Chapter 81: Mr. Cassius‘ Lecture – A School Guidance Counselor
He was certain Gemma was at home.
But after knocking for a long time.
No one came to answer.
It hadn’t always been like this.
When he lived with his grandmother, it was always his mom who came looking for him. She would even kneel outside just to see him.
He had never waited like this for his mom before.
Things hadn’t been going well for him lately.
He was sent to stay with his grandmother.
She treated him well, but was incredibly strict when it came to his studies.
He had to play the piano, practice golf, ride horses, shoot arrows, swim, fence…
There was hardly any free time.
At five years old, the age when kids just want to play,
Every day with his grandmother felt like a torment.
He missed the days when Gemma would come see him every day.
Even though Gemma would try so hard to please his grandmother–sometimes even washing the horses herself, just like the stable staff–making him feel embarrassed.
Whenever Gemma showed up, his grandmother would avoid her and retreat to the lounge.
Then, he could go wild and play for an hour.
But today, for some reason, his grandmother hadn’t come to take him to the stables.
He didn’t dare slack off, so he practiced piano for an extra hour.
When he finished, his grandmother still hadn’t returned.
He cautiously asked the nanny, and found out his grandmother wasn’t coming back.
He happily went home.
But when he got there, the house was completely empty.
I dare.
He stood in front of the door, looking at his home, and didn’t da
It felt like a monster were inside.
He turned around and ran away.
The nanny and bodyguard chased after him, but he started crying, insisting on finding his mom and dad.
The nanny had no choice but to call Marcus.
Unexpectedly, this time Marcus was surprisingly easygoing. Not only did he not scold them, but he also sent over a location. so they could take Alijah to find Gemma.
Gemma wasn’t home.
Since she wasn’t there, they were about to leave.
But Alijah refused.
They didn’t dare disobey him, so they had no choice but to wait.
They’d been waiting for three hours now.
Alijah hadn’t eaten dinner.
He was starving.
Chapter 81. Mr. Casior Lecture – A School Guidance Counselor
Alijah knew Call.
But when Cali was just a friend of his mom’s, he thought she was a country bumpkin, and disliked her from the bottom of
his heart.
Now…
He desperately grabbed the corner of Call’s shirt.
“Can you help me find my mom? She’ll definitely come back, right?”
He sounded so pitiful.
If it were anyone else, they’d have immediately picked him up and comforted hirn.
But Cali had worked her way up from the bottom to become an executive–she’d seen all kinds of people.
Her heart had long turned to stone.
Plus, she never liked this kid.
“I can only help you call the police.”
She coldly pulled her shirt away from his grasp.
The nanny quickly rushed up, apologizing, “Sorry, sorry, he didn’t mean to offend. No need to call the police, we’ll leave right away.”
Cali sneered
“As long as you don’t disturb others, I don’t give a fuck if you want to stand here.”
With that, she opened the door and went inside.
She couldn’t care less about the commotion behind her.
But the truth was, she had called to make sure Gemma was safe.
“I was just yelling at him, he’s probably still crying now.”
She scratched her head. “Will you blame me?”
They were besties.
She was very disappointed with Gemma’s marriage, But since Gemma was still in it, she couldn’t exactly knock her out and drag her away, could she?
Even if she did, once Gemma came to her senses, she’d still go back to that pair of scoundrel father and son.
It wasn’t until more than a month ago that Gemma showed up at her door with a suitcase, saying she wanted a divorce.
Cali had never been happier.
Now, she was determined to remove any obstacles in the way of Gemma’s
Of course, she had been very fond of Ali at first.
But unfortunately…
divorce.
This child hadn’t inherited a single good trait from his mother. Instead, he had all the worst qualities of the Wilson family.
She had personally seen Alijah throw away the gift she gave him.
Then, he had complained to the nanny, “This bumpkin’s gift must be cheap. Get rid of it before Mabel gets mad.”
She had been ridiculed many times for her humble origins.
But she didn’t care.
Because she saw it as her journey, not a shameful past.
But Alijah…
She had always treated him like family.
She even planned to stay single her whole life and had already thought of him as her own child.

After that, she only had Gemma left as family
“If it were me, I’d probably do the same thing.” Gemma’s voice came through the phone slowly.
Cali froze.
“Gemma, are you really sure about this?”
Gemuna’s tone was calm, with no sign of forcing herself
“Yes, the bonds between people are always hard to balance.”
Cali laughed
“You’re still worrying about the wording, so I know you’ve really let go.
Gemma perked up. “How about dinner tomorrow!”
“Sure. I’ll pick you up from the hospital.”
Gemma nodded, smiling as she hung up the phone.
Turning, she saw Noah asleep with the art album in his arms.
She covered him with a blanket before heading out.
To her surprise, Cassius was sitting on the sofa in the small living room, reading the newspaper.
“Aren’t you going to bed?
Maybe it was because she was thinking about the album, but she felt a little awkward.
Cassius gave a noncommittal grunt in response.
He was always so distant.
It made her wonder if he was just impossible to get along with.
Gemma tried to make conversation. “Mr. Smith said you were angry.
Cassius paused, his hand still gripping the newspaper,
But he didn’t say anything.
Gemma took a couple of steps forward.
“Actually, are you here to check if I’ve been left with any psychological scars?”
Cassius expression faltered for a moment.
He hated being read so easily.
But now, he didn’t feel angry.
“I just think, with your medical skills, if anything happens to you, it would be a loss for the medical field”
“Shawn still needs you to see him, and Noah needs regular check–ups. You shouldn’t be acting out.”
His face was steril
He spoke like

Gemma, though she felt she had done nothing wrong, suddenly found herself looking down, feeling a bit guilty.
She explained, like a nervous schoolgirl.
“I didn’t mean to upset Ms. Garraway, I just… didn’t want to keep giving in.”
Surprised by her words, Cassius looked at her again.
“Some pasts are like nightmares to me, no matter how hard I try to ignore them, they still linger, hard to shake off.”
“The only way I can deal with them is to fight them.”
She had once lost all her dignity and grace in front of Margaret
