Chapter 0167
“Simple?”
Amelia had expected some sophisticated or underhanded tactic from Melissa, perhaps even something as low as stealing. But the reality…
Late into the night, Amelia crouched at the stairway’s corner, surreptitiously watching the hitwoman stride confidently towards. Lucas’s room.
Melissa, at least, had the courtesy to knock.
An irritable voice emanated from within. Without a response,
Melissa continued her knocking.
“Who’s there?”
Amelia watched from afar, her heart racing with anticipation for
Melissa’s clever maneuver.
As the door was forcefully yanked open, Melissa stepped aside, concealing herself against the wall.
And in that split second as Lucas’s head peeked out to investigate
the silent knocker…
“Bang-”
With swift and decisive force, Melissa’s punch landed squarely Lucas’s prideful nose.
The sound, the impact… one could easily believe his nose was irreparably crushed.
Witnessing Lucas crumple to the ground, his phone skittering across the floor, Melissa coolly picked it up and handed it to Amelia.
Gazing upwards, Amelia was at a loss for words: “This… is your idea of simple?”
Melissa seemed confused. “Isn’t it?”
“Simple…” Amelia steadied herself against the wall, trembling as she took the phone. “Too simple.”
Not just simple, but brutally so.
Dragging the unconscious Lucas back to his bedroom, Amelia pondered the password.
“There should be a fingerprint lock.
She knelt beside Lucas, trying each of his fingers one by one.
Bingo! It unlocked.
As Amelia scoured through his messages, she kept one eye on Lucas, just in case he stirred.
“Why watch him?” Melissa asked.
Amelia’s fingers flew across the screen. “If he wakes up, our undercover mission-and my paycheck-are toast.”
Melissa was unfazed. “So what? If he wakes up, knock him out
again.”
Right. With a killer at her side, what was there to fear?
This was Amelia’s first time rifling through someone else’s pho even though she was nervous, she photographed anything that seemed incriminating.
“Ha!”
Amelia exclaimed, scrutinizing the screen. “He really did meet with Shihua and wants to hire her for his airline company!”
It was clear as day; this was a scheme against her beloved sister-in- law and her cherished boss.
Melissa’s expression turned grave. “He’s truly wicked.”
“Isn’t he?” Amelia scowled.
With Amelia’s shocked gaze upon her, Melissa, without a hint of hesitation, delivered another punch to the still-unconscious Lucas’s
nose.
Decisive. Forceful.
As Melissa prepared to strike again, Amelia intervened.
“Lucas is fragile; you might end up killing him. Let’s keep our anger in check-no deadly force!”
Melissa eyed Amelia for a moment before speaking profoundly, “If only the whole world feared the law as much as you do, we’d have world peace.”
Amelia chuckled, continuing her investigation into Lucas’s secrets!
When she felt she had uncovered enough, she wiped the phone clean and made for the door, placing the phone on the ground.
“Move him here.”
Together, they staged a scene of Lucas fainting on his own. No sooner had they returned to their rooms than Lucas came to, w by pain.
“Mom!”
“Mom!!!”
Lucas’s cries pierced the night as Amelia bolted upright in bed. “Oh
no!”
Melissa, waking on the couch, inquired, “What’s wrong?”
“There are surveillance cameras in this house!” Amelia panicked.
“I cut the wires first thing in the morning.”
Amelia paused mid-stride. “When?”
“When you were chatting with your old lady.”
“That’s ‘mother’!” Amelia corrected, exasperated.
“Amelia, aren’t you asleep yet?” her mother’s voice came from
outside. “Your brother hurt his nose. Can you accompany him to the hospital?”
Amelia heaved a sigh, her expression stormy. “Of course!”
Ten minutes later.
Melissa drove as Amelia sprawled in the backseat.
Lucas glanced back. “Why am I in the passenger seat? It’s dangerous.”
Amelia, wrapped in her coat and feigning sleep, had left no room for
him.
“Take it or leave it. Who do you think you are, my chauffeur?”
Despite his indignation, Lucas buckled up for the sake of hi
Before his seatbelt clicked, Melissa floored the gas pedal, send Lucas lurching forward, his nose screaming in agony.
Both women silently thought, ‘Serves you right!’ That’s for playing the heartbreaker!
“You can’t drive?!”
Melissa slammed the brakes and offered, “Your turn.”
Lucas glowered, “You!”
“Appreciate the service instead of being a…” Melissa hesitated, searching for the word.
Amelia lazily prompted from the backseat, “A jerk.”
The epiphany hit Melissa. “Yeah, don’t be a jerk.”
Lucas scoffed, “The term is ‘nitpicking,’ idiot.”
Unperturbed, Melissa retorted, “So you admit you’re being a jerk?”
Fuming, Lucas’s eyes burned with rage.
Soon, they reached the emergency department.
But unexpectedly, as they moved to enter, Lucas was suddenly yanked backward.
“Slap-”
The slap caught everyone off guard.
Amelia gaped as Sophia burst onto the scene, furiously berating
Lucas.
“Dodging me? Ignoring my calls? Found a new flame, have you Sophia glared menacingly at Melissa.
Melissa’s expression turned icy, “???”
