Chapter 61
Dylan POV
“Hey!” Lewis quickly crouched down to be at level with my resting self, he gently cupped my probably bruised cheek with his hand, and stroked his thumb over my cheek bone, this was getting weird. “This is nothing that won’t heal, Dylan. You have got to stay strong. I know you are hurting, but keep your mind firm.” I couldn’t see any point in fighting it any more, I really couldn’t. My body was screaming at me, agony coursing through every inch of me. “Don’t give up on me, please, you can’t give in.” How on earth was I giving up on him? by doing what exactly? Becoming a punch bag for the king and his family?
“Look at me?! I’m broken, he’s done it. Any form of hope I ever have just gets destroyed. I’ll accept his stupid. mark, maybe then my life might at least get a little easier.” I sniffled as I hollowly spoke, my words were emotionless but my heart was anything but. The thought of actually accepting such a cruel sadistic man caused my breath to hitch. I’d be bound to him forever.
“Im not going to stop you, if that’s your decision, but really think about it. I always thought that if Josh actually found his mate, he would mellow, but this… I don’t think someone like him deserves a mate at all.”
The beta was acting so strange. I couldn’t understand why he was being so nice to me. “If you accept him then that’s it, there’s nothing you can do! I swear to you, your life will have no chance of getting better.”
“You’ve changed your fucking tune…” I stated only to realize that I was still talking to the royal beta, my dry lips quickly went in between my teeth as I realized I’d misspoken, my eyes shut tight as I braced myself for even more pain, but it never came.
“I know… I thought you would be good for him. I thought maybe after being with you for a while he might see
that we all aren’t that different.
Equality between the two species is possible, but not if Josh doesn’t change his views. Now, I just don’t think it’s possible. I don’t think Josh will ever change, he likes having power over people.” I understood exactly where he was coming from with that one.
Not much was known about the king before the new world celebrations, he kept himself to himself, he hardly ever made public appearances. So I guess everyone is a bit shocked at how much he’s been in the public eye, especially since meeting me, it also seems he’s showing his true colors too. I don’t think anyone, human or lycan was expecting the king to be so violent and condescending towards my kind, and no one expected him to be so vicious towards me.
As my thoughts began wondering, the doctor from yesterday strolled in. He looked at mine and Lewis’s proximity and raised an eyebrow at us.
Lewis was extremely quick to straighten his legs from his crouched position and take a step away from my. mutilated body. He cleared his throat loudly before walking over to me himself.
“Is everything ok, your grace?” Lewis quickly replied to the doctors question with his own, speaking in my stead, which in all fairness I was glad because I really hated being referred to as your grace, and I would have snapped a little.
“Can she get something for her pain?” The doctor nodded his head before fingers met the sheet on my back..
1/2
“Of course.” The doctor quickly began to speak to me directly though, and I cringed already knowing how much pain it would cause. “I need to check your stitches and assess the remaining damage anyway so I’ll numb your back completely and we can go from there.”
“Ok…” At that moment I would have said yes to anything in order to get rid of the pain. The doctor nodded before once again walking out of the room. While he was off getting whatever pain relief or numbing agent I was about to receive Lewis once again spoke to me, his concern for my well being was touching yet confusing.
“What hurts more? Your back or your arms?” Lewis seemed really concerned about me and it felt nice to have some one ask. I completely forgot about the burns because of the pain radiating from my mutilated back.
