Avery’s pov
What is he saying? What does he mean? Who did they find?
“Who did they find?” My soft voice is firmer now, more urgent and panicked. The headmaster caught them, but he ignored me as if I wasn’t even there and uttered.
“I told you they’d find him sooner or later. You better pray he doesn’t get punished badly,” with those few words he head for the door. His fingers had just wrapped around the handle when Xander growled.
It was so wild and fierce my heart began to pound. ” where he was heading to!”

The headmaster looked back, face still voice of emotion. “I did. It’s my job. Just like the council is doing their job. It’s his fault for not being able to contain himself. This is on him, not me. It’s better this way Xander.”
Xander takes a menacing step forward, his eyes hard. I’ve never seen him so furious and rigid. He looks scarier than Xade when he’s angry. It’s shocking.
“Better for him or for you!” Xander snapped. “All you had to do was not yap about it to them. We could have handled it.”
The headmaster’s eyes harden. “You did a good job in handling it,” he juts out his chin toward me and I squirmed under the pressure of his cold gaze. “Handle her and let them handle him.”
He turns back around and opens the door yet doesn’t step foot out.

Turning his head to look at a furious Xaden, he said. “Oh, and you might want to answer your father. Stop avoiding him.”
With those words, he left us two alone. My heartbeat had not cased and his words grew my worry. I knew he was talking about Xade. As he left us alone. I whispered with fright.
“What does he mean Xaden?” My heart pounded in my chest painfully, creating a dull ache that wouldn’t go away.
Xaden stiffen when my voice reached his ears. It was as though he forgot I was in the room. “It’s nothing,” he finally utters, keeping his voice void of emotion as he turns to me.
But he does, his eyes are downcast to the floor, a frown on his forals
“I should probably get the nurse since you’re now awake,” he his thumb to the door and I just knew he was looking for a way of this.
“Xaden,” I murmured softly, my eyes pleading with him even though he wouldn’t find it in him to look up. Look at me godda*mit!
“You haven’t answered my question. Where is Xade? What does the headmaster mean by they caught him? What’s going on Xaden?”
He finally looked up and stared at me warmly, yet there was a guard casting over his eyes. He sighs, walking over and patting my hand that still clenched the sheets. “You need more rest. Do you want some
water? I can get you water-
“Xaden!” I snapped loudly, ignoring the pain in my throat that protested. “Answer me!” I shout, tears blurring my vision until the image of his face turns funnily. “Answer me godda*mit! Where’s Xade!? What happened and why don’t you want to tell me anything? What’s going on Xaden?”
My lower lip trembled and Xaden groaned while running a hand down

his face in anguish “I wish I could let you know Avery. But I can’t. It’s better if you don’t know anything at all. Just know that Xade is safe and he loves you.”
My heart hurt. Why does it sound as though Xade had gotten into a huge mess and would not make it out alive? Why does it sound as though I am about to lose the love of my life?
It feels as though the very breath in my lungs is being snagged away. from me. My chest tightens and my heart’s rhythm speeds uncontrollably. I can hear it on the monitor and see Xaden look at it worriedly.
“It’s better I don’t know anything at all?” I repeated, my nails now biting into the material of the sheet. The poor sheet.
en nodded, seeming a bit relieved that I repeated the words. “Yest ttle V. It’s safer that way-
“For you or for me?” I whispered in a breath of disbelief. Xaden stiffen. “Let me get this straight. I am to not know where my boyfriend is or what has happened to him?”
Xaden winced but nod. “I’ll get the nurse-
“When you do, don’t come back in.” I said emotionless as my soul detach from my emotions. How can I feel any emotions right now when I am not even sure what’s happening around me?
What am I supposed to feel? I am lost. It’s so clear that Xaden is hiding something. It’s so clear that Xade had done something to put himself in trouble. But what had he done? What’s going on?
