Chapter 69
“That must be someone from the company,” Alyssa said.
“Our company doesn’t encourage overtime. Everyone takes the employee elevator when they leave. Why would anyone be using the stairs?” Tamera whispered as the sound of high heels grew closer.
She grabbed Alyssa and pulled her aside. “Quick, hide! Hurry!”
With that, the two of them turned and ran back.

But since Alyssa wasn’t familiar with the layout and the area was a bit dark, she accidentally bumped her leg against a door, making a loud noise.
Cathy, who had just reached the third floor, immediately called out, “Who’s there? Come out!”
Alyssa had no choice but to step out. Tamera tried to pull her back but failed, so she stayed hidden behind the door, peeking out nervously.

When Alyssa saw Cathy, she was a bit surprised. “Oh, Ms. Carlson, why are you taking the stairs? Is the executive elevator broken? Or are you trying to lose weight?”
Cathy’s face darkened. Everyone in the company knew she didn’t have access to the executive elevator. She thought, ‘Is Alyssa deliberately rubbing it in?‘
Her gaze turned icy as she glared at Alyssa as she was still catching her breath.
But Alyssa had no idea that Cathy lacked the elevator card. She just assumed that after being the CEO’s personal secretary for so many years, Cathy would surely have one by now.
Seeing Cathy struggling in high heels on the stairs, Alyssa helpfully suggested, “It’d be easier if you took off your shoes.” Cathy’s expression only grew colder. She stared at Alyssa with a look that could kill.
Realizing she was being stared down, Alyssa quickly moved aside. “Uh, sorry, am I in your way? Please, go ahead.”
Cathy didn’t move, still fixing her glare on Alyssa.
Feeling a bit lost, Alyssa touched her nose awkwardly. “Is there something on my face?”

Cathy coldly responded, “Today, just pretend you never saw me. Understand?”
Alyssa was confused, but she didn’t want to get involved in other people’s business, so she nodded. “Got it.”
Only then did Cathy strut away, her high heels clicking loudly with every step as she went down the stairs.
Watching her make her way down in heels, Alyssa sighed helplessly. “If she’s trying to lose weight, why wear high heels on the stairs? She’s just asking for trouble–not to mention risking a fall.”
“She’s not trying to lose weight. She doesn’t have access to the executive elevator,” Tamera said as she emerged from behind the door and joined Alyssa.
Alyssa looked at her in disbelief. “Wait, what? She doesn’t have the elevator card?”
“Yeah.” Tamera nodded.
Alyssa rubbed her forehead. “Uh, so does that mean everything I just said must’ve really pissed her off?”

Chapter 691
Tamera shook her head. “No”
“Oh, that’s a relief then,” Alyssa said, patting her chest.
“I mean it wasn’t just a little annoying–you hit her where it hurt! Not having that elevator card has always been a sore spot for Cathy.”
Alyssa raised an eyebrow. “What’s the story there?”
“Cathy’s been with the company since it started. She was the second person to work under Mr. Coleman, practically a founding member. Mr. Coleman trusts her completely, and she always his companion at events. People have even started speculating that she and Mr. Coleman have… you know, that kind of relationship,” Tamera said with a mischievous grin.
“What kind of relationship?” Alyssa asked.
“Oh, don’t play dumb. You know, that kind of relationship,” Tamera said, winking suggestively.
Alyssa nodded. “Got it.”
