Chapter 64
Sean had put the call on speaker so his mother and sister could comfort Hailey. He thought that women could relate to each other more. However, when he heard what Megan said, he recalled what Hailey did under the influence of the drug yesterday and glanced at Hailey awkwardly.
Hailey blushed and said softly, “Megan, don’t say that, I did everything for Mr. Rivera because I wanted to. He doesn’t need to be responsible. He and Alyssa are a match made in heaven.” Her voice trailed off sadly.
Sean stared at Hailey intently. He had assumed she acted under the drug’s influence last night, but now he suddenly realized she liked him.
Sean felt a bit happy but knew he couldn’t be with Hailey now. He had to marry Alyssa and secure that 20% company shares. He wouldn’t rest easy until the company belonged to him entirely.
Sean remarked, “That’s right, Megan. Don’t talk nonsense. Hailey and I are just colleagues. Don’t cause others to gossip about Hailey with such talk.”
After Sean said this, Hailey burst into tears. However, she still put on a tough act, her voice choking as she said, “I… I need to go to the restroom.” Then she quickly fled.
Sean felt anxious. He wanted to chase after Hailey, but in the end, he didn’t. He knew that if he went after her now, he would likely break things off with Alyssa and be with Hailey. However, he couldn’t date Hailey only to marry Alyssa later. That would be too unfair to Hailey. Hailey had already suffered enough, and he couldn’t let her suffer more. Thus, he held back and didn’t go after her.
On the other end of the line, Megan exclaimed, “Sean, you’ve hurt Hailey’s feelings. She really likes you. Go after her.”

Brenda also chimed in, “Sean, go comfort Hailey. She’s a nice girl.”
Sean frowned. “Mom, Megan, don’t poke your noses in my business. I know what I’m doing.”
“Sean, what do you mean by that? Do you really want to be with Alyssa? She’s not good enough for you,” Megan said sharply. She was frustrated that her brother wouldn’t listen to her.
Brenda knew Sean was after the shares and probably had feelings for Hailey. She scolded Megan, “Sean can handle his own Butt out.”
Megan snorted angrily and sat down on the sofa, sulking.
Brenda then said to Sean, “Now that Alyssa has moved out and you don’t know where she is, are you sure you can still get those shares from her? You don’t even know where to find her.”
Sean sneered, “Mom, Alyssa will come back on her own. She can’t live without me. If I buy an engagement ring for another woman, I bet she won’t be able to keep her cool.”
“When she comes back, I’ll make her apologize and teach her a lesson. This time she has gone too far,” Brenda said angrily.
“Alright. When she comes back, you can punish her however you want,” Sean replied with a chuckle.
“Good. Bye then. You should go comfort Hailey. Don’t break her heart. If you wait until you get the shares to pursue her, she might not want to marry you then,” Brenda added.
“Got it. By the way, hire a cleaning service to clean up the house. I’m bringing Hailey home for dinner tonight,” Sean said.
“Sure,” Brenda replied, overjoyed.
