Chapter 6
Adeline West
I found myself in a small, empty hall. I pressed my back against se wall and let the tears fall. The weight of my emotions was too much to bear. The man who was supposed to be my mate, my other half, was in love with someone else. The pain was excruciating. No matter how much I tried to control it, these bears wouldn’t stop coming at all. I can’t stop myself from crying.
Killian thinks of me as a gold digger and doesn’t want anything to do with me.
What should I do now?
When we got married, I felt a twisted sense of relief, thinking that I could save myself for my mate and not have to deal with Killian in any intimate way or anything. But now he’s my mate and my husband, who hates me and loves someone else. The irony and cruelty of it all were unbearable.”
Tears streamed down my face as I sank to the floor, my back against the cold wall. I wrapped my arms around my feeling like a lost child.
knees,
“Why?” I whispered into the empty room. “Why would you make him my mate if he loves someone else? What kind of cruel joke is this?”
My sobs grew louder, echoing off the walls. I was trapped in a marriage with a man who loathes me, who believed I was after his wealth, and who loved another woman with all his heart. The weight of my emotions was suffocating.
As I cried, memories of my past rushed to my mind. The way my father used to look at me before my mother died, the affection that vanished after her death, and the years of neglect and bullying from my stepmother and stepsister. Now, even my mate was denying me any kind of happiness or love.
I wiped my tears away with the back of my hand, but they kept coming. I felt utterly helpless and alone. The thought of confronting Killian and telling him the truth seemed both necessary and impossible. How could I tell him he was my mate when he was so obviously in love with Laurel? Would it even make a difference?
What should I do?
I kept thinking, my mind racing in circles. Confusion and fear gnawed at me, but one thought kept surfacing, demanding attention: I had to tell Killian the truth. He needed to know that I was his mate, the one the Moon Goddess had chosen for hit, and also his wife..
With that in mind, I went back to my work and ignored everything else.
At home, I found myself in the kitchen, cooking food for myself. The chopping of vegetables provided a small distraction from the turmoil in my mind. As I stirred a pot on the stove, I saw Greta enter the room. Her eyes, filled with concern, fixed
on me.
“Adeline, what happened?” She asked gently, her voice filled with genuine worry. “You look like you’ve been crying”
1 hesitated, unsure if I should share my burdens with her.
“It’s nothing. Greta.” I tried to brush it off, but she pressed gently “Come on, dear, you can tell me. Sometimes, it helps to
share
I sighed, feeling the dam of my emotions about to burst. “It’s just everything. Killian, this marriage, my life here… it’s all too much.”

Greta pulled up a chair and sat down beside me, her eyes never leaving my face, “Tell me what’s going on, Adeline.”
I hesitated, but the kindness in her eyes and the warmth of her presence felt like a balm to my wounded heart.
“I just found out I began, my voice trembling. “Killian, he’s my mate. I said in a low voice, scared of anyone else hearing it.
“What? This is great news. Your husband is your mate,” she said, her eyes bright with happiness.
“No, it’s not… hehe loves Laurel and doesn’t want anything to do with me.” I said, sadness dripping in my voice.
“Adeline, you’re stronger than you think. The Moon Goddess doesn’t make mistakes. If she chose Killian as your mate, then there’s a reason for it. You need to fight for your place in his life, for your place in this pack.”
I looked at her, feeling a spark of hope. “But how, Greta‘ He hates me. He thinks I’m a gold digger. And he loves Laurel. He will reject me I said.
Greta squeezed my hand gently. “You have to show him who you truly are, not the person he thinks you are. Be patient, and don’t let anyone bully you into believing you’re less than you are. This is your life and your destiny. Claim it.”
Her words echoed deeply within me. I had spent so much time being passive, accepting whatever fate threw at me, that I had forgotten I had the power to change my own story. Greta’s advice was like a beacon of light in the darkness that surrounded me.
“Thank you, Greta,” I whispered, my voice thick with emotion. I don’t know what I would do without you.”
She smiled warmly, her eyes twinkling. “You don’t have to thank me, dear. Just promise me you’ll fight for yourself. Don’t let anyone make you feel unworthy of the happiness you deserve.”
I nodded, a sense of determination settling over me. I will tell Killian the truth, but more importantly, I will show him who I truly am. I would fight for my place, not just in his life, but in this world. I wouldn’t let his love for Laurel or his misconceptions about me hold me back.
The next day, I woke up with a purpose and determination shining in my eyes. I did my morning routines and headed to Clair’s room with a tray filled with breakfast and hot coffee. I knocked on the door and waited for her response.
“Come
in, came her voice..
I pushed the door open and headed inside. She was still in her nightclothes and had a cold look on her face when she saw me. I placed the tray down and turned to her.
“Good morning. Clair. I hope you enjoy your breakfast.” I said with a smile on my lips and walked out of the room without waiting for her response. I don’t want to ruin my day by hearing her cold comments anymore. I had enough of her bullying
I walked back to the kitchen, where I came face–to–face with Teressa, Killian’s mother. She had a way of expressing her dislike for my presence, particularly in the early mornings.
“Where are you coming from?” She asked, her eyes filled with suspicion and annoyance.
“Clair’s room,” I replied politely.
“Why were you there?” She said, taking a step towards me, her eyes sharp and boring into mine.
To hand her breakfast,” I replied. Normally, whenever Teressa tried to intimidate me and try to bully me, I always stepped back and avoided eye contact with her, trying my best not to anger her more. I used to stay quiet and let her bully me, but today it won’t happen. I will face her and not let her intimidate or corner me.

