Chapter 99
Everyone in the group chat was eagerly awaiting Cathy’s return
Sarah started typing again: [Cathy really wants to bring back Adair’s design draft as soon as possible, but some people are just too full of themselves and think they can take her place. It’s a pity their ability doesn’t match their ambition. Let’s see how long this scheming woman can hold onto Cathy’s position.
Although she didn’t mention Alyssa by name, everyone knew who she was talking about.
Sonja from Marketing added: [Ms. Dawson, since you clearly can’t secure Adair’s design for the company, why don’t you just step aside and give the position back to Ms. Carlson? We in Marketing can’t afford to keep taking hits because of this.]
The store manager from Southville jumped in: [Some people are just so selfish. All they care about is clinging to the chief secretary’s position, completely ignoring the company’s performance and the rest of us who are struggling. How can someone like that deserve to be in such a key role? I think she’s the one who needs to resign.]
The store manager from Seagrove added: [She doesn’t have the ability to match her position. Seriously, what’s wrong with HR nowadays? How did they even hire someone like that? I remember when I interviewed for the company, it was a really tough process.]
Harold from HR replied: [Hey, don’t blame us. We didn’t hire her. She was appointed directly from above.]
The store manager from Southville responded: [Appointed from above? Who are we talking about here? Could she be some director’s mistress?]
The store manager from Seagrove chimed in: [From what I know, all the directors are quite old and already have families. If she’s with one of them, she’s definitely just a mistress.]

The conversation in the group quickly veered from work–related issues to wild speculations about Alyssa’s background, with most comments turning into personal attacks.
Sarah took a screenshot of the chat and sent it to Cathy.
Cathy smiled smugly, thinking, ‘Alyssa, you think you can compete with me, but what do you have to fight with?‘
Holding her phone, Cathy posted an update: [It’s rare to get a break, so I’m definitely going to enjoy it. But with my luck, who knows how long I’ll actually get to relax.]

Meanwhile, Alyssa was too busy to check her phone, let alone the group chat. She wasn’t one for group chats anyway; she usually preferred to handle things directly through private messages.
At the moment, she was buried in work. Cathy had left behind a huge pile of tasks with barely any handover, just a basic to- do list. Alyssa was going through each document one by one, painstakingly organizing everything.
In Andrew’s office, Simon voiced his concern. “Mr. Coleman, if you send Cathy back now, what will happen to the company? What about the design draft? We don’t even know Adair personally. If we want another design from him, it’s probably only Ms. Carlson who can pull it off.”
Andrew was silent for a moment before saying, “We can ask Mr. Sanders to see if the design department can come up another draft.”
Simon smiled wryly. “Mr. Coleman, you know none of our company’s designers are on Adair’s level.”

Andrew frowned and looked at Simon. “Adair’s designs are anonymous. Why are we even talking about his status?”
Simon explained, “Even without considering his reputation, the designs themselves are on another level. You know every season our best–selling pieces are always the ones designed by Adair. That’s proof his work is exceptional–something our in–house designers just can’t match. With his kind of reputation, it’s natural our regular designers can’t compare.”
“Put out an announcement, Andrew ordered. “Anyone in the company who can come up with a good design will get a three- level promotion and a corresponding pay raise. We’re not interested in designer status–we just want creative and quality designs.”
Simon nodded. “Understood, I’ll take care of it.”
