Chapter 82: To Her Jerk Ex, You Don’t Deserve It
He smelled faintly fresh, like clean air.
In the black shirt, his pale, almost sickly face looked even colder and more detached.
He raised his hand slightly.
Pointed at her wrist.
“Does it still hurt?”
Maybe it was an accident.
His fingertip brushed the spot where she’d been injured.
Where it had healed, a strange tingling sensation spread.
Gemma felt a shiver run through her chest.
Without thinking, she pulled away.
“No.”
Cassius seemed a little disappointed
Was he
disappointed that he’d only touched her once, or that it was enough, and he couldn’t apply more ointment?
“Reapply the medicine, to be sure.”
Cassius gave the order, his voice flat
Gemma, “…“Are you seriously making things up?
It’s healed!
Then she saw Cassius pull out a bottle of ointment, squeeze some out
Right now, he looked like a diligent teacher.
Trying his best to help a hopeless student.
Gemma sighed, resigned.
After all, she and Cassius were almost friends now.
If he went too far, she’d be furious.
But right now, being forced to apply the ointment again didn’t seem like a big deal.
BUL..
Cassius didn’t seem to be punishing her.
He gently touched her wrist, his fingers soft and light.
Her heart tightened, like it skipped a beat.
After applying the ointment, Cassius stared at her slightly flushed face..
Finally, he sighed softly.
His voice was deep, almost hoarse.
“Remember, no next time.”
“I promise, I’ll remember.”
Gemma extended her hand toward him
In the palm of her hand was a strawberry–flavored candy.
“Thanks for the ointment. I’ll return the favor.
Cassius, with his usual cold demeanor, softened when he saw the candy.
He reached out, took it, unwrapped it, and popped it into his mouth

The corners of his lips lifted, just a little.
“Well, goodnight?”
Gemma relaxed a bit, seeing that he didn’t seem angry anymore.
Cassius grunted in response.
Gemma quickly turned and left.
She ran downstairs, like a rabbit escaping a hunter’s trap.
When she was about to return to her little villa, Shawn suddenly appeared out of nowhere, kicking stones down the gravel path.
“Gem, you’re finally here.”
He came over mysteriously.
“I have a question for you–does Cass still seem upset?”
He
e didn’t dare face Cassius himself, afraid of being blamed.
Gemma remembered Cassius’s almost–smile earlier. “He seems fine now.
“Really?” Shawn’s face lit up. “Guess I can go ask him for that car now.”
He turned to leave, but paused as if he’d thought of something.
“Gem, did you smooth things over? How did you do it?”
He was eager for details, blinking rapidly, hands clasped together, begging for her advice.
Gemma couldn’t help but laugh at him.
They were friends, so there was nothing to hide.
“I gave lum a candy.”
Shawn froze.
“A candy?”
But didn’t Cassius hate sweels?
He always remembered him saying, “See the dentist more often.”
Hmm
Something didn’t add up.
He gave Gemma a sly smile, studying her closely.
Gemma, “???”
“I’m an expert in eye care, Mr. Smith. Don’t hide your condition from me, let me take a look.”
Shawn quickly stopped grinning, clearing his throat.
“Heh, Gem, if Cass gets candy, I should too, right?”
Gemma handed him the last strawberry candy.
“Watch out for ca
avities”
Shawn shoved it in his mouth right away.
“Im not scared.”
Gemma turned to leave.
Shawn, in a good mood from the candy, was about to go as well when suddenly, he stopped her.
Gemma raised an eyebrow. “Still want candy? I’m really out.”
“No.”
Shawn’s face turned serious, his expression shifting.
He paused for a long moment before speaking slowly.

“Gem, can you just stay here”
Gemma blinked. “What?”
“I mean, stay close to Cass. He doesn’t have many friends, you know.”
Shawn was unusually serious now.
“He’s lost enough It’s time for him to win once.”
Gemma was confused,
“Mr. Smith, you better explain yourself—I’m not as smart as you think.”
Shawn snapped out of his reverie, suddenly aware, and shrugged off his serious look.
“Forget it, you big dummy
And with that, he stomped off, leaving Gemma standing there, utterly bewildered.
The next day.
Gemma went to work as usual
Her display board was finished and hung up in the department.
The director was even planning to make a bigger one to hang in the hospital’s main lobby, to show off their hospital’s. strength to patients.
Just thinking about it made Gemma feel so proud.
Her little vanity was completely satisfied.
If not for Marcus’s call, she couldn’t imagine how happy she would’ve been today.
The Wilson scandal had cooled down now.
The rumors about the “other woman” were fading online.
Mabel probably wouldn’t be appearing on screen for a while, and the storm seemed to have passed.
“Got time tonight? We haven’t had dinner together in ages”
Gemma shot back, “Did you go to the rental to pick up Ali last night?”
“Yeah, since you weren’t home, I left a bouquet of roses at your door.”
“No wonder the cleaning lady tagged me, saying I was ruining the common areas” She kindly advised, “Please throw trash in the bin next time, okay? Don’t pollute the environment.”
Marcus went silent, clearly stung by her words
But Gemma had underestimated how thick his skin was
Not long after, Marcus spoke again.
“About the things you’ve been doing at work…”
“It’s in the contract, You’re in charge of it,” Gemma said, with no shame at all
Marcus sighed. “You’ve been lying to me all this time.”
“You just realized?” Gemma sneered. “You lied to me, so I lie to you. It’s called the law of energy conservation.”
“Gemma, so you never thought about coming back to me?” Marcus’s voice turned cold.
Gemma was genuinely enjoying making him crazy.
“Thanks to my ex–husband for the medicinal field, I’m preparing to make pills. This batch will come in handy.”
“We were married for years, and you used me?” Marcus’s tone was icy. If they were any closer, he’d probably strangle her.
Gemma suddenly felt much better.
“Too bad we’re not married anymore. Otherwise, I could keep using you, and let you experience what it’s like to end the streets after bankruptcy.”
