Chapter 19
Grace wandered into the hospital, lost in a daze. Before she even walked through the doors, Lucy’s complaints echoed in the air.
“Harry, you’re just lying here while that little bitch squanders money without a care for you. How would someone like her ever have such a life if not for you? Just look at the credit card bill I got today–16 million dollars Does she think she deserves that?”
Harry was overwhelmed. Grace truly didn’t grasp her place. She wasn’t a genuine heiress like Ella. He thought, ‘Does she really think she deserves such luxuries! Previously, when she spent Ella’s money, he reluctantly looked the other way. But now, he couldn’t afford to keep that up
Besides, his day had been rough. After a worker accidentally bumped him, he nearly smashed his face into a machine. He only lost half a finger and was grateful it wasn’t his face he wouldn’t have survived if it had been. Unable to reattach his finger and dealing with Grace’s lack of sense. Harry was increasingly frustrated.
“Mom. I’ll have a word with her when she gets here,” Harry said.
At the moment, Grace despised Ella. She had been goaded into this reckless spending by Ella. But regretting the music. “Harry. Mom…
“Don’t call me mom, 1 can’t afford a daughter like you” snapped Lucy.
it
now was pointless, she had to face
Harry didn’t come to her defense but began to scold her instead.
Grace was filled with sorrow, Tears streamed down her face as she recounted Ella’s misdeeds, pinning all the blame on her.
Harry listened, his emotions in turmoil. He thought, Ella still has the nerve to go shopping with that idiot? It seems she knows there is no turning back and just wants to enjoy her last days of splendor‘
Just then, Harry’s phone rang; it was Troy,
“I can’t just stand by and watch her suffer; she is, after all, my old friend’s daughter. This is where our partnership ends, I’ll return everything you’ve given me,” Troy said, and then he hung up
“You… Harry barely started before the call ended.
Sobbing, Grace pleaded, “Harry, it was all Eila’s doing. I did it for your dignity…”
Previously, her tears might have softened Harry, but now hearing Ella’s name again sparked a sudden rage. He furiously got off the bed and kicked Grace hard.
“Fuck! She told you to buy and you just keep buying–are you an idiot? Can’t you think for yourself? You’re such a fool, lening her manipulate you completely and embarrass me in public!”
“Ah-“Grace screamed, her face draining of color as she clutched her stomach. Soon, blood began to stain the hem of her dress. “Harry… save our baby!”
Harry remained unmoved. He was a different man now, able to have as many children as he wanted with plenty of women eager to bear them for him. It was probably for the best that Grace’s foolishness wasn’t passed on to the child. The loss was perhaps a mercy.
Lucy,
however, was deeply pained for her grandchild and quickly had Grace rushed to the hospital.
The baby was beyond saving. At three months, the placenta had detached prematurely from the kick. A D&C surgery was necessary.
Grace wept uncontrollably, and Lucy sighed repeatedly. “It’s just fate; you weren’t meant to have this child. Don’t take it too hard. You’re young- you’ll have other chances
Grace’s inconsolable crying was too much for Lucy, who found the situation unbearably ominous. Although Harry was to blame, she noted how some people bounce back from a fall, unlike the overly delicate Grace. She had the ailments of a lady without the life of one.
Alone in the hospital room, Grace clenched her fists in humiliation. Now she truly saw Harry for what he was, a petty man who looked down on others once he found success. When he was under Willard’s thumb, feeling inferior as a bastard in front of Ella, she had been his sanctuary, the one who he vowed to love forever.
Now, with the child gone, her last the to Harry was severed. With his current status, he could easily discard her at any moment. She thought, ‘No, I have to make myself indispensable to Harry! Even though he was despicable, she had no better alternatives. She was determined to live a better more privileged life.
Fighting through her post–miscarriage weakness, she made her way to Harry’s hospital room.
Lucy gasped “What are you doing here? A woman who’s just miscarried is considered unlucky–don’t bring that upon Harry!”
Hearing this, Grace gritted her teeth, swallowing her humiliation yet again.
“Harry, I’m sorry 1 couldn’t save our child. But are we just going to let this go? Imagine if Ella had publicly caused my miscarriage. Wouldn’t that be a massive blow to Willow Group? Their stock prices would plummer, right?” Grace asked.
Harry’s eyes lit up. “Why are you still standing? Come and lie down, you look so pale!” He guided her to the bed.
“Mom, I’m craving some fruits. Could you go get some for
or me?” Grace asked.
“Impossible, Lucy responded.
“Mom, just go. She needs to rebuild her strength, Harry commanded immediately.
Left with no other choice, Lucy complied. Grace had temporarily put off the D&C surgery. She had bribed the doctor to hide her miscarriage
The doctor had warned that the surgery needed to happen soon. Keeping a deceased fetus for too long could lead to severe infections, potentially faul
She hadn’t undergone the surgery yet, and the intermittent bleeding continued, the dark blood clots were frankly quite frightening.
Time was of the essence. Harry needed an opportunity to expose Ella publicly, to cement the rumor that she had caused a miscarriage. But currently, no social events were scheduled
Eventually, Harry decided to throw his own party, to celebrate taking control of Rhys Group. He had Troy reach out to Ella.
“Ella, if you don’t show up, Harry will target me. I’m barked into a corner here. Please come, don’t wait until it’s too late for me–Ill be ruined! You wouldn’t want anything to happen to me, right Otherwise, I won’t be able to fulfill your company’s order on timer Troy talked to Ella over the phone.
“Alright, I’ll be there, Ella agreed reluctantly.
She sensed something suspicious about the party. She knew Harry was thrilled to have inherited Rhys Group, thinking that he probably couldn’t wait for Garrett and Willard to pass away.
Now that his wish had been granted, he ought to have been more discreet. It was too soon to throw a party celebrating his rise. She thought. What would the media think? What would the public think? This would only smear his reputation, the kind of stain that can’t be washed away,
Has Harry lost his mind? Ella mused.”
Just then, her phone buzzed with a new message: [You must attend the party tomorrow night. I want you to see just how out of your league 1 am now!]
Ella scoffed. She thought. So it is all about his fragile pridel Fine, I will show up!
