Chapter 21
Killian Volkov
After waking up early in the morning and having breakfast, I decided to work from home for the day. As I made my way to my office. I heard my grandfather’s voice booming through the ballway.
“Get out! You are not welcome here!”
Who is he shouting at? I thought.
I hurried in his direction and saw Laurel standing in the doorway, tears streaming down her face. Grandpa stood before her, his face red with anger.
“Grandpa, what’s going on?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
He pointed a shaky finger at Laurel. “If you want to meet her, do it outside. She’s not welcome in this house.” He declared.
“Killian, I just wanted to get you. I didn’t mean to cause any trouble.” Laurel sobbed louder.

I put a hand on my grandfather’s shoulder, trying to calm him down “Grandpa, please, just take a deep breath.” I said.
He shook his head, his eyes blazing. “No, Killian. I’ve told you before, she doesn’t belong here. He said, glaring at Laurel.
Laurel clung to my arm, her tears soaking my shirt. “Killian, he hates me. I don’t know why.” She cried.
“Come with me.” I said and gently led Laurel outside to the garden, away from my grandfather’s glare. She hugged me tightly, her body trembling with sobs. Inside, I felt irritation bubbling up, but I tried to remain composed.
“Shh, it’s okay,” I murmured, patting her back. “Calm down,” I said.
She looked
up
at me, her eyes red and puffy. “Why does he hate me so much, Killian? What did I ever do to him?” She asked
I sighed, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “He just he’s set in his ways. I told you to stay away until he leaves, Laurel. You have to listen.”
I told her to stay away from the mansion numerous times, but she still keeps coming, which makes Grandpa angry every single time. Her behavior is constantly causing trouble for me.
“But I miss you,” she whispered, leaning her head against my chest. “I just wanted to see you.” She added.
I took a deep breath, feeling the weight of her words. “Look, just go home and rest for now. We’ll talk later, okay?” I suggested.
She nodded reluctantly and slowly walked away. I watched her go a mix of frustration and concern gnawing at me.
I arrived at Volkov Towers, hoping to bury myself in work and forget the morning’s events. But my grandfather’s words yesterday kept echoing in my mind, and I couldn’t shake the feeling of doubt they stirred:
Sitting at my desk, I tried to focus on the stack of papers in front of me. But the memories of Adeline and the accusations. against her kept resurfacing. I pushed them away, only for them to bounce back stronger.
“Why now?” I muttered to myself, rubbing my temples.
I know grandpa hates Laurel because she left me years ago when my grandpa wanted my brother to be the alpha and returned after I got married to Adeline, making him believe that she came back because she wants to be my wife and the luna of the pack. Which was not true. She left me because she heard Grandpa yelling at me one night, asking me to stay away from her, and decided to leave. The day she returned, she told me everything. She said that she didn’t want to create

any more fights between us and decided to leave without telling he, but she couldn’t move on from me and came back to
I really want Grandpa to accept her and allow me to marry her. Since he’s one of the elders of the pack, I need his permission to marry her.
Adeline is gone. I rejected her and banished her. Why can’t he accept it?
After work. I headed back home, the thoughts of Adeline swirling relentlessly in my mind. I hated that I couldn’t keep her out of my head. Why did she still haunt me after all these years! Was Grandpa right about her? These questions grawed at me, and I needed to escape them
Once home. I took a long, hot shower, hoping the water would wash away my worries. It didn’t. I dried off and decided to bury myself in work in keep her out of my mind. In my office, I plunged into paperwork, numbers, and business strategies Anything to distract me from the continuous thoughts of Adeline.
A knock on the door pulled me out of my focus. Grandpa stood there with a serious expression on his face.
“Killian, we need to talk, he said, stepping into the room without waiting for an invitation.
I sighed, leaning back in my chair. “What is it now, Grandpa
“There’s something you need to see, he began, his tone urgent.
What is it about?” I asked.
“It’s about Laurel.” He said,
I felt a familiar irritation rise within me, “Grandpa, we’ve been over this. Laurel saved me. I love her. I’m going to marry her, Please understand.” I responded, trying to keep my frustration at bay.
Grandpa’s eyes flashed with frustration “Killian, you’re blind, Laurel wasn’t the one who saved you that night,” he said, walking towards me
“What are you trying to say?” I asked, confused at his words..
“That night when you were attacked, the woman who saved you he continued, sitting opposite me….It wasn’t laurel,”
“What?” I asked.
It
“Yes,” he confirmed. “When you told me about it, I asked my men to find out who it was because I will never believe that someone as selfish as Laurel Parker would risk her life and save you instead of herself in a situation like that,” he said, “… and when they began to search, they learned that someone deleted the CCTV footage of that night and manipulated it” He informed me.
I was still trying to process what he was saying. Laurel wasn’t the kind of woman who lies, and I am one hundred percent sure that my grandpa must be mistaken or something. Why would Laurel lie to me?
My heart skipped a beat, anger and confusion clashing inside me. “What are you talking about? Laurel was there that night.” I said, dismissing his claims.
“Did you see her face?” he asked.
“No, but,” I tried to say, but he stopped me by raising his hand.
He shook his head disapprovingly and pulled a pen drive from his pocket, handing it to me. “Watch this. It’s footage from the night you were attacked. I had my men recover it,” he said.
Chapter 21
Reluctantly, I took the pen drive and plugged it into my computer. The screen lit up with grainy footage of the night that had changed everything, pushing me to give Laurel and our love a chance.
I watched as the same woman helped me, guiding me to an emply meeting hall, where moments later I fucked her senseless. In the darkness, it was hard to make out her features. But then she opened the door, helping me to walk inside the meeting hall, when the rays of light fell on her face,
My breath caught in my throat, and I froze.
It wasn’t Laurel.
It was Adeline.
I stared at the screen, my mind reeling.
Adeline had saved me.
Not Laurel
