Chapter 86
Bonnie took a deep breath, lightly rose on her tors, and spread her arms wide, beginning to dance gracefully. Her movements flowed from slow to fast, each step landing precisely on the beat.
Under the dim yellow light, her white dress appeared ethereal and timeless, as if transporting the audience to another world. They imagined a caterpillar, breaking from its cocoon, spreading its wings to fly towards the sky.
Five minutes later, the music stopped, and so dul the dance. Bonnie howweil to thank the audience, her forehead glistening with sweat, her face flushed with a bashful and sweet demeanor.
“Great” Victoria snapped out of it after a moment, clapping her hands and shouting in approval. From the choreography to the polished skill, it was ready for the international stage. After a pause, she asked, “What culture is your dance from?”
Bonnie paused briefly, instinctively glancing towards a shadowy corner in the audience. Lenore raised her eyebrows, turned on her phone’s screen, and waved it in the air, cheering her on.
Bonnie’s eyes filled with a smile as she calmly and confidently replied, “A very good friend of mine created it, and it’s called Emerging Butterfly” Three years ago, when Bonnie woke up, Lenore creographed this dance to celebrate her transformation. Lenore was not just a friend; she was family.
Victoria didn’t ask any more questions but savored those two words, reflecting on them for a while. She was clearly very pleased with Bonnie, Meanwhile, Ella, who was sitting nearby, frowned, feeling uneasy. Her eyes flickered with concern as she got up and went backstage
Esther was right at the entrance when she witnessed Bonnie’s dance and Victoria’s reaction. She was genuinely surprised–not only could Bonnie dance, but she did is so well. Yer in all her time at Greenvine High School, she had never seen Bonnie dance before.
As Bonnie came down, Esther was digging her nails into her palms, unable to hide the resentment in her eyes. As Bonnie passed by, she muttered. under her breath, “Bonnie, acting like you can’t dance and then stealing the spotlight, you’re probably feeling pretty proud of yourself now, aren’t
you
Bonnie gave Esther a glance but didn’t bother to respond and went backstage. Esther bit her lip, filled with anger.
“Esther
“Ella!” As soon as Esther heard Ella’s voice, she snapped back to reality and put on that innocent act again.
Ella glanced at Bonnie from inside and whispered, “Ms. Harris seems really impressed with Bonnie. You have to surpass her.” Even Ella thought
Bonnie’s dance was amazing.
Esther’s fingers dug into her palms as she lowered her head and said, “What should I do?” Ella furrowed her brow, thought for a moment, and then leaned in to whisper a few words to Esther.
Ellie and Haley were cut from the group, reducing the number of people automatically and allowing another to advance. With Bonnie’s performance standing out, the rest seemed dull and flashy.
Emily was number 17. In her green outfit, she was like a spring breeze. Although she wasn’t quite as good as Bonnie, she still stood out among the others Victoria took note of her name.
Finally, it was Esther’s turn. Remembering their previous meeting and what Ella had said, Victoria perked up, full of anticipation as she watched. Esther wore a colorful dance outfit with feather–like tassels, which looked somewhat similar to what Victoria had worn during her performance carlier that moming.
Victoria caught sight of Ella coming out from backstage from the corner of her eye and seemed to understand something, furrowing her brows.
Ella had been with Victoria for five years and knew her temperament well.
Noticing Victoria’s displeasure, she became a bit anxious and softly said in a playful tone, “My cousin has always admired you. She finally got a chance to perform in front of you today and wanted to show you her best, so she kept bugging me…
Victoria didn’t say anything as Esther danced to the music, her style distinct and elegant, unlike anyone before her. After finishing, Esther stood there, waiting for Victoria’s praise.
However, Victoria frowned, staring at her silently for a moment, and then spoke calmly, “Your dance moves and posture are good, but the dance you performed today combines originality with imitation. It doesn’t suit your age, making it a mishmash, and it even comes off as comical!*
