Chapter 55 She wondered if Sophia knew how much of a jerk he was. No, he wouldn’t be like this around Sophia. He cherished her too much to ever wrong her. But to Aveline…. She was nothing. Lucas stared at the closed door, the frustration in his chest growing. He took a large gulp of water as if it could ease his irritation. She used to be different. Why couldn’t they just get along as they did before, since they weren’t divorced yet? An hour passed. There was a knock on Aveline’s door. Groggily, she got up and opened it, seeing Lucas already dressed in a suit, looking at her with a calm expression. “It’s time to head to the dinner.” Her hair was down, and her delicate features looked fresh and soft, with a touch of confusion. The sharpness seemed to have faded, leaving a gentler side. It reminded him of how she used to be, and his heart softened unexpectedly. “I don’t have a dress,” Aveline said with a yawn. She was truly exhausted. She had traveled non–stop from Cloudflare City to Labor City and spent the entire afternoon waiting in the hotel. lobby. She was afraid to close her eyes, worried she might miss him. As a result, she had only managed to sleep for an hour, which was far from enough to rolleve her fatigue, Lacas replied, “It’s already been devered.” Aveline promptly closed the door. Lucas frowned. “Aveline? What was she up to now? But soon, she reopened the door, her face slightly damp, indicating she had just washed up. Aveline ignored him and left the room, spotting the black dress on the sofa. She picked it up and returned to her room. The dress was modest yet elegant, either too flashy in showcasing her figure nor so conservative as to feel suffocating. It had a V–neck design and was cinched perfectly at the waist, highlighting her slender frame. However, the zipper was at the back, and she couldn’t reach it. After several failed attempts, she opened the door and, without expression, looked at him. “Help me with the zipper.” She turned around, sweeping her hair over one shoulder. Lucas stood up and walked over, his gaze falling on her pale back. She was slender, her shoulder blades beautifully shaped. His kisses from last night still lingered in his hemory. His fingers brushed her delicate skin, and the softness made his fingertips tremble slightly. His eyes darkened at Taby. However, he quickly zipped up the dress. Aveline fixed her hair, took out her bag, and applied light makeup. before looking at him. “Alright, let’s go.” +15 BONUS She looked very simple and elegant, without any jewelry, like a gentle breeze–pleasant but not easily memorable. Lucas frowned as he looked at her. He pulled out his phone, made a call, gave a few instructions, and then looked back at her. “Wait a moment.” Aveline nodded and sat on the sofa, pulling out her phone to pass. the time. True to his word, he had transferred one million dollars into her account. Ha, ha, ha, she was rich! Suddenly, she thought maybe delaying the divorce wasn’t such a bad idea. If he had more demands, she could ask for another one million each time. Life would be sweet! After about an hour, there was a knock on the hotel room door. Lucas walked over and opened it. A bodyguard stood there, respectfully handing him a bag. Lucas returned, took out a jewelry box from the bag, and opened it to reveal a set of dazzling diamond jewelry. After the CEO Divorced Me, He Wants Me Back
A year ago, Aveline Young found a man with amnesia on the side of the road and brought him home. This man was strikingly handsome, with broad shoulders, long legs, and a face that could easily earn a fortune in modeling. Aveline felt an embarrassing flutter in her heart and on a whim, they quickly got married. However, once the man recovered his memory, his first action was to divorce her, claiming he needed to go back and take over his family’s business. Aveline was stunned but accepted the divorce, thinking that money was more important and that she shouldn’t be tied to one man when there were plenty of younger options available. On the day they finalized their divorce, Aveline shocked everyone in Cloudflare City with a bold statement in the divorce papers: “He’s no good, so I got bored.” Post-divorce, Aveline was never short of attention from young, attractive men. At one social event, a friend inquired whether she would ever consider reconciling. Aveline scoffed. “The one who brings up getting back together is a dog!” Late one night, her phone rang. “Who’s this?” “Woof!”
