Chapter 135: Wanting to Propose to the Girl He Loves
He was practically glowing with anticipation.
His eyes were full of love.
It was as if he was looking at the one and only treasure in the world.
His whole being was radiating with the urge to hold her in the palm of his hand, keep her close, never let her go.
Gemma met his gaze and felt a sticky, suffocating unease, forcing a smile. “I’m happy.”
“Come with me. There’s something else that’ll make you even happier.”
Gemma’s face darkened. What other bizarre stunt was this guy going to pull?
Inside the hotel’s Crystal Dream Hall.
The hall was filled with roses.
The lights danced.
It cast a glow on the flowers that seemed to bloom within the crystal itself–like something out of a dream.
The air was filled with the delicate scent of roses, refreshing and soothing.
After the light show.
A host in a black suit appeared on stage.
“Today, we have a gentleman here. He told me he’s turned his life around. He’s deeply in love, and that he wanted to make things right.”
“But I think,” he continued, “instead of dwelling on the past, it’s better to look to the future.”
“So this man wants to propose to the girl he loves.”
“He is his light, his everything.”
“No matter what happens, he promises to never leave her, not even until the last moment of his life.”
“Let’s welcome him now, and let him bring his beloved up to the stage.”
Gemma stood frozen, hearing the awkward, cringe–worthy speech.
She’d seen Marcus acting crazy at the door earlier and thought he was about to challenge the hotel manager to a duel.
But now…
A proposal? Really?
Her face was completely black now.
“Gemma, this is what I owe you.”
Marcus grinned, pulling her toward the stage.
She held onto the doorframe, refusing to move.
Years ago, when Marcus regained his sight, they’d agreed to end their relationship.
Even the Wilson family had been glad to see her go, hoping Marcus would find a wife more suited to him.
Though it hurt, Gemma had always told herself that love meant letting go.
But then, something strange happened when they visited the Wilson house for dinner.
Whether it was something in the food or just fate, she and Marcus had ended up in bed together.
The next day, Marcus had been furious, saying, “If you didn’t want to leave, you could’ve just told me. No need for tricks.”
She’d been humiliated and denied everything, saying, “I didn’t do anything. Don’t worry, I won’t bother you. I’ll leave.”
Marcus had stormed off on a business trip for over a month.
She had been planning to file for divorce when he came back. In the meantime, she’d passed a medical exam and started a new job.
But then, on the day Marcus returned, she found out she was pregnant.
Marcus, seeing the child, apologized, saying he’d been too angry before.
For the sake of the child, and her own feelings, Gemma chose to forgive him.
But a proposal and a wedding seemed impossible then.
Then, Mabel returned.
Gemma closed her eyes and forced a bitter smile.
So many things she had once yearned for were now being thrust in her face.
But instead of joy, all she felt was the sting of old wounds reopening.

Gemmal
Marcus said, seeing her reluctance to step onto the stage. He was starting to panic.
“It’s my fault, I hurt you. If you can forgive me, 1-
Seeing the pain in her eyes, his voice caught in his throat.
If he wasn’t truly sincere, he knew he might never win her back.
He gritted his teeth.
Trying again.
“Back then, I was the one who put that drug in your milk.”
“You’re a doctor, you know all about medicine, but you let your guard down around me.”
“I put sugar in the milk to cover the taste of the drug.”
Gemma’s body jerked, her eyes wide in shock.
Six years!
She’d carried that guilt for six long years.
All those days and nights of self–blame-
How could she, someone who understood medicine so well, not have noticed?
How could she not have realized something was wrong?
She’d lost her innocence, and Marcus had lost the chance to be with the woman he loved.
She’d blamed herself for six years!
The heartache, the madness-
It all seemed so pointless now.
“No wonder you kept saying I was wronged in front of Margaret,” she said, her voice hoarse.
“Now I get it… I really get it.”
Her words were jagged.
Her chest ached as if it was about to explode.
“Only the one who wronged me could understand just how wronged I was!”
“Marcus!”
She gritted her teeth. “You… you disgust me!”
Marcus had imagined how angry she’d be.
But he hadn’t expected the look in her eyes–the hatred, the regret, even the way she cried uncontrollably.
Why?
Why wasn’t she touched?
He drugged her to make her stay! He even broke his moral rules for her!
Marcus was paralyzed.
“Gemma, Gemma, please, calm down. Just listen to me.”
‘He released her wrist, putting both hands on her shoulders, his eyes glistening with unshed tears.
“When you treated my eyes, I didn’t even realize it, but I fell for you.”
“When I regained my sight, I thought you’d leave me. My pride wouldn’t let me beg you to stay, so I did things the wrong way.”
“Gemma, I’ve loved you for so long. It’s just I didn’t ask Mabel to leave immediately, but please, don’t hold that against me.”
His voice became more desperate.
His eyes red–rimmed.
The man who valued his pride more than anything had finally broken down, tears streaming down his face.
Gemma just stared at him, as if she was trying to see through him to the core of his being.
She couldn’t believe it.
The man she once loved so deeply wasn’t even worthy of being human.
The tears kept coming, but the pain in her chest was sharper than ever.
And yet, even as she cried, she couldn’t bring herself to let out a sound.
It was as if she couldn’t breathe until she cried out, feeling like she was on the verge of collapse.
Marcus stood frozen, unsure what to do.

Chapter 183: Wanting to Propose to the Girl He Loves
He’d never seen her like this before.
He thought that after hearing about his love for her, she would cry tears of joy and rush into his arms,
But instead…
There was nothing but hatred in her eyes.
As if the small mistake he made was her huge agony.
telling him everything she had suffered.
Only now, with the truth finally revealed, did she have an outlet to release everything–letting it all explode.
He wanted to propose, but now…
He didn’t dare to say another word.
Gemma gasped for breath, as if the tears had finally cleared the fog in her mind.
She had once thought that divorce would bring closure–that both of them were responsible for the failure of their marriage.
But now she understood. Her marriage had been a plot from the start-
How could it have ever worked out?
This was a marriage doomed to fall apart from the very beginning.
-a conspiracy.
