Chapter 81
Seeing there was no point in arguing, Alyssa decided to drop it. She turned and headed toward the design department manager, intending to ask about the status of the draft. Mistaking her actions, Tamera assumed she was going to snitch and yanked Alyssa by the collar. “Alyssa, where are you going? What does my gossip have to do with you? What, you want to be Cathy’s lapdog now? Running to the manager to tattle on me?”
Alyssa shot her a cold look. “I’m just here to work. I don’t have time for your drama.”
She then calmly shook off Tamera’s grip and walked straight to the manager’s office.
Tamera’s hand throbbed from being slapped away, and she bit her lip, staring daggers at Alyssa’s back.
The other people in the design department exchanged looks but quickly went back to their workstations, deciding it was best to stay out of it.
Meanwhile, Andrew had just parked his car and spent a few moments on the rooftop, enjoying the fresh air before heading down to his office.
On the way, he cast a quick glance at the secretarial area but didn’t spot Alyssa anywhere. His brows furrowed slightly.
He thought, ‘How could she still not be here? I have lingered upstairs for a while, and she still hasn’t shown up? Or is she off slacking somewhere again? This woman is too good at dodging work. Clearly, I need to give her something more substantial to keep her occupied.‘
Settling into his office, he picked up the phone and called Cathy.
“Bring me a cup of coffee,” he said.
Cathy quickly collected herself. “Right away.”
Just as she was about to hang up, she heard Andrew add, “Have Alyssa make it.”
Cathy froze. “Whate
Andrew’s expression darkened. He had kept Cathy around for so long because she never questioned his orders and always got things done efficiently. Having to repeat himself like this was a first.
“Get Alyssa to make it,” he repeated, his voice growing slightly colder.
Cathy gripped the phone tightly, her knuckles turning white.
She thought, ‘Why? Why does he want Alyssa to make the coffee? She has only been here two days! Is it because she is attractive? I have always taken care of everything for Andrew, and now he is specifically asking for Alyssa. Am I being replaced?‘
Jealousy and bitterness surged within her. She had made sure Sarah kept Alyssa away so Andrew wouldn’t notice her but somehow he still zeroed in on her.
Cathy clenched her teeth, unable to speak for a moment.
Andrew’s patience was running out. His tone was laced with icy indifference. “Did you not hear me, or are you unaware of the staff in the secretarial office and don’t know there’s a Ms. Dawson?”
Hearing the chill in his voice, Cathy snapped out of her daze, panicking. “I’m sorry, Mr. Coleman. I’ll handle it immediately.”
