Chapter 134

FREDA WHITLOCK

“Not only are you trying to take my husband from me, your b**h friend is trying to do that too?” Safiya questioned, looking between us and I was filled with confusion.

“What?” I asked, pressing my lips together and balling my hands into fists. I was not sure what she was accusing Lyra of, but I didn’t like that she was accusing her at all. “Safiya, whatever this is, you need to stop. There are people here,” I said, shaking my head and glaring at her.

Lyra stepped forward and I watched as she crossed her hands in front of her. “What the hell are you talking about?” She asked with fury flowing from her voice. “Lyra…” I called and she looked at me. I gave her a sign with my eyes that told her that we

needed to leave. I did not want any of this, and I sure as hell did not want Safiya to embarrass Lyra because she had problems with me.

“No,” Lyra said, shaking her head. “I want to hear what this accusation is about,” she said. I looked at Safiya, knowing that Lyra would not want to give this up. If she was accused of something falsely, she wanted to know why the person was accusing her. She was not one to back down easily. That was nice, but it was very disadvantageous for us right now.

“Don’t look at me like that,” Safiya said with a saccharine-sweet smile. “Come on, Lyra,” she said, turning to Lyra. “Tell her how you were trying to take Kaiden away. You tried to seduce him at

the children’s party in the school bathroom. Tell her,” she said and my eyebrows rose.

Lyra’s face became pale and she looked at me immediately, shaking her head. I scoffed and smiled at her. I knew whatever Safiya was cooking up right now was a lie, and she was only trying to get in between Lyra and me. That made me furious. How many things was she going to try to take away from me? Just how many?

“Safiya, don’t you dare,” I said through gritted teeth, taking a step towards her. Lyra took a step back and watched us both with an expression in her eyes that I could not read. “What? Why don’t you ask Lyra if I’m lying?” She asked with a smirk, taking a step towards me, coming lower down the staircase.

“Shut up…” I said through gritted teeth. “I don’t want to hear a word from you,” I added, turning away from her and towards Lyra. There were tears in my eyes and Lyra’s eyes softened as soon as she saw them. My day was officially so ruined that there was nothing that could make it better and I could not possibly go to see or talk to my dad while feeling like this.

“Come on, let’s go,” I told Lyra. I grabbed Francisco’s hand and was about to take a step when Safiya grabbed my hand. “I’m not done with you!” She yelled and I furiously snatched my hand from her grip. I started to walk away when I heard everyone around let out a collective gasp just as Safiya cried out.

I turned around to look at her and my heart dropped when I saw her on the ground. I let go of Francisco’s hand and took a step towards her before I stopped myself. She was whimpering and people were gathering around her. Some others were glaring at Lyra, Francisco, and me.

1 let out a sigh and took Francisco’s hand before walking towards the exit again. I broke into a jog and Lyra raced after me. ‘Freda, Freda wait! She called, but I ignored her. I got into the back seat of the car with Francisco. I wiped the tears that were flowing down my cheeks and buckled Francisco in.

“Are you okay, mommy?” Francisco asked with concern in his voice. I nodded and sniffled. I was miserable. This was stupid but it hurt too much.

“Freda…” Lyra called softly when she got to the window beside my seat. I looked at her and handed her the key to the car. “Can we…” She started to ask but I shook my head. I did not want to talk about it, about anything. Not now, at least.

She nodded and walked to the driver’s side with a defeated look on her face. She looked like she was about to cry but I could not comfortable her. Not when I was feeling like absolute shit.

She climbed into the car, started it, and started to drive away. Just as she turned out of the parking lot, something smashed into the back windshield and Francisco screamed. I gasped and turned around just as I heard people yelling. “She tried to hurt our Luna and her baby,” one of them yelled.

Lyra put more speed and soon we were away from the mall.

“Dad’s place?” Lyra softly asked from where she was, glancing in the rearview mirror. I shook my head and she nodded in response.