Chapter 54 Lucas‘ room was on the 9th floor. Just as the elevator was about to reach the 7th floor, he suddenly canceled the 7th–floor command. “What are you doing?” Aveline frowned, asking immediately. Lucas replied, “Everyone here knows we’re married. It wouldn’t be appropriate to sleep in separate rooms.” Aveline retorted, “I doubt anyone cares about your private life.” Lucas said, “Just in case.” By the time Aveline reached for the 7th–floor button, it was too late; the elevator had already stopped on the 9th floor. Her expression darkened. Lucas walked out of the elevator and went far ahead before Aveline finally stepped out. However, she didn’t follow him. Instead, she headed toward the stairwell. Seeing this, Lucas tugged at his tie and called out, “Aveline.” She paused. “What?” She didn’t turn around, so she didn’t see the deep, dark look in his eyes. Lucas sighed almost imperceptibly and said, “There’s no major conflict between us. Can’t we just get along peacefully?” Aveline’s hand clenched into a fist. Now he wanted to talk about getting along peacefully? That was what she had wanted before, but how did he treat her? Because she initially refused to divorce, he treated her coldly and harshly. #15 BONUS She almost thought he had been possessed by someone else! And now, he wanted to get along peacefully. Aveline chuckled lightly. “Fine, attending the dinner will cost you two hundred thousand dollars.” Lucas paused. “That’s quite the price hike.” Aveline turned to look at him. “It’s your reputation at stake, not mine. After we divorce, no one will care who I am.” She acted as if she didn’t care at all. If he wanted peace, he would have to pay for it. Lucas stared at her mocking eyes, his breath heavy. She really dared to raise the price on him. Seeing his silence, Aveline walked over with her arms crossed and a half–smile on her face. “Or… we don’t get divorced. I’ll do my part as Mrs. Tudor, and you act like a proper husband. Then you can forget about any repayment.” “One million, and you move over,” Lucas said coldly. He then turned, pulled out his room card, and entered his room without another word. Aveline’s smile had barely formed before her expression turned bitter. Ha… Was it that as soon as something involved Sophia, he would immediately compromise? She wanted to ask him, “Do you like Miss Winter that much? Then why not just divorce me quickly?” +15 BONU The doorbell rang. Lucas opened the door to find Aveline standing there, her expression indifferent. “Where’s your luggage?” “Didn’t bring any,” Aveline replied, stepping inside and glancing around the room. It was a presidential suite with three rooms: two bedrooms and a study. The living room was spacious, with a soft leather sofa. Aveline walked straight to the side bedroom. “I’ll stay in this one.” Lucas’s deep, magnetic voice said, “Stay with me.” Aveline looked at him. “Do your business partners really care if we sleep in separate rooms or together? Isn’t that a bit intrusive?” Meeting her mocking gaze, Lucas felt an inexplicable irritation but said, “I can pay more.” “In your dreams!” Aveline’s smile faded as she shook her phone. ” Transfer the one million now. As for anything else, don’t even think about it!” P
Chapter 53 “Mr. Tudor went to Labor City for his business trip.” Aveline responded, “Send me his detailed itinerary.” “Alright, no problem.” Desmond agreed and hung up. Shortly after, he sent Lucas‘ work schedule to Aveline. Aveline glanced at it and immediately booked a flight. Without hesitation, she headed straight to the airport. It only took three hours to fly from Cloudflare City to Labor City. Once she found Lucas, they could find another lawyer to handle the divorce proceedings and then return, without wasting much time. The two cities were close, with similar climates. After landing, Aveline took a taxi directly to the hotel where Lucas was staying. She booked a room and sat in the lobby, waiting for him to appear. This jerk wasn’t answering her calls. Ha! Did he think he could avoid her by going on a business trip? Impossible! Aveline waited for a long time. The sky outside darkened before Lucas‘ tall figure finally appeared at the entrance. Her eyelids felt heavy, but when she saw him, she was momentarily. dazed. After blinking to make sure it was him, she stood up and walked toward him. “Lucas.” She called his name before even getting close. +15 