Chapter 62
Alyssa had no more work at the moment, so she sat in front of the computer and continued to study the history of Coleman Fashion. She believed one had to first understand the company before working there. Being a secretary was easy and gave her time to familiarize herself with the company. This way, when she eventually faced off against Rivorn Clothing, she would be well–prepared.
However, Alyssa had barely begun reading when her phone rang. It was a call from Brenda. Alyssa hung up immediately.
Brenda was ready to manipulate Alyssa again but the call ended abruptly. She trembled with anger and called again but was hung up once more by Alyssa. Brenda kept calling, but Alyssa quickly blocked her number. Enraged, Brenda threw her phone to the ground.
Megan, who was beside Brenda, asked, “Alyssa’s not answering?”
Gritting her teeth, Brenda said, “The bitch hung up on me. Just wait until she gets back. I’ll teach her a lesson and lay down the ground rules. We can’t let her into our house so easily.”
Megan pursed her lips. “Mom, Alyssa seems to have changed. She doesn’t seem as obedient as before. Look at the house. She didn’t even clean up after my birthday party. We weren’t home all day yesterday and I thought she would have cleaned everything up, but it’s still a mess. I just checked. There are maggots on the plates now. It’s so disgusting. Alyssa used to love cleanliness.”
Brenda fumed. “Alyssa has indeed changed. She’s getting lazier. I must have a serious talk with your brother. We can’t let him marry such a lazy woman. She’ll make our family poor.”
“But Sean wants Alyssa’s shares, so he’ll marry her, even if she’s changed,” Megan said irritably, “Hailey is way better than Alyssa. Alyssa has nothing besides the company shares.”
Brenda frowned. “I don’t know what your brother was thinking back then. How could he let Alyssa get 20% of the company’s shares? Now, he has no choice but to marry her.”
Megan suddenly said, “But it’s okay. Plenty of women will want to marry Sean now that he’s successful. After he marries Alyssa and gets her shares, he can divorce her. Sean won’t have any trouble remarrying, but Alyssa will.”
Brenda chuckled smugly. “That’s true. With how excellent your brother is, women will still fight over him even if he’s divorced.”
After feeling pleased with themselves for a while, Megan clutched her stomach and complained, “Mom, I’m starving. No one is cooking lunch. What should we do?”
Brenda pursed her lips. “Let’s order takeout first. When Alyssa gets back, I’ll deal with her.”
Megan pouted. “Mom, takeout tasted awful. Do you remember what we had the day before yesterday? It was salty and oily. I can’t stomach that. I want to eat Alyssa’s food.”
Brenda knew takeout couldn’t compare to Alyssa’s cooking. More importantly, ordering takeout meant they had to spend their own money. When Alyssa cooked, she bought the ingredients so they could eat well and healthily for free.
After thinking for a moment, Brenda said, “Check that bitch’s room. Doesn’t she care most about her dad? Find something her dad had left for her. I’ll send her a message telling her to come back to cook for us, or we’ll destroy it.”
Megan nodded. She found the spare key and quickly walked to the room Alyssa used to stay in. She had expected the door to be locked, but it opened with a gentle push.
