Chapter 131 Does Not See Your Worth
Josiah drove Lysander all the way to the military hospital in East Harborbrook.
Before even stepping into the ward, Lysander heard the voice of her former mother–in–law, Susan. “Mom, Josiah has already gone to pick Lysander up. Don’t worry.”
“Who are you?”
“I’m your daughter–in–law, Susan. Why don’t you not recognize me again, Mom?”
“Susan?”
“Yes. I’m Susan.”
“Josiah is five this year, right? I saved some cloud cake fr
him. Bring him home and let him have it, Susan.”

Susan’s voice was choked with tears. “Okay, sure. Josiah will be here so

Josiah pushed open the door and stepped in, greeting, “Grandma.”
Susan immediately rose to her feet and pulled him to Elisa’s hospital bed. “Mom, look, Josiah is here.”
Still, Elisa didn’t recognize him. “Who are you?”
“Grandma, it’s me, Josiah.”
“No, you’re not. Josiah is only five years old, and he has gone missing.”
Josiah crouched down by the hospital bed, grasping Elisa’s weathered hand. He said gently, “Grandma, I’m not missing. Lysander helped me find my way home, and I’m back.”
“Lysander?” Elisa perked up instantly. “Lysander is here? Where is she?”
Seeing that, Susan turned to look at Lysander, her expression pleading. “Lysander, I’m sorry to have troubled you in making a trip over.”
Lysander found it distressing to see Elisa in her current condition.
The latter wore an oxygen mask, her breaths coming in labored gasps. The hospital bed was surrounded by machines, some administering medication, others monitoring her vitals.
All signs indicated that Elisa was in really bad shape.
Susan’s eyes were rimmed with red from crying. “This morning, we almost… Fortunately, the doctor discovered her in time and managed to save her. But she likely only has a few days left.”
A stab of pain struck Lysander. She grasped Susan’s hands. “Grandma Elisa is a blessed woman. She’ll be fine.”
“Sweetheart, I know you mean well, but the truth is, her condition is quite critical. The doctor said it’s best to fulfill her wishes as soon as possible these few days so we won’t have any regrets later.”
Lysander gave a slight nod hesitantly.

“I know that you no longer have any ties with the Guerra family since you’ve divorced. We really shouldn’t trouble you either. However, your Grandma Elisa kept asking to see you, and it’s her last wish.”
“I understand, Madam Susan. I’ll go and see Elisa.”
Susan hastily nodded. “Okay, sure. Please talk with her a bit more.”
Josiah stood up, vacating the only spot left by the hospital bed.
Lysander slowly made her way over and crouched beside the hospital bed. “Grandma Elisa, I’m-”
“Lysander, you’re here!”
Elisa was beside herself with excitement. Despite having a needle in her hand, she clutched Lysander’s arm. Her grip was rather forceful, assailing the latter with pain.
Nonetheless, Lysander didn’t utter a word, simply allowing Elisa to hold onto her.
She understood that the elderly sometimes lacked a sense of measure in the force they exerted.
“Yes, Grandma Elisa, I’m Lysander. I’ve come to see you.”
“Good, good. You’re such a good child.” Elisa suddenly sobbed, bursting into tears in an instant. “Are you divorced from Josiah, sweetheart?”
Taken aback, Lysander turned to look at Josiah.
Josiah was also shocked. He turned his gaze to Susan.
Meanwhile, Susan was flustered. “I didn’t say anything. I didn’t even mention a word about it.”
Elisa continued, “Josiah just doesn’t see your worth. He would rather fancy a heartless woman than appreciate you. Sweetheart, did it hurt during the surgery?”
