Chapter 281
Andrew took a long look at Alyssa, noticing the beads of sweat on her forehead. Suddenly, he felt a whole lot better. It seems like getting this marriage license means a lot to her, too, he thought.
“So, got everything you need?” Andrew asked.
“Absolutely.” Alyssa replied, sporting a confident smile. “I know exactly why I’m here today.”
“Alright then, let’s head inside,” said Andrew, breezing into the city hall office with Alyssa hurrying after him.
They managed to get the marriage certificate without a hitch, all wrapped up in half an hour.
Stepping outside, Andrew had a moment. “Now that we’re officially hitched, I’ve got three things on my list. First, I’m not cool with cheating, so I hope things are squared away between you and your ex. Second, we gotta back each other up, family stuff included. And third, this one’s key.”
He locked eyes with Alyssa. “Try not to fall for me. Love’s complicated, and frankly, I’m not a fan.”
Alyssa, keeping it light, laid out her own terms. “Okay, your turn to listen. I’m with you on the no–cheating policy, so let’s keep things tight. Next, remember all those promises before we got hitched? Better keep your word. And lastly, I’ve got my own gig. so playing housewife, especially cooking, is off the table. Oh, and let’s steer clear of meddling in each other’s business”
Hearing Alyssa’s stance on cooking. Andrew couldn’t help but burst out laughing. “You? Cooking? I’d like you to stay away from the kitchen in the future.
Alyssa eyed Andrew with a hint of surprise. ‘Didn’t he get the memo that I’m pretty good in the kitchen? Hasn’t the fashion world been buzzing about my cooking lessons with a Michelin–starred chef, all to knock Sean’s socks off? Isn’t Andrew clued into this gossip?” she wondered.
Turns out, Andrew wasn’t a part of their world. He was actually the big shot of the most influential family in Northville. The polished version was that he was in Endale City on business expansion quests. But speaking plainly, he was just here soaking up life.
Andrew kept a low profile. Not many in Endale City could claim they knew the real him. Alyssa, for one, had no idea. She lumped Andrew and Sean together, viewing them both as newcomers to the upper class trying to find their footing among
the elite.
“Why are you staring at me like that?” Andrew’s frown deepened as he touched his face, wondering if something was amiss.
In her head, Alyssa was actually relieved he didn’t know about her culinary skills. She figured she could now dodge kitchen duties indefinitely. Truth be told, she was over cooking, especially since it felt pointless when Megan and Brenda seemed unappreciative of her efforts.
“Well, gotta dash. I’ve got things to do, Alyssa said, waving off Sean. She couldn’t forget that Hailey had schemed against her today, and Alyssa was itching to give Hailey a piece of her mind.
Just as she was about to take off, Andrew’s voice stopped her. “Ms. Dawson.”
Alyssa looked back, and Andrew, lips pursed, said, “Since we’re married, can I have your number?”