BONUS Lucas paused and looked over. The moment his eyes landed on her, his gaze darkened. She had actually come here. “Mr. Tudor, who is this?” the man next to him asked in confusion. A helpless yet doting smile appeared on Lucas‘ handsome and stern face. “My wife,” he said directly. The other man laughed upon hearing this. “It looks like Mrs. Tudor has come to surprise you. I’ll leave you two alone then. See you at the dinner later.” Lucas nodded slightly. “Take care, Mr. Summer. Η Aveline stood behind him, listening to their conversation. Her brows. furrowed, and her face was tense with emotion. Lucas turned his gaze back to her, “Why are you here?” Aveline, with a blank expression, said, “To surprise you. Let’s go. We can still find a lawyer here and file for a divorce. Are you surprised?” The gentle smile on Lucas‘ face gradually disappeared. His eyes. fixed on her, and after a moment, he said, “Did you hear what I just told Mr. Summer?” Aveline nodded. “Yes, but what does that have to do with me?” He was the one who introduced her that way. Did he get her consent? What did he mean by this now? Lucas laughed in exasperation at her indifferent attitude. “I just told Mr. Summer that you are my wife and agreed to bring you to the dinner tonight. If we go get a divorce now, it will leave a bad +15 BONUS impression on him and could affect this deal.” “Oh.” Aveline remained indifferent. “So what?” Lucas looked at her steadily. “So, you need to attend the dinner with me. We’ll talk about the divorce when we get back.” With that, he walked past her toward the elevator. Aveline blinked. Did she agree to this? “Wait a minute.” She turned and hurried after him. “I didn’t agree to attend the dinner.” The elevator doors opened just in time, and they both stepped in, one after the other. Lucas said calmly, “I just want to rest now.” Aveline’s face darkened. If she didn’t attend the dinner, he wouldn’t proceed with the divorce. What was he thinking? The atmosphere in the elevator was heavy. Aveline reached out and pressed the button for the 7th floor, where she had booked a room.
Chapter 52 Lucas suddenly stopped, her gaze making him uncomfortable. “I really don’t understand what you’re thinking,” Aveline asked softly. “Are we getting divorced or not?” Lucas’s lips tightened abruptly. He got up from the bed and headed straight to the bathroom. Aveline closed her eyes and let out a long sigh. Let’s not do this. If they were going to divorce, it should be straightforward. It would be easier for both of them. When Lucas came out, Aveline was gone. She hadn’t even stayed for breakfast. She had only sent him a message on WhatsApp, “I’ll be waiting for you at the lawyer’s office.” Lucas’s face looked as if it was covered in frost, his entire demeanor icy and intimidating. The housekeeper came out, looked around, and asked in confusion, ” Mr. Lucas, did Miss Young leave?” The housekeeper knew Aveline had come last night but had been informed not to disturb them. He had expected to see her this morning but found no one. Lucas put away his phone, his expression even colder. “Do you have nothing better to do?” Feeling the icy chill emanating from Lucas, the housekeeper quickly shut his mouth. It didn’t seem to be going well. +15 BONUS Aveline hailed a taxi, and as soon as she got in, her phone rang. She looked at it and saw that Selena was calling. “Hello?” Selena’s sleepy voice came through. “Babe, where are you?” Aveline replied, “I went out. If you’re still sleepy, go back to bed.” Selena said, “I have to work today, so I won’t sleep anymore.” Aveline continued, “Heat up the food yourself. Once I’m done with today’s matters, come over in the evening. There’s too much food for me to eat alone. Then we can check out the new house together. “Sounds good,” Selena agreed cheerfully. After hanging up, Aveline looked out the window. The Tudor residence was getting farther and farther away, but her heart still felt heavy. This is the last time, Aveline thought. She would not allow herself to indulge again. Today, after filing for a divorce, she would resign. from her job, and from then on, they would have no further ties. When she arrived, she stood at the lawyer’s office. There were many people around the waiting area. As Aveline looked at the busy office setting, she felt a moment of daze, as she remembered the day she married Lucas. They had been so happy