Chapter 27: All I Want Is Mom, Bring Her Back
“Does Max really need to say all this?”
“You said you wanted a divorce, but now you’re secretly sending food to him and Ali. Isn’t that your little trick?”
“You’re so capricious, no wonder Max can’t stand you.”
Mabel sneered, her eyes full of contempt as she glared at Gemma.
Gemma couldn’t believe that a simple meal could cause this much trouble..
“Ms. Johnson should know the law,” Gemma said coolly. “Marcus and I are still married, so whether I’m cooking for him or trying to reconcile, that’s between us. Who are you to question me?”
“Do you want me to record this? So your fans can see what a mistress looks like?”
Mabel’s face turned red with fury.
When she saw Gemma pull out her phone and start recording, her jaw clenched so hard it seemed like her teeth might break.
“Fine, you win this round!”
“But I warn you, no matter what you do, Max wor
won’t give you a second glancel” Gemma smirked. “Then you’d better get him a blindfold.”
You–l
Mabel pointed at her, teeth gritted. “We’ll see about that!”
With that, she turned on her heel and stormed out.
Even though Gemma had gotten the upper hand, she didn’t feel victorious.
Instead, she was irritated.
She might not care about Marcus, but she couldn’t just ignore Ali.
Mabel had made her confront the reality of the situation.
*Gemma,” Brian said, noticing her lack of enthusiasm. After a pause, he spoke gently, “Are you still going to the surgery training?”
Gemma snapped out of her thoughts, quickly trying to pull herself together.
“Yeah, of course.”
Yesterday was over; tomorrow was a new day.
She couldn’t let emotions control her.
The training room was full of bones, fake organs, and a mountain of reference books.
She walked over to the surgical area to continue practicing her speed and precision.
Meanwhile, Brian had walked over to the bookshelf and pulled out a book he’d been reading. “Gemma, can you grab that
for me?
“Sure
Gemma took the book from him and glanced at the text.
“Fathers and daughters, mothers and sons, it’s all just a cycle. It means your bond with him is only for this lifetime, watching his back as he slowly walks away from you, until he disappears around the corner.
He tell you with his back, no need to chase after him.”
A shaver ran through her.
She suddenly understood.
Even a bond as close as that of a mother and child was, in the end, just one more farewell along the journey of life.
Her divorce with Marcus was just another test in Ali’s growth.
Chapter 27. All I Want Is Mom, Bring Her Back
She felt an overwhelming sense of relief, as if a weight had been lifted.
She turned around, only to find Brian looking at her softly.
She felt a little embarrassed. “Brian, thanks for this.”
Brian took the book back and placed it on the shelf. He gently patted her shoulder.
“You’re the one who helped me with the book, so I should be thanking you.”
He knew everything, but never spoke it out.
Gemma turned her face away, pretending to adjust her hair, but really, she was wiping away the tear that had escaped from the corner of her eye.
“What I meant was, I’ve got some surgical questions for you later. Just wanted to say thanks in advance.”
Brian’s smile was soft, and his eyes sparkled with warmth.
That evening.
Ali lay on the bed, clutching his stomach and writhing in pain.
“It hurts…”
Cold sweat dripped down his forehead.
He felt like he was going to throw up, but couldn’t.
He was in so much pain, and he couldn’t even speak properly, just crying nonstop.
Marcus had called in a team of experts to examine him. The final conclusion was… he had overeaten.
“He should move around a bit.”
“Don’t drink any more water for now.”
“Rub his stomach gently, clockwise.”
Ali cried himself out, lying on the bed, groaning.
Marcus was both annoyed and heartbroken.
“How did this happen? He’s never had this issue before!”
The doctor wiped the sweat off his forehead.
“He caught a cold, which weakened his stomach. He needs a light diet–no greasy or processed foods,”
He said it diplomatically.
But when he saw the McDonald’s wrappers on the floor, he could only shake his head.
Eating this while sick?
His parents really didn’t know any better.
If he didn’t know Marcus only had one son, he’d swear they were trying to poison the kidl.
Marcus suddenly remembered the meals Gemma had sent over–simple but cleverly shaped like little animals.
If Ali saw that, he’d love it
Is there any quicker way to make him feel better?”
He glanced at the delivery boxes from the restaurant, his frustration mounting. Hearing Ali’s cries again just shattered his patience.
After a quick discussion, the doctors decided to induce vomiting.
Soon, the room was filled with the sound of Ali vomiting, the stench almost unbearable.
Marcus furrowed his brow.
He’d even gotten some of the mess on himself.
Chapter 27: All I Want In Mom, Bring Her Bark
The smell was atrocious
His patience snapped, and he took a few steps back, disgusted, letting Ali be sick on his own.
“Daddy..
Ali’s face was pale, his eyes full of tears. “I want some water.”
His mouth was bitter, and all he wanted was to rinse it out.
When he’d been sick before, his mom was always there, preparing a cup for him to rinse and drink from.
She’d gently rub his stomach, making him feel better.
班
“You can have water once you’re done throwing up.” Marcus‘ voice was harsh, irritation clear.
All felt even more miserable.
Tears dripped from his eyes, soaking the sheets.
Suddenly, he missed his mom so much.
He never realized how bad it fellt to have hamburgers while being sick. Mom had been right to stop him from eating junk.
Sniffling, he thought, “I won’t blame her anymore. Mom, come back.”
His stomach churned even more, and bile threatened to come up.
Marcus hired a part–time cleaner to deal with the mess in the room.
The cleaner nearly passed out from the stench-
“This isn’t going to cut it, you need to pay more or I’m not doing it,” the cleaner grumbled.
Marcus agreed to a $100 tip, but the cleaner was clearly displeased.
Marcus‘ mood worsened.
No matter how bad Ali had been sick before, Gemma never made him deal with the mess.
And strangely, even though the cleaner had been there for a while, the room still smelled awful,
When Ali had been sick before, there was never any lingering smell.
Marcus‘ frown deepened, frustration almost consuming him.
“Daddy, Mom brought me food again today. Does she miss me? I want to see Mom.”
“Daddy, I’m going to find Mom. I want her.”
After throwing up, Ali was pale and weak, unable to move.
“You sta
stay in bed and rest. I’ll go get her.”
Marcus stood still, thinking for a moment.
It wasn’t that hard, right? He could d go get her, just this once, to make Ali happy.
He decided, “I’ll do it for Ali Just this once.”
