Chapter 36: Mr. Cassius‘ Taste was Quite Special
Gemma was about to grab a cab home when she noticed there were over a dozen black luxury cars outside.
The door of the front car immediately opened, and the driver stepped out to open the back door for her.
“Ms. Kelestine, please.”
Gemma was confused.
Noah happily chimed in, “Gemma, hop in! We’re going out to eat!”
Although her apartment was nice, a lineup of limited–edition luxury cars parked outside would definitely draw attention.
She felt a bit of unease.
After hesitating for a moment, Cassius came out.
“Not fond of the car?”
He immediately ordered someone to
to arrange a different one.
Gemma quickly waved her hand, signaling that the car was perfectly fine.
But then, she looked behind. “Strange, where’s Brian?”
Cassius remained calm. “He had something urgent to take care of”
“I see
Gemma sighed, thinking she’d have to thank Brian another time.
“Let’s go.”
Cassius gor into the car first.
Noah hopped off her arms, tugging at her arm to get her into the car.
Cassius‘ presence was overwhelming, and even with Noah in between them, Gemma still felt the weight of his aura. Thankfully, Noah was like a natural buffer.
He curled up
up in her
lap, small and soft like a little kitten
“Gemma, tell me a story.”
Gemma asked, “Which one?”
“I like all the ones you tell.”
“Alright… how about The Seven–Colored Flower?”
Noah’s eyes sparkled. “Mm–hmml”
She often told stories to Alijah, so this was easy for her.
Her voice was gentle, like a calm spring, flowing and soothing.
A slight breeze came through the crack in the window, tousling her long hair.
A few strands flew across Cassius‘ cheek.
His cool, indifferent eyes slowly turned toward her.
The sunlight outside was perfect, casting a soft glow on her profile, highlighting her delicate features.
Her soft voice…
It was oddly soothing, almost hypnotic.
Noah yawned, found a comfy spot, and quickly drifted to sleep.
Cassius leaned against the window, and closed his eyes.
After finishing the story, an eerie quiet filled the car.
She glanced over at Cassius.
When he slept, his long, thick lashes covered the dark circles under his eyes.
His sharp nose and slightly pursed lips softened his usual intense demeanor. At that moment, he didn’t look cold, sinister, or bloodthirsty.
He actually looked… peacefully beautiful.
Brooke, the driver, caught this through the rearview mirror and froze.
Mr. Cassius never slept well.
With his upbringing, he didn’t trust anything enough to fall asleep in an unfamiliar place.
Now, seeing Cassius asleep so peacefully,
He couldn’t help but admire Gemma.
She truly was a miracle doctor.
She could weave stories into a form of therapy.
If it weren’t for driving, Brooke might have even bowed to her in respect.
Gemma, unaware of Brooke’s thoughts, started to feel sleepy herself.
About ten minutes later, they arrived at Gemma’s rented apartment,
The space here wa
was so small that even Cassius‘ bedroom in his mansion could be bigger.
But he didn’t show any sign of displeasure.
Instead, he asked, “Need any help?”
Noah pouted and rolled his eyes. “Uncle Cassius, do you only talk? Of course, you need to help!”
He pushed Cassius toward the kitchen.
The kitchen was already cramped, and when Cassius entered, it felt even smaller.
The space was filled with a pleasant woody scent that seemed to follow him
“No, no need. I can handle it.”
Gemma felt a little flustered.
Cassius took the bowl of veggies from her hands. “I’ll wash them.”
His tone was warm, completely different from his usual intimidating self.
Before she knew it, he had taken the bowl from her and turned on the faucet.
His long fingers delicately rubbed the leaves, the motion oddly pleasant to watch. “Not washed well?”
Cassius glanced at her, noticing her stare.
“It’s fine. Just seems like it’s your first time doing this.”
Cassius raised an eyebrow. “Are you looking down on first–timers?”
What?
How dare shel?
She quickly shook her head.
“I just meant… it seems so easy f
for you
you
take care of Noah.”
He didn’t need to cook or figure out recipes.
People’s lives are so different.
“So, I don’t think Noah and I are close.”
Chapter 36: Mr. Cassius Thute was Quite Special
Cassius seemed genuinely curious. “How do you always… get Noah to like you?”
Gemma paused.
She didn’t actually think Noah didn’t like Cassius.
She thought their interaction worked fine.
“There are many ways to be liked. Why do you assume Noah doesn’t like you?”
“And…
She took the vegetables and started chopping them.
The faint “swoosh of the knife made her voice sound even softer.
“You should talk to Noah about your issues, not ask me.
Cassius frowned. “He understands?”
Then, his face darkened. “Doesn’t matter. His affection isn’t important. Just want him to grow up fine.”
Gemma suddenly pur down the knife. “Look down for a second.”
Cassius was confused.
But he complied, lowering his head.
“Do you see it?”
See what?
Gemma pointed at the water in the wash basin where his reflection was visible.
“Doesn’t it look like you’re feeling a little… pitiful?”
Cassius immediately pulled back from the sink.
Pitiful? Him?
He quickly left the kitchen.
Noah, who had been playing with Legos outside, saw him and immediately made a face,
“Uncle Cassius, you chickened out! You can’t cook!”
“You asking for it?”
Noah wasn’t afraid at all.
“I’m here because Gemma likes me, Uncle Cassius. What do
Cassius actually stopped to think for a moment.
you
have?”
But he didn’t come up with anything.
By then, Gemma had already brought out the first dish.
Then, the second, third….
In just half an hour, she had made six dishes and a soup.
“Mr. Cassius, Noah, time to eat.”
Noah immediately ran to wash his hands and then rushed back, pointing at the soup. “Gemma, what’s this?”
“Mushroom soup with my special herbs.”
When Gemma invited them to eat, she naturally had to take care of her “savior.”
Cassius had taken some of her medicine earlier, so she added herbs to the congee that complemented her prescription.
Noah suddenly started laughing and covered his mouth.
“Uncle Cassius, you better eat more of that!”
Gemma sensed something was off but couldn’t quite figure out what.