and excited, full of anticipation for a blissful future. Aveline pressed her lips together and checked the time. If was already 9:30 AM. Lucas still hadn’t shown up. What did he mean by this? She called him directly, but he didn’t answer, and the call eventually disconnected on its own. What’s going on? Aveline’s brow furrowed, growing more impatient. Dragging out a divorce like this wasn’t manly! At 10:30 PM, Lucas finally responded. When she saw the message, she nearly spat blood in anger. Ser Lucas replied, “I have to go on an unexpected business trip. I’ll be back in about a week.” Aveline took several deep breaths, trying to calm herself. Don’t get angry, don’t get angry, getting sick from anger won’t help! But this jerk was infuriating! Why did he have to go on a business trip now? No, this divorce had to happen! She immediately called Desmond. “Miss Young,” Desmond answered quickly, his tone polite and distant. “Where did Mr. Tudor go on his business trip?” Aveline asked. Desmond replied, “Is there something you need?” Aveline said softly, “It’s a matter of life and death. Do you really need to keep asking?” Desmond’s eyes widened slightly. Was it the life and death he was thinking of? If so, then he could tell her.
Chapter 51 “Ave, sleep a little longer,” a familiar, affectionate voice sounded behind her. The man’s chin gently nuzzled the top of her head. Aveline froze. This was how they used to be. When she woke up early in the morning, Lu would be like this gentle and clingy, saying such things. Aveline lay there in a daze, unable to distinguish the past from the present. How could she tell them apart? Because whether it was the past or now, the one saying these words was always Lu. Her heart ached with bitterness, but she bit her finger and didn’t get up. She still craved this embrace. She craved his warmth, his scent, everything about him. She wished time could freeze at this moment–no divorce, no Sophia, no Tudor family drama… Just them, as they used to be. When she woke up again, Aveline immediately met Lucas’s playful gaze. Her expression stiffened. “Why are you staring at me like that?” It was early in the morning and quite unsettling. Lucas’s voice was deep. “Why are you here?” Aveline looked at his face. “You don’t remember?” Lucas raised an eyebrow. “Remember what?” Aveline sat up and calmly recounted the events of the previous nigl Lucas glanced at his phone and said, “So you’re saying I called yo by mistake?” “That’s right.” But Lucas handed her his phone. “I called Desmond’s number.” Aveline frowned and looked at his phone screen, where Desmond‘ name was at the top of the call log. “How is that possible?” Aveline’s eyes widened slightly, reaching out to grab his phone for a closer look. But Lucas pulled it back. “So, why are you here?” His eyes glanced at the bed. Aveline felt a lump in her chest, unable to swallow it or spit it out. It was suffocating! “So, you think I came here in the middle of the night because I missed you so much?” Lucas‘ handsome face actually showed a bit of contemplation. After a moment, he nodded. “It’s not entirely out of the question.” “Haha, you are truly self–absorbed.” Aveline laughed coldly without holding back. She grabbed her phone, intending to show him her call history, only to find it completely empty! “Did you mess with my phone?” She looked at him immediately, disbelief in her eyes. “No,” Lucas denied directly. “Aveline, there’s nothing wrong with admitting it. We’re still married. It’s normal for you to come to me if you have needs,” Haha! He definitely deleted the call history! Absolutely! Aveline gripped her phone, her face expressionless. “Fine, since you care so much, I won’t come to you next time if I have needs.” After saying this, Aveline got out of bed to leave. Lucas’s expression darkened. He grabbed her wrist, pinning her beneath him. “Then who are you going to?” Aveline struggled but couldn’t break free, so she lay still and looked at him mockingly. “We’re getting divorced. Whoever I go to has nothing to do with you, ex–husband.” The nonchalance in Lucas‘ eyes gradually disappeared. Seeing her provocative gaze, a surge of anger ignited in his chest. She was planning to go to another man. That couldn’t happen. Lucas suddenly leaned down and kissed her, the kiss fierce and demanding. Aveline didn’t resist. She looked at him calmly, letting him kiss her as he pleased.
