Chapter 283
The stifling darkness of the basement caused Clara to lose her composure after just three hours.
“Let me out… Let me out!” Clara pounded desperately on the basement door. However, not a sound could penetrate the thick walls.
After a while, the basement door creaked open, and Clara saw a ray of light streaming in. Before she could rejoice, she caught sight of Belle. Belle, who was already on the brink of mental collapse from days of torment, recoiled in fear at the sight of the pitch–black room.
“No, please… I don’t want to!” Belle exclaimed as she backed away in horror.
Despite her protests, she was mercilessly pushed inside
“Ah!” Clara was startled when she sensed Belle squirming toward her.
Fear was etched on Clara’s face. She exclaimed, “What do you think you’re doing? I’m carrying Sergio’s child! You can’t treat me like this!” Before Clara could finish speaking, Sergio walked in.
Upon seeing him, Clara felt a surge of relief, as if she had found her guardian. She immediately rushed toward him. “Sergio… Sergio, you’ve finally come to see me! Listen, I can explain…”

“I don’t need an explanation.” Sergio’s voice was colder and more unfamiliar than ever before.
Clara looked up to see Sergio crouching down, his gaze piercing with coldness.

He reached out to grip Clara’s chin and then gently turned her face to meet his. “Clara, I know you’ve taken on someone else’s identity and killed a friend. I’ve looked into everything ”
His words hung heavy in the air, leaving Clara unable to utter a single word.
Realizing that Sergio knew everything, Clara was taken aback.
“I… I didn’t say anything. It wasn’t me…” Belle stammered, shaking her head desperately beside Clara.
Belle had been locked in the dark cell for days and nearly driven to the brink of collapse by torture, yet she had steadfastly refused to speak. Therefore, everything Sergio had uncovered was from his own investigations.
Clara felt utterly drained, her body devoid of strength. “Sergio…” she whispered.
“You’re capable of murder. What else wouldn’t you do?” Sergio’s gaze was sharp. It was as if he could dissect her with his eyes alone.
“Were you planning to hide this from me forever? Were you relying on the child in your belly to secure a place in my family if Maeve hadn’t been rescued by Zion after falling into the sea?”
“I… L…” Clara was too petrified to respond.
“You’ve played your cards well, Clara,” Sergio said, his tone icy as he stood up. He turned to Larry and instructed, “Take them to the police station. Let them handle it from here.”
“Yes, Mr. Brooks.”
