Amelia’s attire was incredibly bold, her makeup even more so, favoring the fiery red lip look of a dominant woman. To her, Lysander’s dress was so plain it bordered on boring. Yet, Amelia sincerely said, “No, I really like it.
“Is that so?” Lysander asked.
With a sly smile, Amelia said, “Because this outfit was personally selected for you by Mr. Guerra.”
Recently, Lysander had been dealing with one complex situation after another. She really didn’t have the extra energy to decipher the hidden meanings in Amelia’s words. She went straight to the greenhouse, found a rocking chair, sat down, and asked, “You have something to say, just spit it out. We met at the karaoke lounge last time. Your name is Amelia Scott, right?”
The name was something Tiffany had told her, and Lysander could only hope she hadn’t misremembered
it.
“Indeed, my name is Amelia Scott. I didn’t expect that our brief encounter last time would leave such an impression on you, Ms. Thorne. I suppose it’s probably because Mr. Guerra was there at the time too,” Amelia said, taking the opportunity to sit down across from Lysander.
The atmosphere within the greenhouse was serene and tranquil, making it an ideal spot for conversations.
With a smile, Lysander remained silent, her gaze filled with caution.
There were more women around Josiah than she had anticipated, but she was oblivious to this fact. Amelia was also at the resort hotel that day. Did Josiah know about this?
Seeing that she had no intention of speaking further, Amelia took the initiative and began, “If we’re being exact, our first meeting was actually at the karaoke lounge. However, the circumstances then weren’t quite ideal. Perhaps, it’s best if we forget about that. Let’s just pretend that today is the first time we’ve met, shall

Lysander preferred to skip these unnecessary pleasantries. “We didn’t have much to do with each other in the past, and I doubt we will in the future. There really is no need for us to get acquainted.”
“Who said there wasn’t? Don’t we both know Mr. Guerra?”
Lysander patiently explained to her, “I’m not sure what you know, or if you’re here today to test me or to directly ask me to stay away from Josiah. But I’ll say this, I’m the one who rejected him. Whoever wants
him can have him.”
Amelia studied her intently, her gaze filled with complex emotions as she said, “Ms. Thorne, you truly are nothing like those naive and simple–minded girls out there. One is foolish, the other is clueless, so no wonder they couldn’t catch Mr. Guerra’s attention.”
Amelia was undoubtedly referring to Lysanne and Tiffany.
Lysander suspected that if she wasn’t in front of him at this moment, she would probably be making up nicknames. She then said indifferently. “That’s their business. You didn’t need to come and tell me. Or is it that you have other plans?
“Of course.” Amelia was a straightforward person. She gave a charming smile and said, “The first time I saw you at Skywatch. I knew you were the real deal. Men, oh, they’re so childish. They think that by being close to me in front of you, they can provoke you. I told him then, this method varies from person to person, it might just end up pushing the lady further away!
Lysander couldn’t help but recall that Josiah had mentioned it once before.
Amelia had told him before that gentleness was of no use.
“Are you his… close confidante?”
Immediately, Amelia shook her head and waved her hands, expressing strong denial. “You’ve got it wrong. I’m not like them. At most, you could say that Mr. Guerra has helped me out before, so I regard him with admiration and gratitude, just like any ordinary person would.”
Lysander studied her. She reckoned that Amelia was telling the truth and asked, “Did he help you?
With a smile playing on her lips, Amelia coyly countered. “Do you know where I work? Skywatch. As for what this place is all about, I’m sure I don’t need to spell it out for you, M
Thorne, do you look down on
me?”
“No.” Lysander gently shook her head, her stance clear. “Without experiencing someone’s hardships, you can’t persuade them to be good. You have your own way of life, and it’s not my place as an outsider to interfere.”
Amelia gave a nonchalant laugh. “Ms. Thorne, even if you’re just saying these things to appease me, I don’t mind. After all, they are rather contforting to hear. But I’m well aware, you intellectuals, deep down, look down upon us women who make a living through our physical appeal.”
“As long as no harm is done, everyone has their own way of living.”
“Tsk, tsk.” Amelia pulled out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter from her pocket. “Do you mind if I smoke?”
“This is outdoors. Feel free to do as you wish.”
Amelia skillfully lit a cigarette, took a drag, and exhated a plume of white smoke.

Chapter 499 | Rejected Him
“When I was young and naive, I once got married. Looking back now, I must have been out of my mind. That man had nothing. He was just good at sweet talking and making empty promises. Yet, I fell for it all, even when his true nature as a compulsive gambler was revealed, I still believed that he would change.
Amelia spoke about her past experiences with a sense of detachment, as if they were from another lifetime. She commented, “If I ever met the person I was back then, I’d be tempted to slap myself.” She suddenly flashed a faint smile, turning to look at the composed Lysander. “You really don’t care about my relationship with Mr. Guerra? You didn’t even ask anything.
“If you want to talk, you’ll talk. No one can force you if you don’t want to. And frankly, I’m not that interested.”
Amelia scoffed. “If you’re not interested, why are you still sitting here listening to my tales of the past?”
“I was just feeling stifled sitting alone in my room, so I decided to step out for a walk. It’s fine whether I listen or not.”
As Amelia reached this point in her discourse, she couldn’t help but click her tongue twice. “You’re rather
heartless.”
Lysander furrowed her brows, looking at her.
Amelia continued. “In a relationship, the one with a tougher heart tends to get hurt less. You’re doing the right thing. What’s the worth of a man? A woman should always love herself the most.
