Chapter 158
“Ding–ding-”
Inside the bustling offices of the Sutton Group, Kieran glanced at his phone as it buzzed on his desk, lighting up with Freya’s name.
He instinctively reached to answer but paused, his hand suspended in mid–air.
Answering too quickly would make it seem like he was at Freya’s beck and call, wouldn’t it? Since when had he, Kieran Sutton, been so readily available?
Recalling he’d ignored Freya’s calls in the past, he decided to let it ring a bit longer, playing it cool. Just as the ringing was about to end, he picked up the call with a feigned annoyance, “What’s up?”
Silence greeted him from the other end, accompanied by the faint hum of car engines in the background. After a moment, Kieran frowned, “Freya?“.
e call abruptly ended the next second.
Looking at the disconnected call, Kieran tried calling back only to find her phone turned off. His expression turned colder.
Turning to the door, he shouted, “Jarrett, come in!”
“Mr. Sutton?” Jarrett entered, finding Kieran grabbing his coat, and was puzzled. “What’s happening?”
“Look up where Freya’s been today, ASAP.”
“Right away, Mr. Sutton.” Jarrett dialed Johanna’s number, which Kieran promptly snatched from him. Heading towards the elevator, he demanded, “Where’s Freya?”
“Freya?” Johanna sounded confused, “She went out in the afternoon. Why? Isn’t she with you?”
Kieran hung up on Johanna, who was clueless about Freya’s whereabouts, leaving her bewildered.
Where could Freya be?
Reaching the parking garage, Kieran returned the phone to Jarrett and instructed, “Keep looking. Check if Freya hit any shopping districts or restaurants today.”
Figuring she should be dining somewhere by this time, Kieran’s thoughts were interrupted as Eloise pulled up in her car to the Sutton Group.
Spotting Kieran, Eloise called out, “Kieran!”
He stopped in his tracks, his brow furrowing at the sight of her. “What are you doing here?”
“I… came to pick you up from work.” Eloise didn’t want to mention the humiliation she faced from Preston and Freya at the restaurant earlier. Her unease with Preston had prompted this unexpected gesture.
Kieran’s response was neutral. “I’m busy today. You should head back.”
It was rare for Kieran to turn down Eloise’s kindness. Seeing his urgency, she asked, “Is something wrong?”
With concern etched on her face, Kieran saw no point hiding the issue. “Freya’s missing.”
“Missing?” Eloise echoed, her worry mirroring Kieran’s own.
