Chapter 172: The Inferior Genes from Mom
Gemma’s heart twitched.
She instinctively assumed something had happened to Alijah.
As his mother.
She could ignore how the Wilson family raised their child.
But she couldn’t remain indifferent to matters of life and death.
So she followed the commotion into the emergency building.
There, she saw Margaret shielding Mabel behind her.
Margaret, always arrogant, now looked flustered.
Her tone lacked its usual coldness.
Beside her, Alijah clung tightly to her coat hem.
But Margaret paid no attention to whether the boy was scared, still threatening the bodyguards.
“My son only listens to me! If you dare lay a finger on me, I’ll ensure you regret it!”
The bodyguards immediately backed off.
Mabel’s voice quivered with fake tears.
“Margaret, I never thought Max could be so heartless.”
“I’d be fine raising this child alone if he wants to reconcile with Gemma…”
Margaret was visibly furious.
“Any child of the Wilson family must be raised in the Wilson home!”
“Reconciliation? Hah! Not while I can breathel”
“Mom!”
Marcus couldn’t stay silent any longer, striding forward.
The bodyguards retreated further.
“The only woman I’ll have children with is Gemmal”
“In other words, I only acknowledge Gemma’s children!”
Alijah’s head snapped up at this, eyes brightening.
Earlier, his grandmother had lectured him about surrendering everything to his future brother.
He’d felt crushed but too scared to argue.
Now, with his father’s support, he wouldn’t have to sacrifice everything.
Gemma was speechless.
Was having his baby like winning the lottery or something?
What cursed luck she had!
How embarrassing!
She’d definitely be the joke at the hospital tomorrow.
Why was it always her who had to suffer the consequences of these insane bossy remarks?
Shiiiiit! She just wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear.
Margaret’s face was flushed with anger, practically ready to strangle Marcus.
“I’ve told you so many times, Max, a big family is a blessing!”
“You only want Gemma’s kid?”
“I gave her a chance to come back, to have kids and raise them properly, but she refused to stay at home full–time!”
Marcus quickly glanced at Gemma, panic flashing in his eyes.
Gemma wasn’t angry at all. She’d long grown used to the bizarre, and frankly, it wasn’t worth getting worked up over.
She felt relieved.
She’d escaped this crazy circus.
Margaret might look fashionable and modern, but her old–fashioned views were scarier than anything you’d find in a mountain village.
Seeing Gemma calm, Marcus finally relaxed, his voice cold as he spoke.

Chapter 172: The Inferior Genes from Mom
“Gemma and I are getting back together. There will be more kids. Don’t worry.”
“So, I won’t allow anyone else to have my child!”
He motioned for the bodyguard to grab Mabel and take her to the private hospital for an abortion.
But Mabel quickly darted behind Margaret, pretending to sob loudly.
Margaret was even angrier.
“Max, you’ve really disappointed me. Putting aside whether or not you and Gemma will get back together, what about the child?”
“You don’t have to be with Mabel, but that baby must be born.”
“Otherwise, don’t even bother calling me ‘Mom.‘ I’ll just raise my grandchild to take over.”
Marcus’s forehead was twitching with veins, “Mom!”
Margaret sneered. “From now on, Mabel’s staying with me.”
“If anything happens to her or the baby, you know the consequences.”
She grabbed Mabel’s wrist. “Come on, let’s go to the old house.”
Mabel was surprised.
She thought being kicked out of the apartment meant she was on her own.
But now, it looked like she’d found a long–term sponsor.
And she’d be living in the old house!
Gemma never got this treatment.
Her child would probably be more highborn than Alijah.
So proud of herself, she forgot to even check on Alijah.
And there he was, left behind, looking lost with tears welling up in his eyes.
“Dad…”
“You have a new baby, you won’t want me anymore?”
Marcus, seeing the resemblance to Gemma in his son’s face, felt his heart twist.
He rushed over and lifted him into his arms.
“No, you’re my most important child. I’ll always, and only recognize you.”
“Even if I have more kids later, they’ll be your mom’s, and you’ll grow up together, side by side.”
His tone was soft, the opposite of the harsh words he’d just spoken.
As he spoke, his gaze searched for Gemma, but she was nowhere to be found.
He sighed, resigned.
Take it slow.
“Dad, if it’s a baby from mom, do I have to give up all my toys?”
Marcus wasn’t fully focused, so he just answered casually.
“Yeah, he’s younger, so you should share. You’ll be the big brother, so set an example and stop being so naughty.”
Alijah’s world seemed to crumble.
In his young mind, it was clear:
if there was a new baby in the house–whether it was mom’s or not–it would take everything from him.
He couldn’t let that baby be born!
There could only be one kid… and it had to be him!
“Dad, when is Mabel gonna have a baby?”
Marcus snapped back to reality. “She’s not having one.”
Alijah froze for a second, then looked at him, confused.
But soon enough, the little guy got what he meant.
Mabel’s not bad, actually.
But when he heard she couldn’t have kids, he was honestly kinda relieved.
“Dad, I’m hungry. I didn’t eat breakfast.”
Marcus frowned. “Nanny didn’t make you some?”
There were several nannies who were responsible for taking care of Alijah, and they were good at different areas, and they could almost do different recipes every week.
