Chapter 111
Cathy reached out to touch her father’s face and suddenly smiled. She said, “Dad, you’re the smartest. Our lives used to be miserable. You had to drive for 20 hours a day with only four hours of rest. Even then, you couldn’t repay the gambling debt Mom left you. Did you protect Andrew during the car accident because you felt that life was too tiring? Is that why you chose this path? Look, you’re so comfortable now. You can lie here and do nothing. Andrew pays for your medical bills. You even got me the opportunity to be by Andrew’s side.”
Cathy chuckled and continued, “Dad, before Alyssa appeared, Andrew was really good to me. He took me along with him in everything he did and showed me many things. He made me realize there are so many beautiful things in this world that I have yet to discover. But Dad, I want more. I want to be his wife and live in high society in the future. I don’t want to live the life we used to have anymore.
“I was about to succeed. Besides me, no other woman stood by his side. I just had to work a little harder. Just a little more and I could have married him. But now, Alyssa has disrupted all my plans and snatched everything that belonged to me. Dad, I can’t accept this. How can I accept this?”
The more she spoke, the more agitated she became. She suddenly stood up and grabbed her father’s shoulder. She asked, “Dad, you’ll definitely help me again, right?”
Her father showed no reaction.
Cathy stood at the side of the bed and stared at her father for a long time. Then, she reached out and removed the oxygen mask from his face. When she saw her father’s breathing was getting more and more rapid and his entire body starting to convulse, she pressed the bell to call the nurses and quickly left the ward. She took out her phone and called Andrew
The call was picked up on the third ring. Andrew’s indifferent voice came from the other end. He asked, “What’s the matter?” Pretending to be anxious and helpless, Cathy said, “Mr. Coleman, something is wrong with my dad.”
After a long pause, Andrew asked, “What’s wrong?”
Cathy choked as she sobbed. She replied, “I don’t know. The doctor in the sanatorium is attempting to resuscitate him now Can you come over?”
Andrew replied, “Since the doctor is resuscitating him, let the doctor do his job. I know nothing about medicine.” Andrew’s voice was pleasant to the ears, but his words were exceptionally cold.
Upon hearing Andrew’s rejection, Cathy’s entire body trembled as she sobbed uncontrollably. She wailed, “Mr. Coleman, I’m scared. I’m afraid I’ll lose my father. My mother has long left us. My father is my only remaining family member. I’m afraid of losing him as well. Won’t you help me?”
“How much money do you need? Let me know and I’ll transfer the amount to you,” said Andrew calmly.
benefactor? I Cathy was almost in despair. She shouted hysterically, “Why are you so cold? My father ended up like this trying to save you. How can you be so heartless? Andrew Coleman, are you even human? Why do you act so indifferent to your wonder what my father was thinking back then for him to decide to save you.”
Andrew was silent for a few seconds before saying, “I’ll come over now.”
Cathy heaved a sigh of relief and, with a nasal voice, said, “Alright. I’ll wait for you here.”
