Chapter 37: She Had Become Another Little Sun
“Sorry.”
She suddenly realized, “Do you have any allergic food?”
“No, no,” Noah covered his mouth and chuckled, then elbowed Cassius playfully.
“Right, Uncle Cassius?”
Cassius pressed his lips together, not confirming or denying
Gemma felt awkward.
Great, a dinner invitation and I end up serving something he can’t eat.
“Please, sit down.”
Cassius spoke slowly just as she was wondering if she should take something else for him.
He gentlemanly pulled out Gemma’s chair for her, while he himself took the seat at the head of the table..
The guest was playing second fiddle!
But no one thought it was strange.
He had this natural king–like presence that made everyone feel like he should be the one calling the shots. Noah was acting weird today. Usually, he couldn’t stand Cassius, but now, he was happily scooping porridge. “Uncle Cassius, have some! You don’t enjoy Gemma’s cooking?”
Cassius didn’t say a word.
He never ate any mushrooITIS.
Because he thought they smelled.. weird.
Almost as soon as Noah pushed the porridge over to him, his brows furrowed slightly.
“Uh, Mr. Cassius, I also made some nut milk, you..!
“Gemma, Uncle Cassius is allergic to nuts, Noah said, seriously making things up.
Gemma bought it. “Well, I…”
Cassius raised a hand, gently stirring the steaming porridge.
His nearly perfect handsome face was expressionless, the scent of bitter men’s aftershave mingling with his breath. His movement paused slightly.
He slowly took a spoonful of porridge.
Still, no expression.
Noah stared, wide–eyed.
This was his Uncle Cassius?
Was he possessed by an alien?
“Uncle Cassius?”
The little head tilted, eyes full of confusion.
Then, he saw his super picky Uncle Cassius take another sip.
His eyes went even wider.
Gemma felt a little embarrassed, “Mr. Cassius, what do you think of the taste?”
Cassius nodded slightly, “Not bad ”
Noah looked like he’d been struck by lightning-
Uncle Cassius didn’t hate mushrooms anymore!
His taste was that random?
Chapter 87: She Had Become Another Little Sun
Was all his earlier “kindness” for nothing?
No, wait….
His eyes flicked back and forth between Uncle Cassius and Gemma.
But…
They were eating in silence, not even making eye contact.
Awwwww
Totally wrong
Nothing like those TV shows.
He thought he would have auntie soon!
Gemma had thought Cassius might be avoiding mushrooms, and him drinking a little was already being polite.
But to her surprise, he finished the whole bowl!
“Mr. Cassius, would you like another bowl?”
Cassius naturally handed his bowl over. “Thank you.”
Gemma hurried to scoop him more porridge.
Then, with all the beautiful, flavorful dishes, he slowly finished his second bowl.
Noah was speechless.
He’d lost all interest in teasing Uncle Cassius.
Because, honestly, this mushroom porridge was so good.
He ate so fast and almost bit his tongue.
“Gemma, one more!”
The three of them finished all the food.
Gemma was amazed
If it weren’t for Mr. Cassius being all–powerful, she might’ve thought they hadn’t eaten in eight days. After the meal, Cassius received a phone call.
His expression shifted slightly.
Then he looked at Gemma.
“Dr. Kelestine, I need a favor.”
“Huh?” Gemma, cleaning up the kitchen, popped her head out, her face bright with a smile. “What is it?”
“Tommy’s.” Cassius seemed unsure how to explain, pausing before continuing, “girlfriend is about to give birth.”
She’s not a vet!
Noah understood what a girlfriend was, but what did “about to give birth” even mean?
By the doghouse in the estate.
Tommy was anxiously tending to the white Samoyed dog
The dog’s belly was huge, lying on its side, crying out in pain, tears streaming from its eyes.
Gemma and the others arrived to find this scene.
The butler reported.
“When Tommy brought the white dog back, we didn’t think much of it. It was only when the maid noticed something was wrong that we realized. Tommy got himself in trouble.”
For a moment, Gemma couldn’t find the right words for this news.
Definitely in “trouble“.
Chapter 37 She Had Become Another Little Sun
The puppy was coming.
Cassius just grunted, looking at her. “Think you can help?”
Gemma braced herself
She was the only one here who had any medical knowledge.
“Let’s give it a try, but get the vet here ASAP
She was a surgeon, not an obstetrician.
And, well, this “patient” was a different species entirely.
She crouched down, carefully checking the Samoyed.
After the exam, she took out the labor–inducing injection she had prepared earlier and started to help the dog give birth The dog, clearly in pain, had lost most of its strength. She had to use a silver needle to help it must
Suddenly!
She felt something sticky in her hand.
A soft little puppy fell into her palm.
The birth of this tiny life made her heart soften a little
“So beautiful.”
She quickly took care of the little one, placing it in a cotton basket.
After confirming there was no second puppy inside, she began stitching up the Samoyed’s torn area.
By the time she finished, the sun had set.
all its energy.
The three of them, uneasy, sat on a long wooden bench by the estate, watching Tommy care for the little white dog. And the “love child” lay beside them.
“What should we name it?” Noah asked, grabbing Gemma’s hand. “Gemma, you name it.”
Gemma looked over at Cassius. “Tommy is Mr. Cassius’s dog, and Tommy’s puppy is also Mr. Cassius’s… dog. I think Mr. Cassius should name it.”
Cassius was still as aloof as ever, his handsome face expressionless and cold, his usual silence intact.
But his eyes were fixed on Gemma’s slightly flushed face, the little bun in her hair giving her an extra fresh look
Noah snorted, “He was bad at naming things. Gemma, you do it.”
“Candy.”
Cassius spoke slowly.
Noah instantly rolled his eyes.
“What kind of stupid name is that? Gemma, don’t you think so?”
Gemma, having been the one to deliver the puppy, knew it was a girl. But Cassius hadn’t touched the dog or even looked closely.
How did he pick such a perfect name?
She paused, feeling that maybe Cassius wasn’t as cold as he seemed.
Maybe he was actually a very thoughtful and warm person.
“It’s a good name,” she smiled, reaching down to gently touch the sleeping puppy. “Candy, you have a name now. Are you happy?”
The setting sun bathed her in golden light.
It was like she had become another little suILI.