Chapter 50 Aveline was stunned! What was going on with him? Was he not fully conscious? She began to struggle violently, but the disparity in strength between them became evident. Her struggles only seemed to provoke him further. He grabbed both of her wrists with one hand and pinned them above her head. His scorching breath trailed down from her lips, sending a chill across her chest, quickly followed by heat and wetness. Aveline’s eyes widened. “Lucas, what are you doing?” Wasn’t he supposed to be sick? Yet, he seemed so full of energy. Or did he mistake her for another woman? Sophia? The thought pierced her heart, and she fiercely kneed him. All of Lucas’s movements stopped, his heavy body collapsing on top of her. “Get up!” Aveline twisted uncomfortably beneath him. In response, Lucas bit down angrily on her collarbone. “Aveline, do you want to live as a widow?“! So, he knew who she was? But… “Are you mistaken? We’re about to get divorced. How could I be a widow?” Aveline’s breathing was erratic. “Get up!” she repeated. Her kneeing him hadn’t been forceful, just an attempt to snap him out of it. +15 BONUS Lucas didn’t move, still looming over her heavily. “Why are you here?” After a long pause, his husky, low voice reached her ears. Aveline replied, “You should ask yourself why you called me instead of Mr. Blake.” The silence grew heavier. Feeling uncomfortable with her hands restrained, Aveline shifted. ” Let go of me.” “Let you go, so you can run away?” he suddenly said, leaving her bewildered. “Lucas, are you awake or confused?” Aveline asked, puzzled. Wasn’t he supposed to be divorcing her? Wasn’t he supposed to be with Sophia? Why was he saying such ambiguous things? Did he even know what he was saying? Lucas lifted his head, and Aveline saw it clearly this time. His eyes were still clouded, lacking any clarity. He wasn’t fully conscious. “What’s wrong with you?” Aveline’s brows knitted in concern. “I feel terrible,” he said suddenly, his voice deeper. Then, he slowly leaned closer, as if testing the waters, and kissed the corner of her mouth. “Help me?” he murmured. Aveline was startled, her heart racing. As she was caught off guard, he kissed the corner of her mouth again. “Hmm?” He kept kissing her, repeatedly asking, insisting on an answer. +15 BONUS Aveline should have refused. She should have steeled herself and walked away. But…. They weren’t divorced yet. Doing what married couples do wasn’t against the law. Aveline’s long eyelashes trembled as he leaned in to kiss her again. She slightly turned her head, offering her tender lips to him. Taking this as a response, this time Lucas didn’t pull away. Instead, he deepened the kiss. The air grew hotter, and the room’s temperature rose. Aveline closed her eyes, thinking this was probably the last time she would indulge with him. She decided to let herself go completely, at least for tonight, ha was hers. The next day. Aveline opened her eyes at dawn. Memories of the previous night flooded her mind, and she pressed her lips into a thin line. Glancing at the still–sleeping Lucas, she quietly lifted the blanket and got out of bed, intending to leave. But in the next second, an arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her back. COMMENTS
Chapter 49 “Bring me some medicine, something’s wrong with me.” With that, the call abruptly ended. Aveline stared at her phone, puzzled by the sudden disconnection, her brows furrowing. Did he really dial the wrong number? Didn’t he hear her speak? Aveline pressed her lips together and called Desmond. “Hello, Miss Young.” The call connected quickly, and she could hear a faint background noise on his end. “Mr. Blake, Mr. Tudor called me by mistake just now. He asked for you to bring him some medicine. Can you go to him?” “I’m afraid that’s not possible,” Desmond replied directly. “I’m on a business trip and already at the airport. Miss Young, could you deliver the medicine for me? I can tell you the name of the medication; you can get it from any pharmacy.” Aveline’s brows knit tighter. “You’re on a business trip?” “Yes,” Desmond confirmed, and she could faintly