Chapter 63
The news rippled out from the hospital. Lance clicked his tongue. “Carlos won’t be strutting around anymore…”
But no one got why Lloyd went that far. Kyle stayed quiet, just giving Lenore a long look.
Lenore’s eyes narrowed. She leaned against the wall, spinning a pen between her fingers and thinking, ‘Is Lloyd’s move a way to punish the Duncan family and pledge loyalty to me? I wonder if Carlos’s leg is really broken or not.‘
In the evening, Lenore returned to Regal Villas. From the third–floor balcony, she could see the balcony of the neighboring Block 3 of Area A.
The two villas stood close, with a hundred–yard stretch of garden lawn between them and a waist–high white fence that was still green even in the fall.
Silas didn’t know she lived there. The villa across hers was pitch black tonight, clearly unoccupied.
After enjoying the breeze on the balcony, Lenore headed back to her bedroom and grabbed her robe. She was about to wash up when her computer pinged with a message.
Siren: [Boss, the Mueller family from Mantriland had a 1.3 billion shipment intercepted in Thaloria. They asked Stormwings Operatives Team Three to handle it, offering a quarter of the goods as payment. Are we in?]
Thaloria, an independent region that wasn’t under any country’s control, had a mysterious boss whom no one had ever seen or knew the identity of. It was only rumored that the boss was ruthless and most skilled at turning on his own.
No matter where the cargo hailed from, if Thaloria Thaloria had its eye on it on its turf, the whole load would disappear without a trace.
The Mueller family was aware of the risks but still sent shipments worth 1.3 billion through Thaloria. The dollar amount wasn’t the big deal; it was the cargo that really counted.
Lenore’s eyes narrowed. There was a sinister look in her eyes as her cold fingertips tapped the keyboard twice. [Half.]
When Lenore showed up at school, she was carrying an extra black thermos, featuring a striking design of a pair of cranes chasing the sun, incredibly real.
Bonnie saw it and immediately frowned, looking at the black bracelet on Lenore’s left wrist. “Has it been beeping recently?”
Lenore had taken on a job last night and hadn’t slept well, so she was a bit lazy and sluggish, replying loosely, “No.”

This bracelet was made with nanotechnology to monitor her physical condition. She had been suppressing it for years, and her body temperature was normal, so the bracelet had never beeped.
Bonnie was still worried, looking at the thermos in her hand. “Then you…”
Lenore raised an eyebrow, opened the thermos lid, and offered it with a mischievous smile. “Take a sip?”
Bonnie smelled the rich aroma of alcohol. Her expression turned a bit awkward as she detected the strong scent of alcohol mixed with a medicinal odor, and she asked in a low voice, “Is this medicinal alcohol?”
Lenore clicked her tongue. “Yeah.” As fall rolled around, her body temperature would take a dive, and she couldn’t bring it up on her own; she had to keep it up with a bit of medicinal alcohol.
As Bonnie thought about Lenore’s condition, her eyes flashed with worry again, but knowing Lenore didn’t like to discuss it, she let it go changed the subject. “Esther has taken a leave of absence for half a month starting today.”
and
As a top student in Grade 12 and a perennial figure on Greenvine High School’s list of notables, Esther had never taken a leave before, so taking one for half a month was quite surprising. It was already the end of the month.
Lenore took a sip of the alcohol, her eyes gathering defiance as she said casually, “We’ll start taking days off tomorrow.”
On an unknown small island in Mantriland, in a dark room, a burly man, bare–chested, cursed. He was very irritable. “The Stormwings Operatives Team Three is too arrogant, demanding half the value of the goods as a reward. This is clearly overcharging!”
“It’s because you guys are useless!” The voice came from the computer screen in front of him, where a man sat with his back to him, scolding coldly.
“You knew Thaloria was a dangerous place, yet you still went through there!” The man on the screen clenched his fists, feeling somewhat aggrieved.
The only one who could get this batch of goods out of Thaloria was Xtreme, the captain of the Stormwings Operatives Team Three. Now, Xtreme’s
