Chapter 155 You Are Quite The Gossip
Lysander comforted, “No, Dad, I wasn’t driven out by the Guerra family. I chose to move out on my own.”
“Of course, you had to move out. The homewrecker has already moved in, pregnant and all. Are you going to stay and help her through her postnatal recovery?”
Lysander was left speechless.
Maverick was still irate. “I can’t believe you just moved out so obediently when they took advantage of you. Although the Thorne family may not be prestigious, we’re not afraid of the Guerra family!”
“Dad. I retorted.”
“You call that a retort? You didn’t even utter a harsh word, and you were so polite about it. Well, the Guerra family deserved to be publicly humiliated and made a laughingstock for everyone to see!”
Lysander chuckled sofily.
“Why are you laughing? You’re still in the mood to laugh?”
“Dad, I was talking about Josiah. I cursed at him.”
“What did you say to him?”
“I berated him for being blind to the truth, for getting what he deserved, and for being cheated on.”
Upon hearing this, Maverick finally felt a bit relieved. “That’s more like it. Lysa, don’t hold yourself back. If you need to vent, then do so. No matter what happens, I’m here for you.”
A pang of sorrow swept over Lysander, and she nodded heavily. “Mhm.”
“All right,” Maverick said, gently patting her hair, “let’s not talk about this anymore. Since you two are divorced now, you should return to your normal life. Don’t rush into buying a house. It’s not a small matter. Your mom and I will discuss it further.”
“About what?”
“The day I found out about your divorce, I discussed it with your mom. We decided to sell this house and combine it with our savings over the years to help you with a down payment…
Upon hearing this, Lysander immediately dismissed the idea. “If we sell the house, where are you and Mom going to live?”
“Don’t get so worked up. Sit down and listen to what I have to say,” Maverick said, guiding her back to her seat. “Although we fall under the jurisdiction of Harborbrook, we are quite a distance away from the city center. You, being a young woman living alone there, might face difficulties that your mom and I wouldn’t be aware of. Like this time when you got divorced, you didn’t even have a place to come home to and cry. So, your mom and I have decided to move to Harborbrook. We’ll find jobs that provide room and board, so we can be closer to you and take care of you.”
Lysander’s nose stung. “In that case, let’s buy a house under your name and Mom’s. I’ve managed to save some money over the years. We can buy a bigger one and live together.”
“Silly girl.” Maverick said affectionately, “your mother and I want to buy you a house before you get married. Look, you have a respectable job and soon, a house of your own. If you work a bit harder, you can even buy a car for commuting. No matter the financial status of your future partner, our family won’t be looked down. upon!”
Lysander understood clearly.

Maverick still believed that her divorce from Josiah was due to their family’s poor conditions and the vast disparity between them and the Guerra family.
He was heartbroken for her and wanted to provide some financial support, hoping that she would never have to feel inferior in her future relationships because of money issues.
“What about Michelle? If you give me all your savings, what will you do when it’s time for her to get married?”
“We’ll just work harder. Your mom and I are still young. Your mom has done her research, you know. These days, being a midwife in the big city pays quite well. It includes meals and accommodation, and we’re talking over ten thousand a month! As for me, I could start delivering food. I hear there’s a high demand in the city, especially among the younger crowd. If I take on a few more orders each day, I could earn a bit more… and maybe even set something aside for Michelle… Why are you crying, silly girl?”
Lysander didn’t know why she was crying as well.
The tears couldn’t help but flow.
“Dad, I’m sorry.”
“What nonsense are you talking about? You’ve already made the Thorne family so proud. Ask anyone in this surrounding area. Who doesn’t know that the eldest daughter of the Thorne family is the most successful?”
“But
you still have to endure hardships at your age.”
“You silly child,” Maverick said, a mix of amusement and frustration in his voice as he used his rough hand to wipe away her tears, “all parents feel the same about their children. It doesn’t matter if we don’t have much as long as our children can live comfortably.”
Lysander sniffled. “We’ll talk about buying a house later, Dad. For now, don’t rush to sell this place. I need to think it over.”
“All right, let’s not rush. We’ll discuss everything once Michelle’s college entrance exams are over.”
“Okay.”
“Feeling any better?”
Lysander managed to turn her tears into laughter. “Yeah, being with my family made me feel much better.”
“Then stop crying if you feel much better now.”
“All right.”
Maverick sighed. “There’s nothing to be upset about if we’re not right for them.”
“Mhm, I’ve pretty much gotten over it already.”
“Really? Well then, let me ask you something.”
“Go ahead.”
“Josiah knows that the girl is carrying the child of a dark–skinned man, right? How are they doing now?”
Lysander wiped away a tear, let out a sigh, and chuckled, “Dad, you’re quite a gossip.”
