Chapter 106: Gemma’s Report: Mr. Cassius, I’m Not Returning to the Manor Tonight
“Ah, I see. Well, you don’t need to keep watching over me. Go back and cook for Max.”
Margaret immediately felt that Mabel was no longer charming.
She had been supporting Mabel all this time because she knew Mabel was with Max before, and it might piss Gemma off.
If Gemma got so upset that she filed for divorce, that would be a huge win for Margaret.
She never expected that, after all these years, Gemma had turned into a turtle–stubbornly refusing to let go.
She thought Mabel was a useless pawn.
But then came the huge surprise.
Since Mabel’s purpose had been fulfilled, it was time to dump her.
How could she accept a daughter–in–law with an ordinary family background and a career in the entertainment industry?
That was even harder to swallow than Gemma!
At least, Gemma was a renowned doctor.
But the showbiz?
A den of chaos and pedophilia.
If Mabel married in, Margaret’s old friends would just worry about whether Marcus was being cheated on.
She couldn’t afford the shame.
“Margaret, it’s fine. Max has been working late, so he asked me to take good care of you.”
“You’re the most important person to him. Only when you get better will Max be alright.”
Margaret,
“Oh, right.”
Mabel took out a set of blue diamond jewelry from her bag.
“I got this for you. Let me know if you like it.”
She’d often given Margaret gifts before.
But Margaret usually didn’t care for them.
Her clothes and jewelry were all custom–made.
Mabel’s taste was a bit tacky–not quite her style.
However…
This set of blue diamonds was actually quite unique.
She reached out to take it, a hint of admiration on her face.
“Do you like it?”
“It’s alright.”
“Glad you like it! You’ll get better faster with good mood.”
“Mm.”
“Should I put it on for you?”
“No need, I’m still in the hospital. It’s not suitable to wear jewelry right now.”
Actually, Margaret thought it was a bit too young–looking for her–she didn’t feel it was her style.
But recently, she had arranged to meet a good friend whose niece had returned from studying abroad. She was a perfect candidate for an arranged marriage.
Margaret planned to give this set to the girl, and to check that girl first.
If the girl was good enough for her son, she would let them met sometime.
Keagan walked out of the police station at 3 PM, looking utterly drained.
His forehead was furrowed in a deep frown.
Yvonne, beside him, had red eyes from crying.
“What does Mr. Cassius mean by this? I can take whatever blame. But… you’re his cousin. Does he really need to be this harsh on you?”

They had just walked out of the hospital when they were met by the police.
Even though Keagan had revealed his identity and threatened them, the officers weren’t intimidated. They took them straight to the station.
After sorting out the responsibility, it dragged on until now.
Though no one had explained, Yvonne was certain that the only person who could openly target Keagan like this was Mr. Cassius.
Keagan pressed his forehead, still feeling a sharp headache.
“It’s just money, no big loss. You should go home now.”
Yvonne realized something was off. “What’s wrong? Why do you seem so distracted?”
“I’m just tired. Never mind, I’ll take you home first.”
“Aren’t you going to the hospital to discuss the collaboration with Madame Margaret?”
“Not today. Maybe tomorrow.”
Hearing this, Yvonne’s face darkened.
For some reason, ever since Gemma came into the picture, her luck had been in a constant downward spiral.
Even Keagan seemed less interested in her now.
In the realm of fate, some people’s destinies clash in a way that never ends well.
She and Gemma must be one of those pairs.
Her fists clenched, teeth gritted.
Gemma, even if Mr. Cassius is protecting you, I won’t make it easy for you!
At work, Gemma suddenly sneezed without warning.
She rubbed her nose, wondering if she was overworking herself. Her body was starting to give out under the strain.
“Gemma, are you feeling unwell?”
To her surprise, Brian appeared at her office door, looking refreshingly cheerful.
“Brian, why aren’t you at the company handling your collaboration?”
“It’s simple,” Brian smiled, his voice smooth and soothing. “Because you’re so outstanding, everyone’s fighting for your pills, and I chose the most reasonable price.”
“Then, Brian, congratulations.”
Gemma had always wanted to repay his kindness, so she felt satisfied she could do a little something for him.
Brian hesitated for a moment.
“Gemma, you’ve helped the Read family a lot this time. I have to take you out to dinner to thank you.”
Then, he pulled out a card.
“This is your payment. Please accept it.”
He had a feeling she would refuse, but in case she did, he had prepared a gift-
Jewelry he’d personally chosen, a symbol of commitment.
He’d calculated it perfectly.
If Gemma rejected the money, she’d feel awkward refusing the jewelry.
Jewelry carried more meaning!
But instead-
Gemma took the card, “What’s the password?”
Pardon? She just took it… like that?
He slowly gave her the number.
“Well, I’ll take it. Even though I don’t think I’ve done much, thank you for the generosity!”
Inside, she was thrilled.
Working outside really paid well.
Brian, “…”
He took a deep breath, trying to suppress the disappointment in his chest.
“Gemma, are you free tonight?”
He regrouped, making another move.
“I’ve reserved a table at The Velvet Orchard.”

The Velvet Orchard was one of N.L. City’s most exclusive restaurants–hard to book.
Gemma really wanted to go, but since she’d already accepted the money, another free meal would make her seem a little too shameless.
“I need to go see Cali tonight. She sprained her ankle, and I’ll stay with her until she’s better.”
Brian immediately looked worried.
“Sprained her ankle? Is it serious? Has she been to the hospital?”
“She’s fine, but she needs someone to take care of her. So I can’t make it to dinner.”
Brian quickly said, “I’m knowledgeable about this.
I’ll go with you after work, and I’ll even check on her.”
Gemma gently refused, “She’s already feeling much better…”
“But what if it doesn’t heal properly and leaves lasting effects?” Brian’s tone turned unusually serious.
“Gemma, health is no small matter.”
“You don’t have to worry about inconveniencing me. I’m working on a case, so this can count as a joint consultation, okay?”
With him pushing this far, refusing now would be impolite.
“Alright.”
Brian’s smile immediately became wilder.
“Gemma, I’ll pick you up after work.”
Once he left, Gemma pulled out her phone and messaged Cassius.
“I’m going to stay with Cali tonight. She sprained her ankle.”
After sending the message, she stared at her phone, feeling a little puzzled.
She was just staying at the manor temporarily–why did she feel the need to report it every time she stayed out for the night?
