Chapter 160
Claude noticed Yvette behind Xavier immediately and gave her a reassuring look before turning his attention to Xavier and extending his hand.

“Nice to meet you, Mr. Lane.”
Contrary to the expected tension, the interaction between the two men was unusually gentlemanly.
Xavier shook Claude’s hand. He then looked at Yvette and introduced her. “This is my wife, Yvette.”
As he asserted his claim, Xavier grabbed Yvette by the waist.
Yvette tried to pull his hand away, but Xavier tightened his grip, refusing to let go even when her nails dug into his hand and drew blood.
His expression remained composed.
Claude silently observed everything without showing any reaction. “There’s no need for an introduction,” he said. “Yvvy and I grew up together. I know her better than you, Mr. Lane.”
Yvvy.
He called her so affectionately. And he also claimed to know Yvetter better than Xavier did.
Xavier’s dark eyes flashed with malice as he turned to look at Yvette. “Darling, why haven’t you mentioned having such a close childhood friend?”
Yvette felt like her waist might break under the pressure as he tightened his grip.
Her heart ached bitterly, it was only in moments like these that he was willing to call her his wife.
After all, no man liked to lose to another man, even if it was about a woman.
“It must have slipped your mind,” she replied softly. After all, Xavier had never cared about what she said or what kind of friends she had. It wasn’t surprising that he didn’t know about Claude.
“In that case, you can catch up with Mr. Lander after he and I finish our work.”
‘There’s no need.” Yvette instinctively refused, knowing that he was being sarcastic.
Xavier leaned in closer, deliberately appearing affectionate as he lowered his voice. “If you don’t see him now, what if you meet behind my back later?
Yvette stared at him coldly. Facing her clear yet icy gaze, Xavier felt a quiver in his chest. He quickly averted his eyes.
Claude suppressed his frustration and anger as he observed their interaction. After all, Yvette was still legally Xavier’s wife, while he was merely her childhood friend.
Xavier soon let go of Yvette and went to the meeting room with Claude.
Yvette’s waist was throbbing with pain. Upon noticing this, Mark had someone bring Yvette a glass of
water.
“Ms. Snyder, why put yourself through this?”
Yvette looked at him and asked in return, “What do you mean ‘put myself through this? What did I do

wrong?”
Mark hesitated before explaining, “I think you should live a good life with Mr. Lane Instead of doing things that lower your dignity for another man. (1
“If the Lane family found out that you were entangled with Claude Lander, do you know how it would affect Mr. Lane’s reputation?”
Live a good life with Xavier…
Xavier’s reputation…
Why did no one ever worry about her?
Xavier had once treated her like air, subjected her to emotional abuse, spent time with other hurt her with his cruel words. He had never fulfilled his duties as a husband.

When she had been bullied by those around him, he had never stood up for her. And now, she was expected to live well with him and protect his reputation.
She used to be a “good wife” who hadn’t even been able to have a career, all for the sake of his reputation and image.
“As expected of his subordinate,” Yvette said mockingly.
It was clear why Xavier had brought her to meet Claude today. Now Mark was demanding things from her…
Mark didn’t understand why Yvette had said that. He had merely offered well–intended advice.
After all, Xavier was now evidently showing vulnerability. This was something Yvette had always waited for, wasn’t it?
“Ms. Snyder, some things should be left as they are. If pushed to the limit, there might be no turning back,
