Chapter 1339
The little tykes were using Astrid as a maypole dancing around her in the open field, their joyful giggles and laughter echoing around.
Thalassa’s heart, which had been strung tight with worry, finally settled.
Thank goodness, the children were still here.
She had been struck by panic when she couldn’t find them in their rooms earlier – her heart had nearly leapt from her chest.
Especially after Lysander’s uninvited visit last night, she feared he might have snatched the children away too.
“Mommy, you’re up!” Sophia stood in the vegetable patch, clutching two heads of lettuce
in her little hands.
Her big round eyes sparkled with delight upon seeing Thalassa, and she announced her happiness with glee.
At her words, the other three munchkins looked up too, casting their tender, trusting gazes
toward Thalassa.
Four pairs of eyes were filled with love and reliance, shining even brighter than the
morning sun.
“Yep, I’m coming! I’ll help you all pick some veggies,” Thalassa said, coming out of her daze and moving towards them.
“Thalassa, come and take the kids back to wash up. We’ve nearly got enough for a meal. I’ll start cooking, and we’ll be ready to eat in no time,” Astrid called out, swinging open the garden gate, herding the kids out.
“Mommy, look at the potatoes I helped Astrid dig up! Aren’t they huge?” Elowen trotted over, her pigtails bouncing, and presented two big potatoes in her small hands to Thalassa,
“Wow, Elowen, you’re digging up potatoes now? That’s amazing. Do you like eating potatoes, too?” Thalassa gently wiped a smudge of dirt from Elowen’s cheek with her thumb.
“Yes, I love them! Potatoes are the best. You can make fries, chips, braised potatoes, steamed potatoes, baked potatoes, mashed potatoes… so many yummy dishes!”
Food was Elowen’s forte. If she had tasted something once, she knew exactly what went into making it. And now, she tilted her head with utmost seriousness as she spoke about her favorite food.
“How about we ask Astrid to make some potato chips for you later?” Thalassa offered

tenderly.
Having the children by her side was a comforting balm to the ache of losing her own mother.
“Yeah!” Elowen nodded excitedly.
In no time, Astrid and Thalassa had whipped up breakfast, and the family sat down to eat in the living room.
That’s when an uninvited guest arrived.
Arms crossed and a smirk playing on her lips, Isabella said, “Having breakfast, I see. You were crying your eyes out yesterday, and now you’re all cozy and happy. It seems Evelyn was expendable for you, after all.”
Isabella’s words were a dagger to Thalassa’s heart. Her hand froze in place, and she looked up at Isabella with a furrowed brow, her voice heavy with suppressed rage, “You should’ve drowned in that pond when you had the car crash. If you can’t say anything nice, then just shut up!”
Her mother had passed away, leaving the entire family in excruciating pain.
Did their grief mean they were not allowed a semblance of normal life anymore?
Were they expected to wallow in despair, unable to eat, and follow Evelyn to the grave?
Isabella’s tongue was as sharp as ever, spewing whatever she pleased without a care for others’ feelings.
“Thalassa, don’t spout on me. You’ll get what’s coming to you sooner or later!” Isabella
huffed and stormed off.
Isabella had once found herself in a burning car with Leopold. She had jumped into a pond to escape the explosion, flailing and crying for help while Leopold utterly ignored
her.
In the end, she had dragged herself ashore, but the memory had left a raw wound in her heart. Leopold had preferred to see her die rather than show her a shred of pity. On that account, she had been utterly defeated by Leopold.
Meanwhile, a sleek black Rolls-Royce rolled in at the edge of the village. Behind the wheel was Lysander, and his destination was none other than Thalassa’s home.
