Millie had wanted to yell at Winston for spamming her with calls. However, she decided to be civil when he brought up the compensation, “I need time to access the funds. Mr. Greer, I thought you knew the procedure.”
‘Transfer the funds tonight,” he demanded, sounding displeased.
Millie was speechless and wondered if Winston was delusional. It was already nighttime, so how was she supposed to do that when the banks were closed?
“I’ll wait for you at The Metropolitan,” he commanded, causing her heart to drop.
She hadn’t heard that tone in a while. It transported her to years ago, which evoked feelings of bitterness.
In the past, she would go to him without hesitation, despite the distance and the difficulties, as it was her honor to be needed by him.
She had always put him before herself, but that didn’t earn his respect. Instead, it led to the unfortunate state of their marriage.
Looking down, she said, “I have something tonight. I can’t meet you. I’ll transfer the funds to you tomorrow morning.”
With that, she hung up.
Too bad she was no longer her old self. It was time for her to grow up after multiple stumbles, even if she still harbored feelings for him. She would never go to gre.: lengths like a fool just to win his attention.
Winston’s face turned red when Millie hung up on him. “How dare she?” he thought.
When she attempted to rejoin the dinner party, he called her again, but she chose not to answer. She texted him, “I will transfer the funds to your account next morning.”
It was a mere 30 million dollars, which she would gladly transfer to him. She couldn’t believe that a Yerwick scion of his net worth would fuss over such an insignificant
amount.
A bitter thought appeared in her head. Winston was so generous with Joanna but so stingy with her.
After texting him, she decided to block his number altogether. Before she could do that, she received a reply from him.

He asked, “Are you unable to meet because you’re having dinner with Simon Harrison?”
She frowned, puzzled by his nonsense. When did she enjoy dinner with Simon?
She blocked his number resolutely before heading back to the private dining room. Finally, she was free from any communication from Winston.
Meanwhile, Winston observed the restaurant from the street, recalling Millie’s compliments for Simon. Feeling unsettled, he leaned against his car and loosened his tie with a forlorn look.
The staring continued for a while before he entered his car. Lighting a cigarette, he looked troubled.
A storm was brewing inside him. Once they subsided, though, he came to terms with his position and realized that he had no right to control Millie.
Lowering his gaze, he thought it might be better for Millie to end up with Simon.
He started the engine and drove out of the roundabout. The security guard guided him out. A frown was etched on his face. Soon, he changed his mind and turned
back.
Parking his car at the restaurant’s entrance, he asked the waiter for Millie’s room number and marched in.
He would accept her new relationship, but only after they were officially divorced. After all, he couldn’t risk being affected by her dating scandal.
At the thought, he quickened his pace. The crisp cologne on his body mingled with the cigarette smoke.
Winston finally stopped at the door of private dining room 2109. He couldn’t get over the fact that Millie might offer Simon what she had offered him.
He wouldn’t allow that to happen. He refused to get the short end of the stick!
He knocked on the door with a scowl, looking as if he were ready to fight. His expression soured further when the door open
