Chapter 147
Upon seeing the situation, she scrambled up. However, she was overly hasty and slipped yet again. Brendan helped her up when he saw her struggling.
As he passed Naomi, he glared icily.
Naomi smirked at his icy glare.
After helping Chloe to stand, she hastily explained, “Brendan, this has nothing to do with Naomi. It’s my problem. I wasn’t standing properly.”
It would’ve been fine if she hadn’t tried to explain. Now, she’d made a clearer insinuation that Naomi had pushed her.
Naomi walked over slowly. She grabbed Chloe’s face. Her pitiful expression would’ve inspired pity within her if she was a man.
Brendan hadn’t lifted his hand before Naomi let go of her face.
“Brendan, hide her well. You better keep her in your line of sight 24/7. If not, who knows what might happen to her anytime now.”
Brendan’s heart sank. Finally, he looked at her and said, “Naomi, you haven’t changed your ways.”
Naomi laughed, “I can’t change. If you can tolerate it, then fine. If you can’t, then go fuck yourself.”
Naomi turned around and left after she finished speaking.
On the other hand, Chloe continued to explain, “Brendan, Naomi’s just jesting with you. Don’t take it seriously.
“She didn’t insult me. I just thought that she was unhappy over this necklace, so I sought her out to make an explanation.”
Chloe’s manipulation tactics had reached a god–like level.
As Naomi passed Chloe, she greeted her softly, “Mrs. Ludwig.”
There was pity in Chloe’s eyes. Naomi could see it.
Naomi smiled internally. You could never wake someone who was pretending to be asleep.
As she left the washroom, Naomi/saw that Maximus had arrived. He was looking over in their direction. She seemed to spot pity in his eyes as well.
Maximus was surrounded by the high–level officers of Ashburgh. Naomi would never greet him of her own
volition.
Of course, it was only natural that she wasn’t going over now. She gave him a smile in response to his glance.
Chapter 147
After Naomi had walked away, Jason said, “Brendan, Naomi might not have done it on purpose.”
Chloe supported his statement by adding, “Brendan, Naomi didn’t do so intentionally.”
Brendan didn’t say anything. He merely reminisced about what had happened three years ago and thought of Sophia.
2/2
After dinner at night, Naomi went for a solo stroll on the beach. She thought of Charles‘ case for a moment. Then, she recalled her love–hate relationship with Brendan.
She was under the impression that since they had known each other for so long, they could put in some effort to prevent the recollection of their unhappy past. Then perhaps they could ride it out.
Now, it seemed like it was all imagination on her front.
“Naomi.”
As Naomi reflected on her thoughts, a voice called her from behind.
Naomi turned around. Seeing Maximus, she greeted him with a slight smile, “You’re here for the meeting
as well.”
Maximus got closer. “I’m new on the job, so I need to network with various departments and industries.”
Naomi smiled and continued walking.
Maximus walked beside her as they chatted leisurely.
Tonight, the moon shone brightly, accompanied by a gentle sea breeze. Maximus turned to look at her.” Naomi, I realized that you’re trying to avoid me.”
Naomi responded, “I’m not avoiding you. I’m just keeping a respectable distance.”
After she finished speaking, Naomi herself felt rather awkward. She smiled and said, “Brendan’s outside having the time of his life. My efforts to keep a respectable distance seem rather ironic.”
After Naomi finished speaking, Maximus invited her to sit when they passed a few beach chairs. Naomi tightened her shawl and sat down beside him..
