Chapter 51
Joanna gazed out the window, and suddenly, there was another roar of thunder. The flash of lightning looked like it was about to split the sky open.
She drew a sharp breath, saying. “This is terrifying.
Winston looked up, a sense of unease settling in his heart.
Despite the pouring rain, he could vaguely see Millie slumped over the steering wheel when his car passed by her vehicle.
Even after a long while, Millie’s car remained stationary.
Slumping over the steering wheel, Millie pressed both hands firmly on her ears, attempting to block out the thunder.
But for some reason, it was as if the thunder was aware of her fear and roared louder to mock her.
When she lifted her head again, her face was pale.
Millie pulled a blanket from the backseat to wrap it tightly around herself.
The windshield wipers continued moving steadily as she curled into a ball, trying to find solace.
Usually, Yerwick should have been bustling with the start of nightlife at 1:00 am. Yet, the rain had caused the streets to become empty.
As the lights of the bar grew dim, Millie remained curled up in her car, waiting for the rain to stop.
Ding!
Suddenly, her phone chimed.
It was a text from Simon. “I think I saw your car.”
Millie glanced at the glowing phone on the passenger seat. As she was about to reach for it, a sudden clap of thunder made her jump, and she immediately pulled her hand back.
Closing her eyes, Millie could not help but pinch her thighs. She trembled uncontrollably because of the inner turmoil. Her inability to calm her mind caused her forehead to glisten with sweat.
“Come on, Millie! It’s just thunder. What’s there to be afraid of? It’s just a trauma. You can overcome it!
she whispered to herself.
Biting her lip, she focused on reaching for her phone once more.
At that very moment, someone suddenly knocked on her car window.
Outside, a dark figure stood there.
Millie almost jumped up from the seat at the sight. In the next second, she screamed.
She quickly covered her face with the blanket, attempting to protect herself.

The person knocked on the car window again. It was the voice of a man.
Amidst the loud pattering of the rain, his voice sounded somewhat urgent.
Lowering the blanket, Millie peered through the rain–streak window and caught sight of the face outside.
It was Simon!
Right then, she felt as though she had found a lifeline.
Millie ignored the heavy rain, opened the car door, and stepped out.
She looked at Simon, helplessly reaching out to grasp the hem of his shirt.
Simon froze, but his umbrella slowly tilted toward Millie.
What was happening…
Millie gulped nervously while her heart raced.
She forced herself to remain composed before saying with a slightly hoarse voice, “I’m not feeling well. Could you take me home?”
Simon was somewhat surprised that she would ask him to send her home.
“Sure.” Simon nodded, gesturing for Millie to get into the car.
“Thank you!”
And so, they drove away.
Not far from them, a black car’s headlights flickered on, casting light upon the bar entrance.
Wearing an icy expression, Winston watched Millie’s car disappear into the distance.
He tightened his grip on the steering wheel, his gaze becoming darker and more intent. The image of Millie holding onto the hem of Simon’s shirt lingered in his mind.
Thinking that Millie was terrified of thunder, Winston rushed over after dropping Joanna home. He did not expect to witness this scene. 1
How could he forget that Millie never lacked suitors? Though it was already 1:00 am, she still dared to get into another man’s car.
Winston wondered if she knew Simon’s character well. A 30–year–old bachelor could very well be a creep!
Did Millie really develop feelings for Simon?
At that thought, Winston was even more frustrated. He stepped on the accelerator and followed the purple Pagani.

Millie leaned against the window in the passenger seat. She was a lot calmer and less fearful after Simon’s sudden appearance.
“It’s late. Why are you still out?” Simon spoke first
Millie lifted her gaze and replied calmly, “I went to meet a friend. What about you?”
Simon pursed his lips before answering, “I just ended work.”
Millie merely hummed in acknowledgment.
Outside, the thunder rumbled, causing her to shrink back instinctively.
Simon glanced at her. He was just about to ask if she was afraid of thunder when the car behind them suddenly caught his attention.
It was a black Maybach with the license plate YAA–888.
Was that… Winston’s car?
