These words suddenly snapped Andy out of his trance. He punched the glass in frustration.
Yvette shrank back in fear but tried to stay calm. “If you don’t believe me, call her and tell her I’m dead.”
Without thinking much, Andy picked up his phone and dialed Daphne’s number. To his frustration, he couldn’t get through to her.
Daphne had blocked Andy.
“It looks like she’s afraid she’ll be suspected if she has anything to do with you.
“Get me and the driver out now, and I won’t press charges. At most, it will be considered an accident due to a driving mistake. We’re unharmed, and you won’t face criminal charges.”
Andy’s mind was in chaos. He wasn’t sure whether to believe Yvette or not.
Meanwhile, Yvette was barely holding on. Her voice was growing weaker.
It suddenly grew noisy around them. Andy then saw something that made him dash right out of there.
As Yvette’s vision blurred, she vaguely saw a tall figure approaching her.
She couldn’t clearly see who the man was before she passed out. All she could feel was the man’s broad, warm shoulders.
Xavier’s tall and slender figure stood on the balcony of a hospital room. He lit a cigarette, revealing his slender fingers, marked with cuts.
Just as he was about to take a puff, he glanced back at Yvette, who was lying on the hospital bed, and extinguished the cigarette.
She hadn’t even been back for long, but she had already been hospitalized five times.
His phone started to ring. He answered it, only to find that it was a call from Mark. “Mr. Lane, Mr. Lander’s men have caught the driver responsible for the accident.”
Xavier’s expression turned cold. “Got it.
“You can go ahead and get rid of Yvette’s bodyguard as well,” he added before hanging up.
Before Yvette had gotten into an accident that day, Xavier had returned to Dewberry Manor and found that she hadn’t been there.
He had contacted the bodyguards who had been following her, only to get a delayed response that she had been in a car accident.
When Xavier had arrived at the scene, he had seen Yvette covered in blood. At that moment, he had felt as if his heart had stopped.
Fortunately, her injuries were only skin–deep. She had fainted from blood loss but wasn’t seriously hurt.
After he had pulled Yvette out of the wrecked car, he had been about to take her away when Claude had arrived. Xavier didn’t know how Claude had found out about Yvette’s accident.

But when they reached the hospital and Yvette was taken to the emergency room, he had discovered the emergency device in her hearing aid.
It turned out that Claude was the first person Yvette had contacted when she had gotten into an accident.
Yvette slept restlessly on the hospital bed. Her entire body was in pain.
She dreamed of James, who had passed away years ago. In her dream, he gently patted her shoulder, saying, “Yvvy, you’ve suffered so much…”
But this moment of warmth didn’t last long. James suddenly turned into a star and disappeared before her eyes.
“Dad…” she murmured in her sleep.
Xavier thought she was awake and walked closer. The next second, Yvette groped around and grabbed
his hand.

“Dad… Don’t go… Don’t leave me alone…” Tears slid from Yvette’s eyes, disappearing as they soaked the pillow.
Xavier was filled with mixed emotions as Yvette held his hand tightly.
Not wanting to wake her, he didn’t pull his hand away. He just stood by her side as time passed by without him realizing it.
Holding his hand seemed to bring Yvette peace. Finally, she fell sound asleep.
When Yvette woke up, it was early morning, and Xavier was no longer there. She noticed a suit jacket covering her on top of the white blanket.
She was tightly gripping the sleeve of the jacket.
