Chapter 8
Alyssa noticed Hailey’s sneaky movements and caught Megan’s taunting words. A faint smile appeared on her lips as she turned her gaze toward Sean.
Seeing her look at him, Sean figured it was the same old routine excuses and making up. His voice edged with impatience. “Save it. Just apologize to Megan, change out of those clothes, and start cooking
Then his eyes fell on Alyssa’s black outfit, and he scowled. “What the hell is with the black? It’s fucking depressing”
Alyssa’s smile turned mocking as she thought, ‘He’s completely forgotten today is my father’s anniversary:
Her voice went cold, “Sean, is that all I am to you? Just some fucking maid?”
Sean’s gaze hardened as he tried to figure out what was going on, Alyssa wasn’t acting like herself–usually, by now, she’d be apologizing, promising to do better. But instead, she was pushing back.
He frowned, his tone leaving no room for debate. If that’s how you feel, I can’t do anything about it. But tell me this–are you making the damn meal or not?”
Alyssa lowered her gaze slightly, that faint smile still on her lips.No.”
Sean blinked, disbelief coloring his voice. “No?”
“Sean, we’re done, Alyssa said again, her voice steady and unyielding.
Sean’s eyes narrowed slightly as he thought, Seriously, she is going overboard with this playing hard–to–get thing
He shot back coldly, “Alyssa, drop the bullshit. I’m not in the mood for your games.”
Alyssa met his stare, just as icy. “Neither am I. Let’s just cut our losses and move on,” she said. With that, she turned on her heel. flung open the door, and walked out of the place that had turned her heart to ice.
Megan and her friends were left speechless, completely stunned.
Megan frowned, biting her lower lip. “Alyssa’s lost her damn mind, she quickly ending the video call.
Hailey frowned too, bewildered. “Why the hell is Alyssa acting so crazy?” she wondered.
Her plan to record the drarna for later ruined, Hailey slipped her phone back into her pocket and hurried over to Alyssa, gently grabbing her arm. “Alyssa, come on, don’t throw a tantrum. Mr. Rivera hasn’t had dinner with you lately because he’s been swamped with work, she said soothingly.
She leaned in closer, whispering like a confidante, “Seriously, don’t worry. I’ve been keeping an eye on him for you. There’s no other woman.”
Alyssa’s eyes bore into Hailey, her mind drifting back to all the times she’d worried about Sean fooling around. That was why she’d made Hailey his secretary in the first place to keep an eye on him.

Hailey had always reassured her that Sean was loyal, too busy with work to look elsewhere, always saying he liked a woman who was good at keeping the home.
And Alyssa had believed her, spending years playing the perfect homemaker, never once guessing that Hailey had been screwing around with Sean all along.
Even now, Hailey had no clue that her little act was up, still playing the part of the supportive friend. Alyssa felt a cold smile tugging at her lips, but she kept it under control, replying with a calm grin, “Oh, really? So, Hailey, you’re gonna keep. looking out for me, right?”

“Of course,” Hailey hurried to agree. “Just apologize to Megan, show a bit more commitment to the family, and Mr. Rivera will come around. He really values a woman who’s dedicated to the home.”
Alyssa’s smirk deepened. Still trying to sell me that crap, huh?‘ she thought.
But she wasn’t the gullible fool she used to be. Hailey’s lies weren’t gonna fool her anymore. Alyssa had made up her mind- she was done playing nice. She was going to take back everything that was hers.
From now on, nothing would be the same.
