“Thank you!” Alyssa’s face lit up with relief. Sorting through that mountain of messy files was the last thing she wanted to do.
Alyssa had only come in to drop off coffee, but Andrew had the gall to accuse her of milking the company and being lazy. He said she barely spent any time at her desk and, therefore, ordered her to clean up a pile of documents on his coffee table. Thankfully, Cathy showed up just in time to save the day.
Alyssa was about to leave, Andrew suddenly called out, “Hold up a second.”
Alyssa paused and looked back, only to find Andrew wasn’t looking at her. His gaze was fixed on Cathy instead. “Ms. Carlson, is there an issue?” he asked.
Cathy took a deep breath and said, “I’m here to update you on your schedule for today.”
She then turned to Alyssa and said firmly, “Mr. Coleman’s schedule is top secret. Alyssa, could you please step aside?”
“Never mind. She can stay,” Andrew cut in before Alyssa could reply.
Cathy’s eyes went wide with shock as she stared at Andrew, clutching the folder so tightly her knuckles went white. Andrew’s schedule was always kept between himself and Cathy, so she couldn’t believe he’d let Alyssa stay. It made her wonder if Alyssa had some special status with him.
Her heart sank, and a wave of panic washed over her. Cathy had poured her heart and soul into getting Andrew’s attention, only for Alyssa to swoop in seemingly out of nowhere. She was determined not to let this woman mess up her plans to marry Andrew.
Cathy took a deep breath, plastered on a professional smile, and said, “Alright, Alyssa, feel free to stick around and watch. Think of it as a learning opportunity.”
Despite Cathy’s reluctance, Alyssa could only crack a watery smile in response.
Just then, Andrew spoke up, “Ms. Carlson, hand over the schedule to Ms. Dawson. She’ll be handling it from now on and reporting directly to me. This should help lighten your load.”
Cathy felt like she’d been hit by a ton of bricks. ‘Mr. Coleman wants her to take over his schedule, and today she even made his coffee. Is he seriously planning to replace me with her?‘ she thought furiously.
Cathy struggled to keep her cool, her chest tightening and her hands starting to shake.
Alyssa took a glance at Cathy and sighed. She realized that taking over Andrew’s schedule would definitely sour their relationship. At the same time, she shot another pointed look at Andrew, thinking, ‘Is this jerk deliberately trying to make my life difficult?‘
Sensing her glare, Andrew smirked before turning to Cathy. “Ms. Carlson, hand over the schedule to Ms. Dawson,” he said.
Cathy clutched the folder tightly, her voice trembling. “Mr. Coleman, you can’t just give this to her.”
Andrew frowned, “Excuse me?”
Cathy knew Alyssa had caused Andrew some trouble at the company two years ago, a moment that had left a bad taste in his mouth. While no one had dared to bring it up, Cathy wasn’t keen to mention it herself.
But Andrew’s intense focus on Alyssa was impossible to ignore. She realized she had to remind him of that incident, even if
