Chapter 111
2823 raised his head and locked eyes with Winston.

Winston gazed at him, feeling a slight unease. At that moment, the name on his mind wasn’t Joanna but Millie. He hoped it was Millie, but he also feared it was her.
“Think about it carefully before answering my question!” Winston glared at him with an icy stare, his eyes slowly growing more menacing.
2823 lowered his head, trembling hands hanging by his legs. He was the mastermind behind the kidnapping. Ever since he had taken Winston captive, he kept a vigilant watch over him.
-He was in control of the overall situation, so he knew exactly who had been tailing him that day. It
was Millie, without a doubt.
Millie was just a young woman in her early 20s. However, she bravely followed them to fight alone and risked her own life to save Winston. Although he almost let the ill–fated couple go, the people
behind him insisted that Winston must die, leaving him no choice.
2823 gritted his teeth, stood up, and confronted Winston. “You’re so confused that you don’t even know who saved you?”
Winston was unconscious all the time. So how could he possibly know who saved him?
All he remembered was waking up again in the hospital, and there was Joanna, wearing a hospital gown. She was leaning on the bed with tears in her eyes and injuries covering her body. It was then that Joanna claimed she was the one who saved him.
“Cut the crap!” Winston furiously grabbed the man’s collar. He was irritated and wanted to know who saved him right away.
The man was aware that he had agitated Winston, so he didn’t dare to provoke him any further and quickly answered, “It was Ms. Lowell!”
Winston’s breath caught in his throat. For an instant, he even forgot to breathe.
It was Joanna.
For the past three years, he had been certain that he was in love with Joanna and had to marry her, hadn’t he? However, why did he feel disappointed when he heard the kidnapper say it was she who
saved him?
“Ms. Joanna Lowell was the one who saved you, stabbed her with my knife, leaving a vertical scar on her right shoulder.” His tone was urgent, as if he feared Winston would become displeased and chop off his fingers again in the next second.
What he said was true. Joanna had a wound on her shoulder, exactly as he described.
“Mr. Greer, Ms. Lowell is brave and smart. She nearly died at sea trying to save you. It’s truly admirable that an ordinary girl can do such a brave thing for you.” When 2823 uttered those words, all he could picture was Millie’s face.

She was covered in blood, with a dagger clenched in her teeth. She gazed at them determinedly and shouted, “Set Winston free. Take me as hostage.
Despite the situation, she remained fearless and remarkably composed. It was because the person who was kidnapped was the man she loved.
Winston slowly let go of his collar. Clearing his throat, he directed his gaze toward 2823 and repeated calmly, “It was Joanna?”
“Yes, it was Ms. Caldwell,” he confirmed.
Winston lowered his gaze and released the man.
The man exclaimed, “Mr. Greer, I truly admire you for having a woman willing to sacrifice her life for It’s a rare blessing for any man to encounter such an extraordinary woman in his lifetime.”
you.

absolutely right. In this life, he was protected by a woman who was unrelated to him by blood. She was even willing to sacrifice herself to save him out of love. What more could one ask for?
> However, he was not grateful and began to suspect that Joanna was pretending to be someone else.
He even became increasingly impatient with her.
Winston sighed, overwhelmed by stress. After a while, he left without looking back.
The man slumped into his chair, unaware that his palms were drenched in sweat.
