Chapter 40
Adeline West
After having breakfast, Killian left, leaving us to have our breakfast. The tense atmosphere melted the moment he walked out. Later, I decided it was time to visit Eveline, the kind doctor the only person after Greta who helped me. She had become a good friend to me over the years. She used to call me every day to check up on me, and our conversations quickly blossomed into a cherished friendship. I informed Sebastian about my visit. He was busy in a meeting.
Tm going to see Eveline. I’ll call you once I get there.” I said.”
“Alright,” Sebastian said, his concern evideni. “Be careful, and call me if you need anything,” he added.
I agreed and prepared to take my children out.
As we stepped outside, Bridget immediately spotted Killian standing near the driveway, deep in conversation with his beta, Damien, Without hesitation, she ran toward him, her excitement evident in her quick steps. Tristan, on the other hand, held. my hand tightly and stayed close to me, his demeanor protective. I had never seen him like this before, and it took me by surprise,
Danyen turned to me and greeted me with a stall smile. “Good morning, Adeline.”
“Good morning, Damien, I replied.
“It’s good to see you,” he said, looking at me.
“You too.” I smiled.
Bridget, ever the social butterfly, quickly began chattering with Damien in her sweet, innocent voice. “Hi, Damien‘ Are you friends with Toy Man too?” She asked.
Damien chuckled. “Yes, I am friends with a toy man,” he said, glancing at Killian. “We work together.” He added.
Bridget beamed at this new information “That’s so cool! Are you going to the same place as Toy Man? She asked.
“We have some work to do, yes,” Damien said, glancing at Killian
Killian’s expression softened as he listened to Bridget. Despite the tension between us, I couldn’t help but notice the genuine affection he had for my daughter.
“Come on, sweetie, we are getting late. I called out to Bridget.
Damien looked back at me. “Where are you headed, Adeline? We can drop you off,” he asked.
I glanced at Killian, whose gray eyes shifted to mine. “I can manage, thank you.” I said my tone was polite.
But Damien insisted, “It’s no trouble. Killian and I are heading to the Volkov Towers, and we can easily drop you off on the way,” he said.
Bridget chimed in, “Please, Mommy? Can we go with Toy Man?” She asked in her adorable voice.
-Seeing her eager face, I couldn’t resist. “Alright, if it’s really no trouble.” I said.
“It’s not,” Killian said, his tone leaving no room for
argument.
We all got into the car, with Damien driving and Killian sitting in the front passenger seat. Bridget, Tristan, and I settled in the back. Throughout the ride, Bridget was talking non–stop to Killian, who, to my surprise, listened patiently.

Bridget’s eyes widened. “Wow, a wooden wolf! That sounds amazing!” She said,
The conversation continued like this, with Bridget asking endless questions and Killian patiently answering each one. Tristan remained quiet, holding my hand, but I could see he was listening intently.
I watched the interaction, my heart swelling with unexpected emotions. Seeing Killian in this light, patient and gentle with my children, was something I hadn’t anticipated. Despite the tension and unresolved issues between us, there was a moment of genuine connection here.

“And they must be Tristan and Bridget.” She said, looking at them.
“Yeah,” I replied
Bridget immediately warmed to Eveline, while Tristan greeted her while staying beside me
Eveline ushered us inside and offered refreshments. We sat in her office, and I felt a sense of peace wash over me. Eveline had always been a calming presence in my life, and today was no different. As we settled into her cozy office, the children played with some toys she kept in a corner. Eveline and I caught up on our lives, sharing stories and laughter. She noticed. the pensive look on my face and asked, “So, what are you doing here? In the pack?” She asked, curious.
