Chapter 104: Mr. Cassius is a Good Guy, Gemma’s Background Has Issues
Even if Marcus still couldn’t let go.
Once Margaret spoke up, Marcus wouldn’t be able to resist.
She knew—Marcus always listened to his mom!
A little more push, and if Margaret accepted her, she’d marry Marcus soon enough!
Watching them leave, Cali couldn’t hold back her frustration and shook her fists in the air.
“If I wasn’t limping, I’d make them eat their teeth!”
Gemma helped Cali out of the hospital, smiling. “Of course, my bestie is the toughest! If it weren’t for you knocking out my dad, I’d still be stuck in that little mountain town.”
Cali blushed a little at the compliment.
But as they laughed, memories of their time in the small town flooded back, and her eyes filled with tears.
“Honestly, your parents were terrible. When we were kids, it was either beatings or insults.”
“When you grew up, all they cared about was you marrying someone to support your brother.”
She grabbed Gemma’s wrist and saw the round scar on it, her eyes welling up.
“You were only five! And that jerk burned you with a cigarette. I wish I’d killed him then!”
Gemma helped steady her, but her heart felt heavy.
She had grown up in that small town, where the constant message was to take care of her brother.
Her entire existence was for him.
But after she received an education, she realized how wrong that was.
She started rebelling, wanting to learn more.
But that rebellion led to violent punishments from her parents.
Her body had been covered in bruises, with hardly a spot left unmarked.
If Cali hadn’t taken her in, she might not have survived.
Cali sighed.
“My family spoiled my brother, but at least they weren’t cruel enough to force me to marry a disabled.”
“When I went to college, they didn’t like it at first, but when they saw I had a scholarship and didn’t need their money, they finally came around.”
“Your parents were monsters. Sometimes, I wonder if you’re even really their child!”
“Gemma, don’t cry. Awww… Gemma.”
Cali hadn’t meant to make her cry, but seeing the tears, she immediately reached out to wipe them away.
“Alright, alright, I’ll stop talking. We’re not going back, so forget those people.”
Gemma shook her head quickly.
“I’m not crying because of them. I’m crying because of you.”
“Cali, I regret it so much. I shouldn’t have argued with you. I should’ve listened.”
“The truth is, you were right. Marrying Marcus was my downfall.”
Cali froze in surprise and didn’t know how to respond.
“But… you’re divorced now, right? We’re both on the right path from now on.”
Gemma nodded, helping Cali out of the hospital.
Just as they stepped outside, they spotted Cassius standing nearby, with Noah holding three cotton candies in his hands.
When Noah saw them, he ran over, handing one to each of them.
*Gemma, eat this! It’s so good!”
He’d begged for so long to get them.
Gemma took it and ruffled his hair. “Thanks, kiddo.”
“Gemma, come on. Uncle Cassius needs to talk to you.”
“Oh, and Cali, you should come too.”
Noah tugged at Gemma to lead the way.
Gemina was still supporting Cali, so she followed.
Cassius looked up as they approached and immediately extended his hand, holding a USB drive.
Gemma and Cali exchanged surprised looks.

Noah immediately explained.
“Cali’s computer broke, right? Uncle Cassius had someone recover the chip and copied all the design files.”
Gemma, “!!!”
Cali, “11”
“Oh my god, this is like a miracle!”
“Anything your Uncle Cassius needs, I’d jump into fire or water for it!”
Noah thought for a moment and added seriously, “Well, just missing an Aunt Cassius.”
