Chapter 13
Lucy broke into tears of joy.
Harry was ecstatic about this turn of events. He had been deeply worried about the prospect of Ella marrying, fearing it would leave him without a key backer and likely Land him in hot water with Willard. But to his relief, his greatest rival had unexpectedly passed away.
While Harry couldn’t spare much thought for Grace’s condition in the hospital at the moment, he felt a renewed sense of optimism as he hurried back to the Rhys family.
The police had already released the bodies, both beyond recognition. Harry swiftly arranged their burial and held a board meeting that same afternoon, officially assuming control
His first priority was to ensure the PR department spared no effort to suppress the scandal surrounding Ella’s wedding. Finally, he had secured his coveted position without Ella’s help, seemingly with fate on his side,
Harry sat in the chairman’s chair, spinning contentedly. The splendid neon lights outside the floor–to–ceiling windows bathed half the sky in red.
All he could think about was Ella. He’d finally one–upped her, and now he could strut in front of her without feeling like some scrub. Ella would have to look up to him now as he was about to take the Willow Group to whole new levels.

Lost in his own little world, Harry got interrupted when Lucy came walizing into the room. Despite both mother and son having been busy until Late at night, they showed no signs of weariness,
“I heard Ella got married today.” Lucy said. “You turned down her proposal, and to get back at you, she ended up hitching herself to some dummy, huh!”
The news had quickly circulated within their tight–knit circle.
“She was just mad at me for a bit. But now I can hold my head high in front of her. If Ella knew I’d been carrying a torch for her all this time but was too insecure to show it, and that’s why I ended up hurting her, she’d definitely forgive me, Harry responded
“But she went and married some dummy today. Aren’t you worried she might do something you’re gonna regret!”
“Not at all Harry asserted confidently. “Ella might seem impulsive, but she’s very conservative about that kind of thing. She never agreed to go that far with me. Marrying a fool just to spite me? She wouldn’t cross that line: she’s sensible.”
Reflecting on this, Harry felt a pang of emotion. He hadn’t intended to make a mistake, it was really Ella’s aloofness. He wouldn’t have lost control if he hadn’t gotten drunk with Grace.
“Mom, I want to marry Ella Grace’s background isn’t right for her to be my wife.”
“What about the child she’s carrying.
“I want to keep the boy and raise him elsewhere. I’d appreciate your help with that. Morn. But for now, my top priority is making things right with
EIL.
Harry was brimming with confidence, because everyone in Ardben City knew how crazy Ella was about him. Given how ride–or–die she’d been even when he was totally checking out before, he figured she’d be down to make up with him if he just made the smallest effort now.
“Alright, so Ella’s on your level now, and Grace isn’t really someone you wanna be flaunting around. But the child is innocent. You can’t drag him into the mix. I’ll take care of the hospital visit for you. Grace seems pretty level–headed, she’ll get it.”
Lucy was straight–up beaming with pride over her son. But it hadn’t always been that way for her she used to be a lot more unsure of herself. After thinking it over for a bit, Lucy figured it probably changed when Ella, this loaded heiress from some big–time family, started really latching onto Harry and not letting go, that must’ve given her a serious dose of maternal pride.
Lucy never held official standing within the Rhys family. She had long been the subject of ridicule and disdain among the wealthy social circles. However, when Ella began counting Harry, those snooty ladies suddenly started welcoming Lucy into their fold. At the high society events. Lucy would take every opportunity to put down Ella, claiming the girl was desperately trying to marry into their family.
By doing that, Lucy was able to attract a lot of attention and felt elevated in their eyes. She had once thought Ella wasn’t good enough for Harry. and she still felt that way, motivated by Harry’s career ambitions,
Lucy went to the hospital.
Upon seeing that it wasn’t Harry but Lucy who had come, Grace couldn’t help asking. “Mrs. Rhys, what brings you here!”
Although they weren’t married yet, Harry had already made heartfelt promises to her, and she had been close to Lucy, Lucy used to enjoy that, but
she felt differently, believing that Grace no longer seemed suitable for Harry
“Harry is busy and worried about you, so he sent me to check on you. By the way, Harry has taken o over
er the Rhys family’s business,” Lucy said. Then,
Chapter 1
she briefly mentioned the deaths of Garrett and Willard
Grace was ecstatic, thinking her days of hardship were finally over, and she could now be a wealthy housewife, “Mrs. Rhys, is that true?”
Overwhelmed, Grace grabbed Lucy’s hand, tears welling up but not quite falling, when Lucy coldly w
withdrew her hand
“Grace, I’ve decided to make you my goddaughter. From now on, you and Harry will consider each other as siblings,” Lucy
Grace’s heart sank at the words, “Mrs. Rhys, what do you mean?”
Lucy answered, “Harry’s career is really taking off now that he’s just taken the helm of the company. His position isn’t stable yet, and he needs a capable assistant. He’s indebted to Ella because of his past actions, and it’s time he made it up to her.
“But don’t worry, Harry will still take care of you. You just need to focus on having the baby, and I assure you, you’ll be well provided for. As my goddaughter, your child still belongs to the Rhys family”
Grace trembled, realizing she was being discarded now that she was no longer useful.
Harry, driven by his stubborn pride, had humiliated Ella, which inadvertently gave Grace a chance to rise.
I had indulged his male ego, and now that he had gained power, he wanted to sideline me? Grace was seething with anger but kept it under control. Submissively, she responded, “I’ll do as you wish. I understand Harry is a man of great ambitions and shouldn’t be held back by romantic ties. Fil take good care of myself and do whatever you ask.”
“You’re such a good girl: it’s hard on you, Lasry said, though her expression showed no real empathy.
Grace cursed them internally, Harry wanted to reconnect with Ella, but whether Ella would have him back was another matter. Grace wouldn’t allow Harry to simply push her aside so easily.
While everyone harbored their own ulterior motives, the heavily intoxicated Ella was clueless about all this
Today was her wedding day, and she was swarped with guests coming to toast her. She had drunk heavily by noon, vomited, rested in the afternoon, and started drinking again in the evening,
During the toasts, people subtly probed about her relationship with Marcus. She deflected their questions as best she could, honruly unable to explain the situation herself, she had only met him once and wasn’t aware of his admiration for Devin.

Others, however, suspected she was withholding information, thinking the union of the two families must signify a major move, potentially upending the power dynamics of Ardbert City, Some began to feel uneasy, seeking to protect themselves or gain favor with Ella, which led to even more eager toasting
Jaden wanted to drink, but Ella was fiercely protective. Considering how naive Jaden was, she felt he couldn’t take care of himself, let alone manage his alcohol.
She naturally intercepted every drink meant for him, silently sipping as he watched her consume glass after glass, her face becoming flushed and her gaze unfocused. Ella had to excuse herself several times during the evening to vomit, emerging from the restroom unsteady on her feet.
“Are you still going to drink?” Jaden furrowed his brow