hear airport announcements in the background. “Miss Young, I’ll send you the name of the medicine. Mr. Tudor’s condition is quite distressing when it flares up. Please help me deliver it. Thanks.” With that, he hung up. “Hello?” Aveline was stunned, standing up instinctively. VÍS BONUS Soon, a message with the medicine’s name came through. Feeling perplexed, she couldn’t shake the strange feeling inside her. She stared at the medicine name for a while before finally turning around, putting on her coat, and heading out. Oh well. He had given her money and a house so quickly; she couldn’t just leave him in trouble. Arriving at the Tudor residence, Aveline’s phone vibrated just as she reached the door. It was a message from Desmond with the entry code. It seemed almost as if he knew she would arrive at this moment, sending the code just in time. The strange feeling in her heart intensified. But since she was already there, Aveline decided not to overthink it. She entered the code and walked into the large villa’s courtyard. The surroundings were quiet, and the lights cast long shadows. Entering the villa, she found it completely empty. Previously, when she had been here, there were many servants and housekeepers around. Did they all go off duty at night? “Lucas?” She called his name from the living room, but only a faint echo responded. After waiting for a moment, she carried the bag upstairs. She remembered where his master bedroom was. The door was slightly ajar, with dim light spilling out. Pushing the door open, she saw him lying on the bed. He was shirtless, with the blanket only covering him from the waist down. Sweat covered his body, and his brows were tightly furrowed. as if he was enduring immense pain. Aveline was startled. What was wrong with him? He had never had this problem before. She walked over and gently shook him. “Lucas?” The man didn’t react, his brows still furrowed, and his breathing heavy. Aveline opened the medicine and checked the instructions, then. mixed a cup of the solution. She pinched Lucas’s nose to make him breathe through his mouth. Struggling for air, he suddenly opened his eyes. Those eyes were clouded, looking at her without recognition. Aveline was startled. “You’re awake? Take this medicine first, and then you can go back to sleep.” Lucas’s dark gaze bore into her, making her feel uneasy, like prey under a predator’s watchful eye. She offered him the cup. “Drink the medicine?” But in the next moment, he grabbed the cup and threw it across the room. It landed on the carpet without a sound. Grabbing her wrist, he pulled her onto the bed, his burning body pressing down on her, and his scorching breath claimed her lips. BIG SALE: 3500 bonus free fou you
Chapter 48 He gave her what she wanted; she should be happy. But just now, her expression didn’t seem pleased. Why? Lucas grew more irritated the more he thought about it. Just then, his phone rang. It was Desmond. “Mr. Tudor, Mr. Hang has arrived.” “Okay, I’ll be back right away.” Lucas replied coldly, then hung up. He cast a long look in the direction of Aveline’s house before turning the car around and leaving. In the evening, when Selena arrived, Aveline had already prepared four dishes, with two more and a soup still cooking. las “Ave, there’s so much food!” Selena exclaimed excitedly, hugging her and rubbing against her. Aveline said, “It’s alright. Go wait outside; it’ll be ready soon.” Selena replied, “Okay, I brought some alcohol.” Aveline sighed, “I can’t drink it; I took cold medicine.” Selena was surprised. “You’re sick? But you look fine.” Aveline answered, “You’ll see why I look fine in a bit.” Selena went outside, and soon after, Aveline brought out two plates of food. The soup was also ready. After washing her hands, she handed a file folder to Selena. “Here, take a look at this.” “What’s this?” Selena opened it, took out the contents, and her eyes widened in disbelief. “This… Ave, did you just hit a jackpot?” Aveline replied, “Sort of. After the divorce, I became a wealthy +15 BONUS woman. Can you blame me for looking good?” Upon hearing this, Selena set the items