Chapter 8
Adeline West
I stared at her as she stood up and strolled towards me. I could see the hatred in her eyes, the smirk on her lips while she circled me like a predatory watching its prey. Her eyes ran over me, watching every part of my body.
“Is there something you need. Ms. Parker?” I asked, politely.
“Oh, there’s plenty I need, but unfortunately, I’m stuck dealing with you,” she replied, her voice dripping with venom. “You know, it’s really pathetic how you cling to a position that doesn’t belong to you.”
I took a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I said.
She stepped closer, her eyes narrowing. “Don’t play dumb with me, Adeline. You think you can just waltz in here and steal Killian from me? You’re nothing but a gold–digging little bitch,”
Her words cut deep, but I refused to let her see how much they hurt. “I’m not trying to steal anything from anyone. I’m just doing my job,” I said, fisting my hands and controlling myself.
“Your job?” she scoffed, circling me like a predator. “Your job should be to stay out of my way. Killian was mine long before
came along. He loves me, not you. You’re just a convenient distraction, a tool to be used and discarded.
I clenched my fists at my sides, trying to hold back my tears. “I never wanted to come between you and Killian. This marriage was arranged. I had no choice.” I said, trying my best to keep my voice steady.
Laurel’s laughter was cold and cruel. “And yet, here you are, pretending to be his wife. But let me make one thing very clear -you will never be more than a temporary inconvenience. Killian will come to his senses, and you’ll be out of here faster than you can say ‘gold digger.” She said.
“I don’t want to fight with you, Ms. Parker,” I said quietly. “I just want to do my job and fulfill my responsibilities.”
She leaned in, her eyes blazing with hatred. “Your only responsibility is to disappear. If you think for one second that you can take my place, you’re delusional. I will make your life here a living hell until you get the message and leave.”
I held her gaze, refusing to back down despite the fear coursing through me. “I’m not going anywhere.” I said, remembering my promises
Her lips curled into a sinister smile. “We’ll see about that. Just remember, Adeline, I always get what I want. And what I want is for you to be gone.”
With that, she turned on her heel and walked away, leaving me standing there, shaken to my core. I knew I had a fight ahead of me, but I wasn’t about to let Laurel or anyone else bully me into submission. I had a place here, and I was determined to prove that I belonged.
I was in the washroom. Looking at my reflection, I noticed a faint mark below my collarbone. As I stared at it, that night rushed to my mind. The night where I lost my virginity to a stranger who I helped–It’s been a month and half since that night, but every night since then, his warmth and his touch still lingered on my skin. Making my mind flash, those memories of him fucking me the whole night
No! Adeline!! You need to stop thinking about it!
I pushed all my thoughts to the back of my mind and walked out of the washroom. As I kept myself busy with work, preparing reports, I was told to Miranda walked toward me, her expression cold and calculating. Without warning, she snatched the reports I had painstakingly prepared and tore them to pieces. “These are pathetic,” she sneered, then turned to Laurel. “Right, Ms. Parker?”

I stared at them in shock and disbelief. It had taken me three hours to prepare those reports, and she had just destroyed them as if they were nothing. I felt my chest tighten with the effort of controlling my tears. “Yes, Miranda,” I nodded, trying to keep my voice steady,
Laurel smirked, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction. All these days, they left no stone unturned in making it hard for me to work in the office, their friends joining in to add to my torment. The entire day. I fought to hold back my tears, refusing to give in to their bullying.
By the time I got home, it was late..
Moon goddess!! Today was hectic.
But you were good, Adeline. No matter how they were treating you, you refused to let their words get to you and kept working. You are a strong woman. Keep going, never back down
Runa said. Her words made me feel proud of myself.
Exhausted, I freshened up and dressed in my nightclothes. As I was about to walk out of my room, I felt my head spin for at second. I placed my hand on the door for support. “I should stan cating properly, this keeps happening nowadays.” I murmured to myself.
I made my way towards the downstairs to make dinner for myself. I noticed Killian walking from his office to his room as we live on the same floor. My heart skipped a beat when I saw blood dripping from his knuckles. I knew he was an alpha wolf and that his wounds would heal quickly, but I couldn’t stop myself from worrying.
Since that day. I told him that he was my mate. I tried my best to make him see my efforts and hope he will start accepting me as his mate and his wife. Hoping that he would love me like a mate should. Like my father loves my mother. Like grandfather loved my grandmother till his death. Praying to the Moon goddess to help me.
Grabbing the first aid kit, I made my way to his room. I knocked softly on the door and entered. Killian looked up, his eyes cold and filled with anger. “What do you want?” he snapped. “Gef out.”
I took a deep breath, steadying myself. “I just want to help,” I said quietly.
“I don’t need your help,” he retorted, his voice dripping with disdain. “Get out and leave me alone.”
Ignoring his harsh words, I stepped closer, my heart pounding. “Please, let me clean your wound,” I insisted, my voice barely above a whisper. “It’ll only take a moment.”
Killian glared at me, his jaw clenched. For a moment, I thought he would throw me out, but then he sighed, resigned. “Fine,” he muttered. “Do whatever you want.”
With trembling hands, I moved closer and gently took his hand As I cleaned the blood from his knuckles, I could feel the tension radiating from him. His cold gray eyes fixed on me. Despite his anger, he allowed me to bandage his wound. The silence between us was heavy, filled with unspoken words.
When I finished, I quickly stepped back. “There,” I said softly. “All done.”
Killian looked at his bandaged hand and then back at me, his expression unreadable. “Why do you care?” he asked, his voice softer than before, but still guarded.
I met his gaze, my heart aching. “Because you’re my mate and my husband,” I replied.
He stared at me for a long moment, something flickering in his eyes that I couldn’t quite place. Then, just as quickly, his walls went back up. “You should go,” he said, his voice once again cold and distant
I nodded, turning to leave. “Good night, Killian,” I whispered before walking out of the room.
Wow!!You did amazing, Adeline. I’m so proud of you. Runa said, her tail wagging happily.

Runa, it’s nothing. He still didn’t like me helping him. He said to get out, remember?
I said, reminding her.
you
Yes, but he did let you near him, Didn’t he? It’s a small victory, nonetheless. I already told you multiple times If you take a step and fight, you will earn your place.
My wolf cheered me for taking a step towards him, and I smiled, feeling a small victory. As I was making food, I heard a loud thud come from Clair’s room. I glanced at her room. “What’s that?” I murmured. “Maybe it’s nothing.” I said to myself and continued working.
I heard it again. I stopped and turned to her room. “Something wrong” I mumbled, looking at her room. I could feel it.
I made my way to her room. The door was left ajar.
“Clair?” I called out to her, but there was no response.
“Clair?” I called again, still no response.
Slowly, I pushed the door open and saw the room was empty.
Where is she? I thought, while looking around.
Maybe it’s just in my head. I thought and turned around. Something red caught my eye. I looked down–it was blood
Blood:
My heart pounded as I followed the trail, and then I saw Clair lying beside the bed on the floor in a pool of blood. A scream tore from my lips. “Oh my goddess, Clair!!” I rushed to her, seeing a silver dagger stabbed into her chest. It’s silver. It will kill a wolf, Oh Goddess, who did this to her. Panic surged through me as I grabbed the knife hesitantly and pulled it out, desperate to do something, anything, to help her,
“Clair?” I kept calling her out.
Suddenly, Killian, his mother, and the maids of the mansion rushed into the room. Everyone stared at the dagger in my hand and at Clair’s lifeless body. The silence was deafening, filled only with the pounding of my heart and the rush of blood in my cars.
