Chapter 104
“My apologies, sir.” Mark had always known his place. He had only spoken up this time because he didn’t want Xavier to have any regrets in the future.

After all, he was the one who knew best just how much Xavier had changed during the years. Yvette had been missing.
Xavier didn’t blame him. After Mark left, Xavier returned to the room.
Yvette had just received a call from Kiki, who informed her that she had been released late last night.
“Yvvy, did you meet up with Xavier?” Kiki asked. She had sensed that something was off since Yvette hadn’t answered her calls the night before.
“Yes, I talked to him about it yesterday,” Yvette admitted without hiding anything.
“Did he give you a hard time?” Kiki asked anxiously.
“He didn’t.” Yvette saw Xavier coming back into the room. “I’ll talk to you later.” Then, she hung up the
phone.
“Who called?” Xavier asked as he strode into the room.
“My friend, Kiki,” Yvette replied. As she stood up, she looked at Xavier and asked, “Where’s Noah? ! need to see him. He has always been sick; he needs medical attention at all times.”
“He’s staying somewhere with a medical team,” Xavier replied, implying that Yvette wouldn’t get to see
Noah.
“He’s my son; I must see him!”
Yvette knew that it was useless to plead with Xavier once he made up his mind.
Deep down, she was terrified. She feared that if Xavier didn’t believe her and conducted a patemity test with Noah, he would discover that she had lied and that Noah was indeed his son.
“I’ll let you see him if you’re good and stay at home. Do you have nothing else to say to me besides this?”
Yvette looked at him in confusion when she heard that.
Xavier continued, “What have you been doing abroad all these years? Why did you choose to come back?”
He couldn’t understand why she had shown up at the charity auction and later collaborated with Lane Group. He didn’t believe in coincidences.
One lie often required many more to cover it up.

“I told you I wanted to start over. As for coming back…” Yvette looked up, meeting his deep gaze directly.
“Would you believe me if I said it was because I can’t let go of the past? I can’t accept how I got
nothing in return after giving you so much. I came back to see if you’d changed.”

She figured that Xavier would somewhat accept an explanation like this. Since he was so self- assured, he would never believe that she would leave him or that she could ever love anyone else.
Xavier looked at her with scrutiny. “Is that all?”
“Yes.” Yvette nodded.
A heaviness settled in Xavier’s heart. It wasn’t Yvette’s words that weighed on him, but rather the way she looked at him. With years of experience in the business world, he could easily tell if someone was lying.
From Yvette’s eyes, he couldn’t see any resentment toward him.
Xavier’s throat tightened. “Let bygones be bygones. From now on, let’s try to live well together.” With that said, he walked away.
In the end, he had still chosen to deceive himself.
Although Xavier said that he wanted Yvette to stay at Dewberry Manor, he didn’t restrict her freedom. She was free to leave and go out.
As Yvette stepped out of Dewberry Manor, Ray’s car slowly emerged from its hidden spot.
“Ms. Snyder,” Ray greeted her with concern. “Are you alright?”
When Yvette had arrived at Dewberry Manor the day before, all her listening devices had been blocked. Ray hadn’t heard anything and hadn’t known what had happened to her.
Yvette shook her head. “Yes, I’m fine.”
“Shall we go back to Mansions Nine?” Ray asked,
“Let’s go to Kiki’s place.”
“Alright.” With that, Ray started the car. As they drove, Yvette gazed out the window. Her mind was filled with thoughts of what had happened last night.
