Chapter 35: Mr. Cassius Chased Away the Rival.
The words came out of nowhere.
It wasn’t even clear who he was talking to
But since he was looking directly at Gemma, it made people start to wonder.
“Hasn’t Mr. Wilson always liked Mabel?”
“Did I get that wrong?”
“Maybe
e rumors aren’t true. That’s how the tabloid gossip is.
the
“Yeah, people say Mabel is Mrs. Wilson, and she even had a son for him!”
“They say they’ve been secretly married. That boy and Mabel are super close–if he wasn’t her real son, would they be that close?”
There were whispers of doubt all around.
Mabel immediately felt her heart race.
She didn’t care about what people said, but she cared about Marcus’s reaction.
It was obvious.
The moment Gemma was recognized by the public, Marcus’s gaze shifted.
Others didn’t know, but Mabel could tell that all these years of keeping their marriage a secret was because Gemma’s identity wasn’t decent enough for the Wilsons.
But now things were different.
Gemma was getting recognition from the medical community, and even the Wilsons would feel proud of her.
If Gemma made a request, the Wilsons would be more than happy to acknowledge their marriage.
The “secret marriage” and “happiest Mrs. Wilson” image Mabel had carefully crafted would go up in smoke, and she could. even be labeled as the “other woman,”
So, while everyone was gossiping, she quickly ran down the stage and stood in front of Marcus
“Are we leaving now? But there are still things that need to be settled.”
Her voice was soft, and she gently tugged at Marcus’s sleeve, showing just how close they were.
Her sudden interruption made Gemma breathe a sigh of relief.
To be honest, she had already filed for divorce, and she really didn’t want anything to do with Marcus anymore.
Then, she turned to Brian. “Brian, I’m sorry for what happened.”
Brian smiled slightly; he had never blamed her.
Marcus, however, didn’t even get a glance. His eyes darkened.
Earlier, he wanted to announce the marriage, partly to give Gemma some closure.
He had planned to explain things to Wilson as well.
But no
now, Gemma seemed to think she could continue throwing a tantrum just because of her moment in the spotlight. Did she really think he’d drop everything and beg her to come back?
She was really overestimating herself.
He slowly shifted his gaze and looked down at Mabel. “Someone will help you clean this up.”
Mabel almost broke out in a cold sweat, but thankfully, things turned out as she hoped.
She immediately flashed a shy sinile. “All right then, Ali, let’s go.”
She grabbed Alijah’s hand.
Alijah’s eyes were locked on Noah.

That little bastard was holding his mom’s hand.
And she hadn’t even pushed him away!
His mom actually rubbed that kid’s head.
And the little bastard actually looked all cute, rubbing his face against her palm
It felt like something precious had been stolen from him.
Without thinking, he was about to rush over and punch Noah
But his hand was grabbed by Mabel, and the next moment, he was lifted up.
He heard Mabel’s teasing voice in his ear.
“Max, didn’t you bring Ali a mask? He’s just recovering, and his immune system is still weak.”
That snapped him out of his anger.
His mom might not be the unknown nobody she used to be, but she still wasn’t as famous as Mabel.
If she was willing to come back and cook for him, fine, but he’d never let her take him to school.
Thinking that, he immediately clung to Mabel’s neck.
“Mabel, I want steak.”
“Sure, let’s go eat.
Mabel was eager: to leave and tugged on Marcus’s sleeve. “Max, I know a popular music–themed restaurant. Want to check it
Marcus had been waiting for Gemma to soften, for her to come running to him, begging him not to leave.
He would’ve reluctantly given her an out
But now, Gemma was still standing there, talking to Brian, answering Cassius’s questions.
She seemed so busy that she couldn’t spare him a single glance.
His anger
flared.
If she was going to act like this, he’d make sure that being Mrs. Wilson would be harder to achieve than climbing a
mountain
“Fine, let’s go!”
He turned to Mabel, deliberately saying it loud enough.
According to his plan, after walking a few steps, Gemma would regret it and come running to him, crying.
But even as he was heading out of the venue, Gemma was still chatting with those judges, completely ignoring him. Well!
Very well!
Gemma Kelestine, you’ve really got some guts!
His pace quickened, furious. Even if Gemma changed her mind now, she’d never catch up to him.
But in the end, he was wrong.
After dealing with the judges” “pop quiz,” Gemma was all smiles as she sent those important people off.
She didn’t even remember she had a “soon–to–be ex–husband.”
The competition was based on points, and since she and Brian had forfeited the practical part, they didn’t place well. But thanks to Mr. Gray, her popularity was even higher than the first–place winner’s.
“Gemma, are you done? Can we go eat now?”
Noah tugged on her hand, his little voice full of hunger. “I’m so hungry.”

His sweet, innocent tone was impossible to resist.
Gemma bent down and picked him up. “What do you want to eat?”
“I want Gemma’s fried rice.”
“Just that?”
“Also, I want Gemma’s grilled fish.”
“Of course!”
She smiled, gently tapping his nose, but then it hit her. She was still in front of Noah’s actual guardian.
“Mr. Cassius, is it okay if Noah stays with me for a bit? I promise I’ll bring him back before dark.”
Brian also spoke up. “Tll help take care of him. Mr. Cassius, don’t worry.
Cassius was about to nod, but after Brian finished speaking, his brow furrowed, and a trace of displeasure appeared on his
face.
Noah asked seriously.
“Gemma, can you cook for Uncle Cassius too? He hasn’t eaten.”
Gemma was shocked,
Did Noah seriously think Cassius would like her home–cooked meals!
Cassius, the guy who was used to eating the finest delicacies in the world?
Noah’s eyes welled
up with tears. “Gemma, can’t Uncle Cassius eat it?”
Gemma quickly snapped out of her thoughts.
“Of course, but I don’t know if Mr. Cassius would like it.”
Cassius’s displeasure vanished immediately, replaced by his usual aloof demeanor.
“No problem.”
“If you think it’s not good enough, I’ll…”
Gemma thought she misheard.
She looked at him, surprised.
“I’ll go home and prepare. Does Mr. Cassius have any favorite dishes?”
“I’m fine with anything.”
“Okay, I mean, sure.”
She quickly carried Noah and walked out the door.
Brian was about to follow when Cassius suddenly asked, “Dr. Read not busy?”
“No… ah?”
Before Brian could finish, his phone rang. Looking at it, he saw it was a call from the hospital.