down and cupped Aveline’s face in her hands. “Is that really how it is? You must be so sad.” Aveline was taken aback, staring at Selena for a moment before bursting into laughter. “What’s the use of being sad? Can love put food on the table? Money is more reliable. I’m planning to pick a good day to move and then quit my job. Do you have any plans coming up? If not, let’s go on a world tour.” Aveline laid out her plans. Selena couldn’t laugh. Knowing Aveline well, she understood that her optimism was just on the surface. Aveline had once been so fond of Lucas. Now, with the divorce settlement in hand, their marriage was truly over. All that was left was the divorce certificate, severing their ties completely. Aveline sighed. “I’m fine, so why are you looking like that? I’m sharing my joy with you. Didn’t you always encourage me to dump the jerk and embrace the future? That’s what I’m doing now.” Selena said, “But you must be hurting, Ave. If you’re sad, just cry it out. It’s okay, I promise I won’t record or take pictures.” Aveline laughed. “Alright, let’s eat before the food gets cold.” “Okay, let’s eat!” Selena nodded, opening the bottle of alcohol. “You can’t drink, so just watch me. Cheers!” She clinked her glass against Aveline’s glass and took a big gulp. Aveline was speechless. If she’d known Selena would react this way, she wouldn’t have told her. After the meal, Aveline was fine, but Selena drank until she passed out. Aveline made some ginger tea for her and helped her to the guest room to rest. Coming out of the room, ready to wash up and go to bed, her phone rang. She picked it up and saw that it was Lucas calling. It was already 10 PM. Why was he calling her? “Hello?” She answered, her tone indifferent. “Desmond.” The man’s hoarse voice came through the phone, cold to the extreme. Aveline was taken aback. Did he dial the wrong number? “This is Aveline.” There was a brief silence before she spoke. www But all she heard was his heavy breathing. After a moment, his voice came through again. COMMENTS
Chapter 47 “You can take a day off and come back to work tomorrow.” Ha! Aveline let out a bitter laugh, her eyes devoid of any emotion. Last night, she had gathered all her courage to say those things. She wanted a response, an explanation from him. Even a perfunctory answer would have sufficed. But his attention didn’t seem to be on her words. When did he stop caring about her? It made her feel that asking him that question last night was incredibly foolish. A self–inflicted humiliation. Aveline composed herself, completed the discharge procedures, and went home. There, she saw the file folder on the cabinet. Opening it, she found the property deed, a check, and a key inside. Maple Garden. A prime location in Cloudflare City, with top–tier greenery, 25 floors, and 500 square meters. Wow, it was even larger than expected. Did he think this would make her grateful? Aveline’s eyes remained emotionless as she took out the check. The amount of six million dollars was clearly printed on it, along with Lucas‘ strong signature at the bottom. Aveline held the check, lost in thought for a long time. She had grown up in an orphanage, but it closed down when she was 1/4 415 BONUS in high school. She could have a cute guy on one arm and a young hottie on the other. She could… Could she really? She slowly sat on the sofa. The two–bedroom apartment was small, and even a little extra stuff would make it feel crowded. When he came along, she made room for his things. She hadn’t noticed before, but now, without his things, the apartment felt soulless. Everywhere she looked was empty. Sadness took root in her heart, growing deeper with every pang of pain. How pathetic. How could she still long for such a lousy man? Aveline got up and went to the bathroom, washed her face, and then called Selena. “Ave, what happened last night? Was that jerk with you?” Selena asked as soon as she answered. Aveline responded, “Yes, he was. I’m free today. Come over, and I’ll cook for you.” Selena replied, “Alright, I’ll be there. Wait for me.” After hanging up, Aveline went out to buy groceries. She