Chapter 158 The Chocolates Are All Heart–Shaped
Mabel cried until she was exhausted.
She collapsed on the sofa.
Her hair was a mess, her face streaked with tears, and her clothes slightly disheveled–she looked utterly wretched.
Marcus snapped out of his thoughts and looked at her in this state, feeling nothing but disgust.
He didn’t want to say anything and turned to leave.
Mabel immediately reached out to grab him.
“Where are you going?”
Her voice was hoarse.
It sounded unpleasant.
His brow furrowed again.
He was filled with displeasure.
“You should calm down too. I’ll come see you tomorrow.”
After saying this, he paused.
The words felt familiar.
He used to say this to Gemma often.
Gemma, like Mabel now, would have her angry eyes gradually grow hollow.
He instinctively reached out to support Mabel.
But then he felt he shouldn’t soften.
He quickly let go.
Mabel seemed hurt by his earlier words and didn’t make a scene anymore.
She just accepted it quietly.
He didn’t know what was wrong with him, but he actually felt a twinge of guilt.
e
*Aside from the position of Mrs. Wilson, I can fulfill any other request, Mabel. Don’t make this difficult for me.”
Mabel didn’t respond.
She just sat there on the sofa, lifeless.
Like a speechless puppet.
He even felt the air around him grow oppressive.
Just like during all those arguments with Gemma over the years.
He couldn’t help but want to escape.
“Call me if you need anything.”
He fled in a hurry.
The door slammed shut behind him.
Mabel snapped out of her daze.
She raised her hand and gently wiped away her tears.
She had been too idealistic.
If this had happened the year she first returned to the country, she believed Marcus would have done anything for her.
But now, Marcus protecting her life was already the best she could hope for.
After this incident, she would likely end up like Gemma.
She had to start planning ahead.
Derick returned to the hospital.
Pamela had cried herself unconscious and was resting in a ward.
William had his blood drawn for tests, but the results weren’t back yet, so it was unclear if he had contracted any diseases.
Derick stood at the door, closed it, and looked at William, who was sleeping
His eldest son had never been close to him. Even when he tried to mend their relationship, Cassius remained indifferent, so he eventually gave up.

Later, when Pamela gave birth to his younger son, his paternal affection found a new outlet, and he cared even less about Cassius.
Cassius had earned the position of vice president at Raven Group through his own merits.
William, on the other hand, had been spoiled by him and was too naive to compete with Cassius.
So, Derick had been scheming to see
secure benefits for his younger son.
For years, he had been planning to force Cassius out.
But the people at the company weren’t fools. They relied on Cassius to make money and didn’t want to lose their cash cow.
Now that he had forcefully dismissed Cassius, many in the company were discontent.
If he couldn’t deliver results, they might call a shareholders‘ meeting and demand Cassius’s return.
That would be a huge blow to his pride.
He rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on as he thought about the stock issues Cassius had mentioned.
After the divorce was made public, his influence in the company had weakened even further.
“Dad.”
William woke up.
When he saw Derick, he tried to sit up.
But…
His ass hurt too much.
He grimaced in pain.
Derick quickly walked over. “Don’t move around.”
“Dad, this is definitely Gemma’s doing. I want her dead!”
Derick’s veins bulged as he remembered the humiliation he had suffered at the estate. He wanted that bitch dead too!
“Don’t worry, I’ll definitely avenge you. For now, focus on recovering. I’ll handle everything else.”
“Just killing her isn’t enough!” William’s face twisted with rage. “Her family needs to be destroyed too!”
Derick agreed without hesitation.
“Sure!”
Come to think of it, he hadn’t actually looked into Gemma’s family.
There was a knock at the door, and they both composed themselves before allowing the person to enter.
It was Kaspar.
He brought news.
“Marcus, the CEO of Wilson Group, wants to meet with you.”
Derick understood.
“It’s probably about that bitch Mabel.”
In his opinion, that woman deserved to be torn to pieces.
But he had been too busy to deal with her yet,
Fortunately, he had investigated Mabel’s background before using her, so he knew why Marcus was seeking him out.
He initially didn’t want to meet, but then he reconsidered. Mabel might be insignificant, but Marcus was the head of Wilson Group.
His expression darkened. “Tell him to wait for me in the lounge.”
After Kaspar left, William slammed his hand on the hospital bed in anger.
“Dad, are you just going to let this go? If it weren’t for Mabel, we wouldn’t have had to resort to such methods! I wouldn’t be in this state!”
Denck narrowed his eyes.
“Don’t worry, I have everything under control.”
William continued to curer and rant.
Derick had no choice but to explain. “The Wilson family is wealthy, and that wealth happens to serve a purpose for me. Just wait, I’ll give you the justice you deserve.”
Gerruna had just started her shift when she was called for an emergency consultation.
She admitted an elderly patient.
The man was 75 years old and had suffered a heart attack. If he had been brought in any later, he might not have made it.
The family’s nanny had called the ambulance.

However, the old man also had a history of strokes. While it wasn’t critical now, he needed IV treatment.

After prescribing the treatment, Gemma was surprised when the old man refused the u
She had to step in personally.
The old man seemed to have found someone to boss around, demanding she fetch tea and water for him.
Gemma knew that patients like this needed a sense of companionship, so she decided to stay in the room for a while.
She would return to her office only when necessary.
By the end of the day, she was exhausted and aching all over.
Brian had bought milkshakes and chocolates for everyone in the department.
He personally delivered hers.

“After what happened at the banquet, I had to focus on damage control and didn’t get to introduce you to Gresham right away. Don’t be mad.”
The chocolates were all heart–shaped.
Wrapped in pink packaging.
They were a delight to look at.
Even the milkshake was a sugar–free version.
He really understood women’s desire to stay slim and avoid weight gain.
“I’m not mad.”
Gemma took the milkshake. She was genuinely tired and took a few sips through the straw.
Then she continued.
“Still, I’m surprised at how well you handled the PR. There’s no negative news at all.”
Brian remained as gentle as ever, a smile playing on his lips.
“I’ll take that as a compliment,” he said, placing the chocolates on her desk.
“Dr. Gresham is giving a lecture at our hospital soon. He’ll have about half an hour free.”
*I’m trying to arrange a meeting with his assistant, Hector. Hopefully, he’ll agree to see us.”
