Chapter 65: Gemma Stroke Back, Dismantling the Scumbag’s Base
Even though Gemma couldn’t make out what Mabel was saying clearly, the piercing sound of her cry was impossible to ignore.
Gemma, calm as ever, subtly shifted closer to the car window, but the cries still rang crystal clear.
“Marcus, someone’s trying to take advantage of me. I’m drunk and trapped in the bathroom. What do I do?
They’re knocking on the door now!
There are so many of them!”
Marcus’s face darkened instantly
He pressed something, and the car began to slow down.
Sensing her moment, Gemma launched into her performance. Lowering her head, she twisted her fingers nervously.
She looked visibly uneasy.
Before Marcus could speak she opened the car door.
*Go ahead. I need a moment to calm down too.”
She wiped away non–existent tears
“It’s my fault. I am too hasty.”
Marcus had already decided to have her step out. Mabel’s last words before hanging up–the part about preferring death to humiliation–left him no choice.
He couldn’t just ignore it.
He thought he’d have to explain himself.
But to his surprise, Gemma didn’t cry or throw a fit.
Instead, she looked so understanding and pitiful that guilt crept over him.
Instinctively, he reached out to pull her into an embrace.
But Gemma, likely still upset, didn’t notice and gave no indication of wanting a hug
His hand froze mid–air just as his phone buzzed with another message.
[Marcus, maybe we’re just not meant to be. Let’s meet in our next life.]
His fleeting thoughts vanished, replaced by an urgency even he didn’t fully realize.
I’ll call you later and come pick you up,” he said quickly.
Gemma nodded, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. “Whatever you say.”
Before he could utter anything nauseating, she shut the car door swiftly.
The car’s soundproofing was excellent
She saw Marcus’s lips move but couldn’t hear a word he said as the car sped off.
Watching it disappear into the distance, she turned to the contract she had endured humiliation to secure. Finally, she exhaled deeply.
Marcus, you love playing games with people.
Then surely, you won’t mind being played with yourself.
With that, she hailed a cab and headed back to the Raven’s house. It’s story time!
That same night, news broke of Marcus and a famous actress spotted at a hotel, sparking dating rumors
However, it didn’t take long for someone to clarify–they were already married.
Within hours, the gossip had spread like wildfire.
Chapter 63: Gemma Stroke Bark, Dismantling the Scumbag’s Base
Even stray dogs on the street knew Marcus and Mabel had a secret marriage.
Meanwhile, Gemma, just entering the Wilsons‘ pharmaceutical division, could barely suppress her laughter.
She hoped Mabel could keep Marcus tangled up for a few more days.
To maintain appearances, she sent Marcus a text:
[I’m at the office. Just thinking about working in the same building as you makes me so happy.l
Her words were sweet, but her eyes were icy.
After handing the contract to the responsible party, she officially took charge of the pharmaceutical division.
Her first move? Selling the division’s vast herbal medicine fields at rock–bottom prices, Naturally, this sparked opposition from others in the department.
“The contract clearly states this department is under my control,” she said with indifference. “All my decisions represent Mr. Wilson, and any consequences are his responsibility.
Gemma then shrugged. “If you’re not happy, feel free to take it up with Mr. Wilson.”
With that, she left the crowd and moved on to her second step: dismantling the medicine production line and putting it up
auction
for
This maneuver sent shockwaves through the financial world.
Was Wilsons on the verge of bankruptcy?
Before the next day arrived, Wilsons‘ stock had already dropped by two points near the market’s close.
The company was in chaos.
But Marcus, the one who should’ve been stabilizing the situation, was nowhere to be found.
The frantic higher–ups called him repeatedly, only to be met with silence or outright rejection.
They were losing their minds.
Meanwhile, Gemma executed her third move,
She anonymously established a company and bought the herbal fields and production lines at the lowest prices.
This left the pharmaceutical division unable to fulfill this year’s orders, putting it on the brink of massive compensation payouts.
The department’s leadership was devastated.
Gemma, on the other hand, clocked out of work with a smile.
(Even if I didn’t see you, feeling the night breeze you’ve felt is like an embrace.
Then, she went home to continue her storytelling
The thought of cuddly, adorable Noah warmed her heart and soothed her soul.
Rewind to the previous night.
Marcus arrived at the hotel just in time to save Mabel, who was being cornered. After rescuing her, he insisted on taking her home.
Outside the hotel, Mabel clung to him, sobbing uncontrollably.
“Max, I thought I was going to die. I thought I’d never see you again,” she wailed
“Seven years ago, your mother told me to leave your life. I didn’t want to, but my father almost died because of it. I had no choice but to go abroad.
I didn’t know that after I left, you’d have problems with your eyes
Everyone thinks I abandoned you, but no one knows what I went through.”
Marcus stared at her, stunned.
This was news to him.
Stroke Back. Dismanding the Soundbag’s Base
But the more he thought about it, the more it made sense.
Back then, his mother had vehemently opposed their relationship.
Vet after Mabel returned, she was suddenly pleased with her.
For someone as stubborn as his mother, the only explanation was guilt.
“Marcus,” Mabel whispered.
“I came back for my father’s funeral, not to disrupt your life.
But I couldn’t help it. I thought if I could just see you once, that would be enough.
After one look, I got greedy. I wanted to have a meal with you, watch a movie…
Marcus, it’s my fault. I couldn’t control my heart.”
Her words tumbled out in a disjointed, illogical mess
“If you don’t get a divorce, I won’t have any improper thoughts again
But you did get a divorce!
Marcus, does this mean I still have a chance?
Can we start over?”
She didn’t bring up the truth revealed in court yesterday
And Marcus didn’t explain.
“You’re drunk. Let’s get you home,” he said, his tone soft and patient.
Mabel had tipped off the paparazzi in advance. There was no way she’d leave without putting on a show,
Throwing her arms around his neck, she cried dramatically.
“Marcus, we lost six years. Do you know how I survived those endless days and nights?
I know you’re still angry about how Heft. Please, give me a chance to make it up to you.”
As she spoke, she leaned in to kiss him.
Marcus turned his head, letting her lips brush his check instead.
The mix of her perfume and the scent of alcohol overwhelmed his senses, clouding his thoughts.
In that moment, he even forgot about picking up Grumma.
Mabel, genuinely tipsy, lost her grip and stumbled.
Without thinking. Marcus caught her.