She stood in front of me, glaring at me while clenching her jaw Didn’t I tell you to stay away from my children the grabbing my wrist and gripping it hard.
“Yes, you did.” I said, pulling my hand off her tight grip. Teresa was surprised at the reaction and glared at me daughter ordered me, only me, to bring breakfast to her room ry day I said, trying my best to control my tone and anger. “So, you see. I don’t have an option.”
Teresa tried to say something, but I spun around and headed to the kitchen. Pushing everything to the back of my head, I continued to do work when I heard Greta calling me. I turned and saw her approaching me.
“Good morning, Greta.” I greeted her with a smile on my lips.
“Good morning, Adeline.” She greeted me back with a warm smile.
“What is it?” I asked, turning to her.
“Mr. Volkov asked to bring his breakfast to his office.” She said, “think you should take it to his office”
“Me? Why me?” I said, surprised at her suggestion. I still remember his rules of staying away from him and don’t want to face him after what I saw last time.
“Dear. I told you, you should start fighting for your place here; he’s your mate and your husband. You should be taking care of his responsibility, child. It’s time to stop running away,” she said, placing a tray filled with breakfast for Killian and pushing me to go.
“But I stuttered.
“No, buts, just go.” She pushed me,
Hesitatingly, I made my way to Killian’s office, which was on the second floor. I still remember his confession to Laurel; his voice was filled with affection and adoration when he said those three words. He loves her, and somewhere deep inside me, a voice kept telling me that no matter what I do, he will never love me like he loves her.
He will love us.
A voice spoke all of a sudden.
I jumped in surprise, almost dropping the tray of food.
Who are you? I asked.
I’m Runa, your wolf. It said,
Runa? My wolf?
I said, trying to grasp the information.
Yes, and Killian is our mate, our husband. Laurel may be someone he loves, but the Moon Godders chose him for us and us for him. He married us, and we should fight for him and our position in his life.
She said, her voice filled with determination.
But what if he rejects us for her? I asked, the question clawing at my mind.
He won’t, just tell him. She urged me.
Okay,
I agreed.

I knocked on the door, taking a deep breath and steading myself I need to tell him the truth, no matter what happens.
“Come in.” His rough and deep voice from inside.

1 pushed the door open and walked in. He was sitting behind his desk and working on his laptop. I walked towards the sitting area, placed the food on the table, and turned to him.
“Good morning.” I greeted, looking at him with a small smile on my lips. He had a neutral expression on his face when he looked at me.
“What do you want?” he asked. “I have already sent funds to your family. So drop the act and get out.” His words were sharp and hard. They struck right through my heart. He thought I was here for money. I brought breakfast for him and politely greeted him, and he thinks it’s all an act for his money?
How could he think so low of me after all I have endured over the past few months?
How could he?
“I want to talk to you about something.” I said, swallowing the lurt and sadness his words erupted in me.
“I said, get out,” he said, looking at me, his eyes filled with annoyance and bitterness. “I don’t want to waste my time talking to a gold digger like you.”
I froze. The anger, which I had been suppressing all this time, began to resurface with full force. I fisted my hands and clenched my teeth while glaring at him.
Why did you marry me if you think I’m a gold digger?” I asked in anger. He snapped his eyes from his laptop to mine. immediately felt the sheer intensity of those gray orbs held, but I refused to submit.
“You know very well why I married you.” He said, clenching his jaw, making it look even sharper.
“You should have refused if you hated me so much. At least I would have been freed from all this torment.” I said, tears filling my eyes. “From the day I came here, I agreed to everything you told me to do. I began working in your company, compensating the money you sent to my family, enduring all the bullying and verbal abuse from your mother, sister and Miranda all the time without saying a word to them. I have been working for everything this mansion has offered me from day to night,” I continued. “So, don’t you dare call me a gold digger!”
I hate these tears. No matter how hard I tried to control them from flowing down, I couldn’t. I was angry, frustrated by everything.

Killian’s intense gaze held mine as silence fell between us. No one of us broke eye contact or said anything Minutes passed, but the silence still hung heavy,
Tell him why you are here!
My wolf kept urging me.
Tell him!
1 wiped my tears and steered myself before looking at him. I know what his answer will be but I need to face it..
“I actually wanted to tell you…” I began taking a breath, that you are my mate.”
