Chapter 72
He pretended to be wary. “My teacher said it’s impolite to ask about other people’s family situations, Mrs. Lane.”

Shannon choked up, realizing that she had indeed asked too many questions. However, she also noticed that the child in front of her was clever. At such a young age, he knew that he had to be wary
of strangers.
“I’m sorry. I was in the wrong.” Shannon raised her hand to pat Zachary on the head, but he avoided her. Her hand froze in mid–air.
Malcolm was surprised that his great–aunt, who usually didn’t pay much attention to him, was so fond of Zachary. He felt a little unhappy.
“Grandma Shannon, I still have to show Zac around the mansion. Please excuse us.”
Shannon couldn’t stop them. “Alright. You two have fun. If you need anything, come find me.”
After the boys left, she was still determined to find out more about Zachary. So, she called her secretary over. “Look into this child’s background, especially his parents.”
“Understood.”
The little boy looked exactly like Xavier when he was younger. If Xavier had a son, he’d definitely look just like Zachary.
“By the way, is Xavier here yet?”
Her secretary glanced at the clock. “There’s still an hour until the banquet starts. Mr. Lane should still be on his way.”
Shannon nodded. When her son arrived, she would definitely remind him to pay closer attention to the young ladies at the banquet. It was high time he found a woman and gave her a grandchild.
Meanwhile, Yvette and Kiki were shopping for gowns for the banquet. Since neither of them wanted to stand out, they opted for some ordinary and simple gowns.
However, the simpler and more ordinary the gown was, the more it set off Yvette’s beauty.
Kiki was amazed. “Woah, you look gorgeous! Most people rely on their clothes to look good, but you’re definitely the opposite.”
After hearing that, Yvette smiled, and it made her look even more radiant.
In truth, Kiki was good–looking as well. She was the kind who grew on people. She wasn’t as stunning as Yvette, but she became more appealing the more one looked at her.
The girls walked out together, and the driver found them pleasing to the eye as he drove them to Lane Mansion.
Yvette remembered that the last time she had been here was half a decade ago. “Time flies,” she

thought to herself,
Outside Lane Mansion, a stream of luxury cars arrived one after another. It was Clifford’s birthday, so all the prominent figures in Tirion were here, along with their children.
Kiki’s father, Michael, had been waiting outside since early in the mothing. This time, he was going to keep an eye on Kiki and make sure she landed a wealthy suitor.
As soon as she noticed him, Kiki felt her head throb. “Yvvy, it looks like you’ll have to go find Xaiver on your own later. I need to deal with my dad first.”
Yvette nodded. “Alright.”
Kiki got out of the car first and walked toward Michael. “Dad”
“Do you know what time it is? The girls from the Lopez and Wattson families have arrived early in the morning and have tried to win Mrs. Lane over…” Michael started nagging the moment he saw her.
Kiki could only respond perfunctorily.
Sitting in the car, Yvette watched the father–daughter duo with genuine envy. If her father were still alive, she too would be walking arm–in–arm with him that day.
However, she didn’t dwell on her thoughts for too long. She asked the driver to stop in a less crowded area and got out.
Yvette glanced at her wristwatch. There were only six minutes before the banquet commenced. Xavier was always punctual.
She went to the path Xavier would take to head toward the banquet area. As expected, it wasn’t long before a Bentley drove past her. Xavier was in the backseat, busy with work.
“Isn’t that Ms. Snyder?” his driver asked.
