At Dewberry Manor, Xavier was still awake when Yvette got home. He was dressed in a pair of dark- colored pajamas and was currently seated on the couch.
His gaze fell on her as she walked in. “Did you have fun today?”
“It was okay,” she responded.
He got up, and his towering figure cast a shadow over her. “I heard from Daphne that you wanted to trade
me for ten billion dollars.”
Yvette Choked. Why was he asking if he already knew?
“No, I didn’t.”
“Really?” He leaned toward her.
Yvette instinctively took a step back. “First of all, you should know that I’m not on good terms with Daphne. Why would I ask her for ten billion in exchange for you?
“Besides, I didn’t even take your mother’s check. So, why would I go out of my way to do this?”
Xavier let her finish, but he wasn’t convinced.
There was no other way Daphne would have let him see that exchange earlier today. Yvette had probably found out about her scheme–that was the only possible explanation,
“Is there anything else?” Yvette had been backed against the wall.
He swallowed at the sight of her careful demeanor. He was incredibly tempted by the thought of taking her as his own.
“How are your funds coming along?”
She hadn’t expected him to ask for money this soon. “I don’t have enough yet.”
“How about a proposal?” His breath was heavy. “Since we’re married, you wouldn’t have to pay me the cost of the wedding gifts if you fulfilled your duties as a wife.”
Her duties as a wife?
As an adult, Yvette was fully aware
of what he was insinuating.
Her face was hot. Before she could respond, Xavier reached out to stroke her burning cheek.
“How about a million every time?”
Herbrain short–circuited. A million dollars for each time they went to bed? What kind of person did he take her for?
Then, she was reminded of the first time he had forced himself on her.
“No, thank you.” She shoved him away and stormed upstairs in rage. Once she got back to her room, she locked the door behind her.
Xavier was now alone. He didn’t understand–why had she gotten mad again?

Yvette was the feistiest woman he had ever met. She got upset at the smallest things, and she had even given him an attitude. No other woman had the guts to show him attitude.
Upset, he headed straight for Sternhow Club.
The manager swiftly gathered the most beautiful and clever women available so that Xavier could take his pick. While seated, Xavier scanned through rows and rows of women, but he wasn’t in the mood.
“Mr. Lane.” A seductive woman approached him and tried to flirt.
He eyed her emotionlessly. All he could think about was Yvette’s angry expression. When the woman touched his hand, he felt unusually disgusted.
He yelled, “Piss off!”
Soon, all the women in the suite left dejectedly.
Xavier was sitting there alone when Tracy slipped into the room. As soon as she saw him, she fell to her knees.
With a terrified expression, she pleaded, “Please spare me, Mr. Lane.”
He wasn’t fazed at all. “Who are you?”
Tracy froze. “I–I’m Tracy Jones… Have you forgotten about me?”
Tracy Jones?
Xavier had an impeccable memory. However, he didn’t bother remembering anyone from work. He couldn’t care less about those he wasn’t associated with either.
Tracy stared at him–he genuinely looked like he didn’t remember. Hence, she could only tell him what had happened the other day.
“You asked if I was willing to serve you even if I didn’t get paid. I said okay, and you told me to work at Sternhow Club for free.”
Her story rang a bell.
“Are you here because you regret that decision?” asked Xavier.
Tracy immediately shook her head. “Not at all. I’m here to ask you to spare me. I really don’t want to be a hostess.”
He was confused. When had he ever asked her to be a hostess?
