Chapter 169
Millie frowned, her delicate features contorting in distress.
“Millie, you’ve had too much to drink,” the man remarked. His voice was clear, yet it carried a hint of nonchalance.
Millie was in a daze. She looked up and attempted to discern the man’s face. But her smudged makeup, fallen lashes, and the dim lighting made it impossible to see clearly.
Everything was blurry. Just like his feelings for her, they had never been clear.
A mix of emotions crossed Winston’s face as he looked at the dark circles under Millie’s eyes. How had she ended up in such a state?
“Let me take you home,” Winston said. He then grabbed her wrist and intended to lead her out of the dance floor.
But Millie pushed his hand away, shaking her head. “No! I’m not done yet!”
“You’ve had too much to drink!” Winston chided with a scowl. At last, his voice carried a hint of emotion.
“I haven’t! I’m perfectly sober!” Millie bellowed.
Upon hearing those words, Winston’s expression turned cold. He watched as Millie disappeared into the crowd once more.
The club’s atmosphere shifted as soon as Winston appeared. Millie tried to find someone to drink with, but people backed away.
Standing by the dance floor, Winston’s icy gaze swept across the room. He was determined to see who would have the guts to drink with her in his presence.
Millie felt isolated, so she shot a furious glare at him. “Winston Greer!!
He walked over, his impatience evident. Winston grabbed Millie’s hand again and snapped, “Time to go home.”
“No way!” Millie retorted. She was clearly upset.
Not far away from them, Jake and Rachel rushed over.
“Mills…” Rachel stepped forward and shielded Millie behind her.

Winston fixed his gaze on Rachel, who frowned in return. Her tone brimmed with hostility as she asked, “What are you doing here? What do you want with Millie?” “Rachel, she’s had too much to drink. I’m taking her home, Winston said calmly.
Rachel chuckled in exasperation. “She came here with me. Do you think she needs you to send her home? You should go take care of Ms. Lowell!”
While speaking, she held Millie’s hand and told Winston, “Winston Greer, from now on, you don’t need to ask about anything concerning Millie!”
But Winston blocked Rachel’s path before saying, “Rachel, I know you don’t like me. But Millie is still my wife, and I’m obligated to care for her.
“It’s almost midnight now, and it’s inconvenient for you to escort someone who’s had too much to drink. Please allow me to take care of her.”
Winston calmly and gentlemanly asked her to hand Millie over.
Rachel stared at him. For a moment, she could not discern his true motives. Did he actually care about Millie, or was he indifferent?
“And if I refuse?” she countered with displeasure.
Right then, Winston glanced at Jake and calmly suggested, “Jake, Ms. Shaw is a public figure. It’s not safe for her to go home alone at this hour. Could you escort her?
Jake met Rachel’s eyes upon hearing that. He flashed a laid–back smile and casually gestured an “Okay“..
“Sure,” he replied.
With that, Winston swiftly pulled Millie to his side.
When Rachel stepped forward to intervene, Jack stopped her, saying, “Ms. Shaw, this is a matter between husband and wife. Maybe we should stay out of it.”
Rachel shot him a look and said, “You two are in cahoots!”
Her comment left Jake puzzled. He asked with a sense of grievance, “What do you mean by that?”
Rachel remained expressionless. She clearly said that Jake and Winston were working together.

How could Winston have the nerve to call Millie his wife? They had been married for so long, yet he had never regarded her as his wife.