bought all of Selena’s favorite foods. As she crossed the street, she caught a glimpse of a familiar car out of the corner of her eye. When she turned to look, the car was already gone. “Watch the road while crossing, miss.” Someone reminded her, and she quickly looked back, hurrying across the crosswalk. “Thank you.” She thanked the passerby and then carried her groceries back home. At the corner. A silver–gray Maybach stopped, its windshield adorned with dappled patterns from the shadows of trees. Inside, Lucas sat, frustration evident as he tugged at his tie while gripping the steering wheel with one hand. … Read More “Divorced 47” »
Chapter 46 Lucas sat behind her, watching her obediently drink water. A gentle look flashed in his eyes, but it disappeared quickly. After drinking the water, Aveline didn’t lie down again. She leaned against the headboard and checked her phone. Many people had sent her messages, mostly colleagues asking about her condition and a few from Selena. She called Selena. “Ave, did everything work out?” Selena answered quickly, her sweet voice coming through. Aveline replied, “Yes, it did. You were a big help. Have you decided what you want to eat?” Selena responded, “In that case, I’ll make my request.” Aveline said, “No problem.” Selena chuckled. “I haven’t had your cooking in a long time. Can you make me something? I’ll eat whatever you cook.” “Sure,” Aveline agreed. Selena had helped her so much; she deserved anything she wanted. Selena continued, “Hey, your voice sounds a bit off. Are you okay?” Aveline replied, “I caught a cold, and I-” Before she could finish, someone snatched her phone away, ending. the call abruptly. Lucas put the phone in his pocket. “Lucas, what are you doing?” Aveline glared at him. “You need to rest now,” Lucas said firmly. Aveline retorted, “But at least let me finish my sentence! Am I about. +15 BONUS to die or something? Can’t I even finish a sentence?” Lucas looked at her coldly. “If you want to die right now, I can make that happen.” Aveline was speechless. She cursed him a hundred times in her head but didn’t dare say a word out loud. How infuriating! He was so overbearing! Where was that gentle puppy from before? Give him back to her! Fuming, Aveline turned her head away and ignored him. Lucas stared at her profile, his eyes dark and brooding. “You did well this time. Securing the partnership with Brighton means the department head position is yours.” His deep voice echoed in the room, met with only silence. “Say something!” Aveline retorted, “Are you crazy? You’re the one who told me to rest, and now you want me to talk.” Lucas frowned, looking at her pale face, and said nothing. He just closed his eyes. Aveline gritted her teeth and eventually gave up. After a long while, her voice broke the silence in the room. “Lucas, why didn’t you come to help me last night?” Lucas‘ breath hitched, seemingly not expecting her to ask so directly. Aveline continued, “Didn’t expect me to ask, did you? But why shouldn’t I? You’re my husband, the person I’ve always relied on, the one I… once loved the most. In that situation, you should have 2/3 stepped up to help me.” As she spoke, a faint, bitter smile appeared on her face. “But you acted like an outsider, watching my misery.” Lucas‘ eyes were fixed on her. “What do you mean by ‘once loved. the most? Do you not love me anymore? How can you be so fickle?” Aveline looked him straight in the eye. “Why don’t you ask yourself why it’s ‘once‘?” Lucas’s lips pressed into a tight line, and the atmosphere around him became even more intense, making the room feel several degrees colder. Aveline, exhausted, said, “Stop tormenting this patient.” He paused, his gaze unreadable, but a fire seemed to burn within his chest, leaving him deeply unsettled. Did she really prefer the version of him who lost his memory? The room finally fell into a prolonged silence. Aveline drifted back to sleep, and when she woke up, the IV drip was finished. Daylight streamed through the window, and she saw her phone on the bedside table. When she opened it, she saw a message from Lucas on WhatsApp.
